What do you guys think is a better name for a solitaire game for Wii U: "Solitaire", "Solitaire U", or "Solitaire U!"?

I know the whole "U" thing is overdone to death, but figure might get it more attention/recognition as a Wii U game. Anyways, thoughts?

i read on neogaf sequels sell better than new ip's.
so maybe you should name your game * then: "Solitaire U 2: Solitaire Harder"

the real sequel could than be named: "Solitaire 3: With a Vengeance"
because i also heard dramatic sounding titles sell better.

*Disclaimer: I may or may have not heard all these things. Believe me, i'm not an expert.

Dream Course is fun, but kinda hard. It's Golf with Kirby powers basically, with Kirby as the ball. Has two player as well. Though I personally save my club nintendo coins for exclusives like that Luigi diorama, rather have that than save $8 here and there.

Heh, thanks. It actually moves a little, too.

0YDf4bZ.gif

(It normally runs at 854 x 480. Building this for the GamePad off-TV play first and foremost. ;) )

I actually like it better stationary.
It's kind of distracting moving.

But then, my eyes are terrible >.>

Haha. Oh dear. Noted.

It may just be me. I have some significant eye issues as a result of my stroke last year. In particular issues with saccadic movement (the left to right/down and back to left/etc. process you do while reading). So, the dots moving kind of throws my eyes off >.> But, that probably wouldn't be as big an issue to most people.

Curious trivia is the game started life not as a Kirby game. Special Tee Shot was this non-Kirby version (apparently it is even harder though of course was relegated to the Satellaview so almost lost to history...well apparently someone has a US prototype). Never let anyone say Epic Yarn was the first time Kirby Stole the spotlight. I'm going to ignore Avalanche/Ghost Trap with its weird talking Kirby for the purpose of that statement.

I'll add a "terrisus mode" to the options. Just a tickbox, sets the scrolling to 0. :)

You could also do the reverse and have the option pictures be all dynamic and move/etc. Kinda like how I do that with the maps screen with the different maps in my game.

Hah, if I could get games to start adding a "terrisus mode" to the options, to adjust things that I like, there are all sorts of awesome things I would do with it >.>

I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

This kind of raised an eyebrow for me just for the fact that the 3DS version of NES DK was only available as CN promo for buying a selection of digital downloads last year for a select number of retail titles (Sticker Star, Layton, Style Academy and some others), so maybe it's a mistake in the listing?

You definitely get a code for the GB version of Donkey Kong. I already redeemed 150 coins for mine : )

Donkey Kong '94 is so great. Anyone who doesn't own it already needs to spend some coins and grab it!

No, nothing wrong here. The promo was the exclusive port of the arcade version (tho I think it still has NES sounds) which includes the missing pie level, where the NES version released publically, doesn't include the pie level and is of the real DK game they made on the NES.

Haha, I remember buyinng Art Academy just to get the "arcade" version since I knew it wouldn't ge sold any other way. When Nintendo says something is limited, for better or worse they mean it.

DK94 is an essential part of anyone's collection. One of the finest games ever made, and as a bonus it's the source of all of Mario's modern acrobatics.

Yes, DK '94 for GB is a great game and a must own, nobody is saying otherwise.

Yep, I actually bought that DK code from a member here, it's a great port, very cool to have the missing pie level. The only other way to get it was as a pre-installed bonus VC game that was included on the EU version of the Red Mario 25th edition Wii back in 2010.

I had zero interest in these but Donkey Kong '94 might get some of my giant hoard of coins, actually.

Oh shit, that's DK '94!? Hot damn, I'm grabbing that. I remember very fond memories of that on my old school GB. That and Wrecking Crew this month, not too bad.

Totally redeeming Wrecking Crew. For some reason I don't mind playing really early NES games with that ugly U filter.

Change your Wii U's resolution to 1080i instead of 1080p in the settings menu. It greatly reduces the filter on NES games.

