Nintendo Downloads - May 2015

I can't decide what to get on my 2DS. I have about 10 bucks in the account right now. Thinking maybe Legend of Dark Witch and Mega Man 5 gameboy. I got Bloo Kid 2 this month, which is the only new thing I was interested in. It was pretty good although it gets really hard in some of the special levels. I was thinking about getting Donkey Kong Land or maybe Fantasy Zone one or two.

I mostly just play eshop games, much more than retail. It's just so cool to have digital downloads on my system.

Legend of Dark Witch has a demo you can try. It's basically Mega Man with a Gradius-style power-up system. I recall it's been on sale for about 50% or 60% off once.

I think the GB Mega Man games have gone on sale as well.

Yeah, I've played the demo. I liked it. The game also has an OT thread on GAF so that was cool, but I just can't decide if I really want it. I guess it is only 3.99.

I definitely try to pick up things when they're on sale.

I wouldn't mind the Super Scope games. Though I'm still happy with the fact I found one still in the box (& hilariously, its $50 price sticker) with its manual a few years ago at a flea market. Haven't tried it out since I know it doesn't work as well with flat screen HD TVs.

Mole Patrol on the Super Scope 6 cartridge is one of the most under-rated games ever.

Heck, the whole Super Scope 6 cartridge itself is terribly underrated.
Many of the games on it are really extremely great, but so few people have ever actually played them.

I just hated that whenever I'd look around, I could only find the Super Scope 6 game & not the actual accessory.

Actually, now that I think about it, what're the chances we could see games that use the SNES Mouse? I wouldn't mind trying Mario & Wario, which was JP-exclusive.

Oh man, now I can't help but imagine Mario Paint coming out around the same time as Mario Maker.

Have you played Pushmo or DK '94? Both amazing.

So, for those in Canada: Since $0.81 USD is just about $1 CA Dollar currently and a lot of eShop games are generally more pricey then their US counterpart (cause of exchange rates). Do you consider it fair? What is a good price point?

I currently have my game set at $1.99 = $1.99 even. But cause of exchange rate, I only earn $1.63 USD for every 1 Canadian game sale. Cause of that and worsening Mexican Peso exchanges, I earned about 27% less then I thought I was going to (which was a kinda big surprise.. lol)

I mostly consider this a hobby, since I have a full time job (which is kinda why I release and focus on 1 game). So when I redo my current prices after my game's patch/Euro launch, I will very much likely keep them even (though fix Pesos price). I am just curious on what others think is fair and not fair.

So the Canadian dollar is creeping up to about 82 cents right now after falling really hard for most of 2015. In 2014 when the dollar was near par with the greenback we were getting pretty well gouged and I certainly didn't like that. I know I speak for a lot of Canadian gamers in saying while we understand a weaker dollar means worse prices, what we're concerned about is the dollar getting back near par and having to fight to get good game prices again. (Most of us are the types who grew up unable to afford Final Fantasy III on SNES for $100, for example. The '90s were a tough time for gamers in the Great White North.)

Without going into the politics of the Canadian economy and its effects on currency, a lot of us think the dollar will continue to climb but many economists think with the price of oil it will at least stay at 80 cents, if not fall further. I love that Virtual Console games are still at par and hope that never changes, but I really don't expect that from indies -- I'd buy your game at $2.25 just as I'd buy it at $2. What I think is unfair is when the prices are completely out of whack with the exchange rate, or when they're put to really weird numbers like $9.69 instead of $9.50 or $10.

To make that long story short: at 90 cents and up, I'd like to see it priced the same because really who cares. At 80 cents I just want the numbers to be normal and fair.

I'm following Affordable Space adventures waiting for it to go on sale...I know, it's worth the 20€ they are asking for, but I have few spare time to play and I have to manage the investments...the same for the new Sword & Soldier: I miss the "launch discount", honestly.
Btw, I've seen that Nihilumbra is on sale this week on the EU eshop, is that right? any feedback for that game?

Edit:
Also Stealth inc 2 is on sale? 7€...what about it?

Same, except it's not lack of time, but tons of games to play first.

I'll get Stealth Inc. 2 and The Swapper thanks to promotions, though.

the Swapper is GREAT, really.
I'm probably gonna get Stealth inc 2 thanks to the promo, and probably Nihilumbra with the discounted launch price. Affordable is on the list: at the very least, it will be mine on late July, when I'll be alone at home (working during the day), with the family in vacation ;p

Thanks for the feedback, I really hesitated to buy that one, I really don't know much about it other that it seems to be very special and very good.

Stealth Inc. 2 is by the fellows who did Hydroventure/Fluidity, so I trust it'll be good.

I asked before, but I'm asking a new variant of the question...

Is it worth playing MM Battle Network 1 and 2 before/after BN3? Are the games different enough to merit various playthroughs?

Also, I am SO fucking hyped for PADZ tonight at midnight. :3

Oh cool, Swapnote theme made it over.

Kind of wish there was more free themes. I've long stopped using the Sonic Boom one mainly because of the music & of course EU & Japan get themes that you can get on Club Nintendo but not the US.

Oh right, forgot I downloaded that.

...........*continues using Famicom Memories theme from Ultimate NES Remix kindly donated by user*

Actually, now that I think about it, I would love to see stuff like "Super Famicom Memories" or "Game Boy Memories". Sega seems to be trying to figure out if they can release their hardware themes (Saturn, Dreamcast, Game Gear, etc.) in the US with licensing & such, which I would gladly buy if it happens & then have them on Favorites to rotate around.

Are there any Castlevania fans here?

I have little over 8€ funds on the eshop and I'm in the mood to get into the series. I only played two of the DS games.

So which one of the GBA- or SNES-games available can you recommend the most.

If you're choosing from only GBA or SNES, go with Super Castlevania IV for SNES
Otherwise, go with Castlevania 1 for NES.

Well, there's two types of Castlevania.
For the classic titles you should try Castlevania IV
For the metroidvania titles I think Aria of Sorrow is the best one on Nintendo platforms. It's my second favourite Castlevania after SOTN.

Both should be available

Nihilumbra isn't on sale as it just came out last week. But it's running a launch discount.

ASA won't go on sale for quite a while, they've said as much (similar to Axiom Verge).

Prob won't be till July/August if passes.

What releases on those dates?

Umm... Splatoon and Yoshi? :D

Heads up: there's an off-tv patch for 1001 Spikes on Wii U but it adds several new bugs including a bug that makes it impossible to walk to the right using the d-pad, so, uh, don't update.

That's a pretty big bug to just miss, haha. Oh dear.
