Nintendo and MLB

From the latest IGNCube mailbag:

Strike Three?

Considering that MVP 2004 was the only baseball offering for Cube owners last year and Take-Two bought the MLB license, does this mean that there will be no baseball games offered on Cube in the future(after MVP 2005)? Or do you think Take-Two will actually release a World Series incarnation on Cube if there is no competition?

Matt responds: Hmm. Stay tuned.

And the hidden text: Nintendo may be swinging for the fence in the next 24 hours. NPCB.

WHAT?

Hmmm, how much would it cost Nintendo to buy exclusive first party rights to for the next 7 years to baseball player names? They could probably get Take Two to put their game on the Cube in return for removing potential competition on ps2 and xbox.

The man says "Hmm. Stay tuned." and now we have a thread about it?

I can't wait to see the mass hysteria when he says "POSSIBLY YES POSSIBLY NO."

Y'think Ichiro would be a hidden character in Super Mario Baseball?

That would probably make the game even more popular in Japan.

Considering Nintendo's ties to the Seattle Mariners I am really suprised they have never made a Ichrio branded baseball game.

Didn't Take Two work with Nintendo in the past, like during the N64 era?

Might have my N64 "Dream Team" members mixed up though.

I think it was Sucker Punch, and they're a part of Take Two.

Swimming

This might sound kind of strange, but. Will link be able to swim and dive under water? I know this is weird, but it was a very fun part of the Zelda games on the N64.

Matt responds: Not sure yet because neither have been demonstrated in the new Legend of Zelda. However, in the extra two-minute trailer of the game that Nintendo previewed to us at E3, there were definitely scenes with water. In one, Link rode his horse through a shimmering, swaying river, which looked pretty cool. Couple that with the fact that Nintendo has always with the Zelda franchise provided gamers with a strong variety of different play options and I expect some water-based action for sure. It could, however, end up being like Wind Waker, enabling Link to swim, but not actually dive and explore under water. I think we'll know for sure sooner than you think.

This phrase is always used but it seems like sooner = forever.

Okay here is how it all went down way back then. Once upon a time there was a development team by the name of DMA. They created a little game called the Lemings. Way back in the N64 days Nintendo announced DMA as a part of their so called "Dream Team" of super developers to create games for the N64. DMA created Space Station Silicon Valley and Body Harvest for N64. They also created the top down driving/crime game called Grand Theft Auto for PC's and PSX. Later on during this generation of hardware they were bought out by Take Two when they created GTA 3 for PS2. They are now under the Rockstar brand name.

Now, about this baseball thing, it seems very interesting. I hope it works out for Nintendo so they can get a decent MLB game on the GCN and Revolution.

WOW big NEWS!! Oh wait it is Matt....never mind...

You guys needs to get off this Matt C. fetish. He sometimes says interesting information, but come on! The main should say anything and you guys would make a thread about it.

Matt responds: Hmm... PLEASE STAY HERE AND PAY ATTENTION TO ME I DID NOT GET LOVE AS A CHILD WHICH IS WHY I SLEEP WITH AN NES CONTROLLER IN MY BOXERS AT NIGHT GOD IT SUCKS TO BE ME
That sounds about right.

Anyone else ever think that maybe Matt makes these kinds of comments so threads like this are made so he can feel special? :D

The provocative part is the "in the next 24 hours" part. The big question is how much rabid speculation can Nintendo prompt before they disappoint us tomorrow? :D

So Matt is playing the classic 'INSIDER' card where he hints at various things in the mailbag and makes his readers go ape trying to guess what it is.

Since no time table is set, the 'hints' are quietly forgotten and or turns out to be totally benign and unimportant and the fanboys and haters just spent a couple of weeks to a month debating over a moot point.

I wish these editors would stop fudging around with their readers and tell them straight what to expect.

You mean DMA Design who made Body Harvest and GTA. Based in Scotland and called Rockstar now, since they were bought by Take TWo they stopped supporting Nintendo.

Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball...

Seems the guy wasn't blowing smoke up people's asses for once. Although really, the take-two deal was stupid all things considered.

the licening problem should not be as big as it is ..

with the consoles going online next gen, let there be an easy way to install mods for the games you make, and viola ... real names and real teams instead of fake ones ...