Believe it or not, this Thursday the Wii U will become the most consistent Virtual Console service ever.

If you count Sunday, Nov 19 2007 (Wii launch) and Tuesday, Nov 21 (first update) as separate weeks, the Wii VC was updated for 78 consecutive weeks before taking a break on May 12, 2008, which was the launch of WiiWare. It would go on to update another 61 consecutive weeks (though at a reduced rate of one or two games per week) before taking another break July 20 & 27 2009.

Of course, it needs to be mentioned (not really, because somebody is going to post about it regardless) that the total number of games released in that span is not even close, 223 for Wii and 118 for Wii U after Thursday's update by my rough count.

What was interesting to me, though, is that the main culprit for this seems to be the missing systems. I guess that seems obvious, but I didn't think the number of NES and SNES games would be so close: After the first 78 weeks, Wii had 68 NES games vs 62 for Wii U, while Wii had 32 SNES games and the Wii U has 4 more (!) at 36.

I don't mean for this to be Nintendo PR, I just find it interesting and thought maybe another person or two here would as well. The Wii U VC has a number of problems, but I'm at least pleased that they're not taking weeks off like they do with the 3DS.

Also, while scanning Wikipedia for some numbers, I noticed the SNES Street Fighter and Final Fight games were delisted this month. I don't recall hearing anything about this, did I miss something? It sucks if we got no heads up, though it could be because those games are available on the eShop (other Capcom games on both systems are still available though).

Thanks for crunching the numbers on this. It certainly matches with my suspicions.

TG16 games are really the huge outlier here -- if we had 50 or so of those by this point, the gap wouldn't seem so big at all.

Good point, if we had 50 TG16 games and 50 Genesis games, the two VCs would be neck and neck. Of course, that's assuming that had those two consoles been in the mix, Nintendo would've released games at a more frequent pace. It's possible, though it seems Nintendo prefers to stretch out the schedule as much as they can.

I wonder if the lack of Sega systems and other 3rd parties not interested in doing VC is the reason we are now lacking N64 games? I can only assume they are holding those back for some future launch.

Eh, my logic tells me that a lack of 3rd Party interest should have brought about N64 VC sooner (if anything), since I'm pretty sure a good part of that previous Wii VC N64 library was 1st Party. Like, 90%-ish. GBA VC seems to have perked up a few 3rd Party ears though. I wonder if the ''Upgrade Discount'' turned many of them off from re-releasing their stuff? Since, for example, Sega's Genesis efforts came at $8 a pop in the Wii days. If they did Wii U versions, a significant part of the U audience probably owns the Wii version already and would only expect to pay $1.50 to upgrade. That's gotta cut profit margins rather thin.

Still, I'd love to see Genesis again (Sega), as well as TG-16 (Konami, which is already doing so in Japan and are active with GBA here in the States), and Neo Geo. VC should increase titles/systems per generation, not lessen!

It's frustrating to me, since I had virtually no interest in the Wii VC (since it didn't offer me anything that the games I already owned didn't already do for me), while I love the Wii U VC (since off-TV gamepad play is great). I've probably bought 15x as many VC games for Wii U already as I did for the Wii in its entire lifespan. I would definitely buy more if there were more.

Gunvolt final boss is kicking my ass. Really hard to not lose a ton of health before the second form, and it's slow going after that. I enjoy the movement in this game, but the attacks, while novel, aren't really my thing. Even doing things perfectly doesn't feel as satisfying as it does in Mega Man Zero.

I do greatly appreciate that you can always go back and redo levels/bosses and get any items you missed. Though it's a bit annoying that even the basic challenges are locked the first time you beat a stage, I'd have completed almost all the B rank/under 8 minutes challenges on my first run.

Also, half of the craftable items basically require you to complete challenges because of how rare the specific items they require are. I wouldn't have guessed that, and wondered why I wasn't getting any new craftable things.

Good game overall, but not my fav of Inti Creates either.

I bought an insane amount of Wii VC stuff, TG16 games in particular.

To transfer all my Wii VC stuff, if I could, which I can't, I'd probably have to pay over $100 in those stupid transfer fees. As-is I have less than 10 Wii U VC games that weren't transfer (Kirby, Super Metroid and Harvest Moon are all I did) or 30 cent welcome games (and I don't like half of those)

But I own a ton because I bought them during the Wii's lifespan, I wouldn't go back and buy any new ones right now. Probably anyway, I'd really rather they put it on Wii U. Especially since I have a feeling I'll need an extra "transfer fee" for Wii 2U

But they already have the emulators from the Wii versions and a lot of the good N64 stuff was by Nintendo anyway. Paper Mario, SM64, Star Fox, OoT, MM. They'd get plenty of sales with just those I'm sure. They also rolled out GBA without too much third party support, just Capcom and a tiny bit of Konami, which is...basically all they have elsewhere, too, at least in the US.

Haven't a few TG-16 games trickled out for WiiU in Japan (through Konami/Hudson workings)? I could have sworn this was the case...

Edit: I think I quoted the wrong person. I need more sleep...

I more meant that they are holding back N64 for lack of VC in general, not lack of 3rd party N64 games. At least they aren't giving the Wii U the 3DS VC treatment yet.

Is anyone else holding out for GC re-releases on VC/Disc?

I'd hate to pay for that Smash adapter and only use it for Smash.

There is no current plans for N64, and you are holding out for GC VC. :P

I wouldn't get your hopes up, sadly.

Just did a quick count. For Wii U, I have:
NES: 18
SNES: 26
GBA: 7
Total: 51

So, alright, a bit fewer than I thought.

Can't check my Wii games at the moment, but at a guess, probably had in the range of 15-ish VC games for that (Neo Geo, Arcade, and a couple of TurboGrafx 16).

So, fine, more like 3 times as many...
But, if the Wii U had more on it, I would definitely have way more.

The only way I see GC games coming is as windwaker style HD remasters, pretty surprised Nintendo haven't done any more yet just to fill out the release schedule

Yeah, Japan has PC engine, no one else though.

I hope but I'm not sure it's likely. I think I'm going to pass on the smash adapter bundle (also it sold out apparently). I actually don't prefer the GC controller for smash, so it'd only be for PC (potentially, if it's hacked and usable) and for friends to use in smash (most of whom have moved away). I'd love a VC for gamecube though, especially if they put some of the harder to find games on it. Would buy Cubivore digital in an instant...if anyone even still has the rights to that.

I ask because I managed to find Def Jam Vendetta and F-Zero GX super cheap for GC and now I can't play them on the Wii U.

I was hoping for some digital releases for GC classics so I don't have a reason to hold onto the Wii in my closet, but with no plans for re-releases/remasters, I guess I have to.

Nintendo could use the money. Pumping GC content onto the eStore would be a nice cash grab.

Well, there is that rumor of remasters next year.. Not that I believe it, but would be a good idea.

I know about that rumour, I'm inclined to believe it because it'd be so easy to do and makes a lot of sense, then again it would've made sense to have a couple of remasters this year and none came

The wii doesn't take up much space so I just leave it out as a gamecube. Really wish you could turn it on and operate the menu with the GC controller though. Fussing with the Wii's UI and tethering controllers to the wiimote made me hate the wiimote more than any waggle game ever could, it's a tiny little UX nightmare when used outside the context of a motion game.

N64 was announced last year. So there are plans. GC VC on the other hand will never happen on Wii U. Just won't.

Well at least MM HD is coming, hopefully soon.

Honestly, there's not really any reason to hold onto a Wii.
GCN + GBA Player + Component Cables for GCN and all the GB/GBC/GBA games you could want
Wii U for Wii and Wii U games

The big incentive I have for holding onto my Wii has been homebrew for playing DVDs and some custom software/themes. Otherwise, I'd rather have that purple box any day of the week if the games were easier to store.
