Nintendo DS online... soon

Is it Pokemon? That would make the most sense. If you're trying to push the service, you might as well put it in what will become your best selling game(s).

Especially since communication/trading are very strong aspects of said game, anyway.

Pokemon, Mario Kart and Smash Bros are the only titles that fit the description to my mind.

Given that Smash Bros hasn't been announced yet, that's the least likely. I would say Mario Kart, but I seem to recall hearing (from Johnny Nighttrain?) that it wasn't that game. So i guess Pokemon, though I didn't think it was that near to release.

Then again, he might mean Animal Crossing. It's hardly massively killer, but if he was going over the top a bit, it'd be an obvious choice.

I still think Mario Kart's the most obvious answer, but unless I've had some incredibly boring dreams, I'm certain someone I trusted said it wasn't that.

True that. Mama Smurf is probably right with her Animal Crossing guess, then. The producer (or maybe it was the director) of that title has been saying he wants the next version of it online for well over a year now. Probably got his wish.

Didn't Miyamoto hint about it in the interview concerning the DS going online, or was that just a mistranslation?

Yes. He said "you may see a hint of it in Animal Crossing DS."

I have no idea, actually. I can't remember the details.

Edit:...but Amir0x does :)

He discounted Mario Kart because that wasn't coming until fall and he thought the service was coming much sooner than that.

Miyamoto did say that they were looking at making DS online with square's cooperation.

Advance wars DS online
Zelda 4 swords online
FF CC online
Pokemon online

ooohhh boy, AWDS would be sweeeeet

Every 3.45 months, I swear. ;)

Seriously, I'll believe it when I see it. Rumblings of Nintendo going online come around a few times a year, people get excited, and then it turns out to be some fan site (but they have a domain, they MUST be legitimate journalists!) just either having fun, posting an opinion piece that reads as fact, or parroting their "source," NintendoEmploye4332@aol.com.

So, yeah, E3's coming up in about two months, fellas. If Nintendo's going to say anything, it'll probably be there.

Here is the EXACT quote:

Hamamura: Nintendo has said that the Internet is not worthwhile to its business framework, but would rather find out how it can make playing fun. I think the recognition of that is spreading through society in general. However, something more was said: when there’s a use that lends itself naturally to play, then preparations will commence. The former statement seems very strong, and has given Nintendo an image of being against networking. Even at the presentation a few days ago (10/7), Mr. Kawazu of Square-Enix spoke very little about it during his appearance. Can you expand upon this at all?

Miyamoto: The management of the company has lately had talks with all sorts of other companies about whether we should handle the Internet. However, that will probably bear fruit after three or four years.

Hamamura: That long of a time span?

Miyamoto: With the DS, I think it’ll be faster. I think it will take more time to get users and investors to the same level of interest. In shaping the future, we’re moving in a positive direction. I can’t say anything more until it’s formally announced.

Hamamura: I see. For something that interesting, I don’t think Nintendo will be lacking.

Miyamoto: Yeah, because of our cooperation with Square-Enix. [Smiles] I think there’ll be a hint hidden in Animal Crossing.

Just sharing my thoughts, I didn't say it is, but it could be.

True, true. Didn't mean to sound like I was jumping on you or anything. I'd kill for a new Smash Bros game. I think I'd rather have that then Pokemon. (But I'd take either, really. :D )

But the NightTrain's been on a role. So until he's proven wrong, I'm inclined to believe.

Thanks! I wish I would have saved all of these articles or something. I should probably start doing that.

There's never been talk of Nintendo online like this. I can understand people not believing it until an official announcement, but for me, there's just way too much talk in favour of this happening to doubt it anymore.

Oh and I'm a he. Amazingly with this username I've only been hit on once here, I guess I post like a guy.

Nintendo's online announcement needs to come before E3, in fact it needs to come before the 24th. Pokemon DS seems like it would be a great online game, but I have a feeling that it is really far from being released.

Hey, I can't help if I'm the most cynical fuck I know. I think it should be obvious that I'd love to be proven wrong. While I'm kinda ho-hum about console online gaming, I think the prospects of portable online gaming are much more interesting.

does anyone remember that Demasked hype? Is this it now?

Happy fun times. Its not that far of 10th March. Like 8 days? Can't wait to see what Nintendo unveils. That's that.. no point speculating now. It'll hit and there's nothing we can do. Save bitch and bitch some more or react more positively. :)

you're excited because some "big" game news might fall on your birthday?

I'm speechless.

No, because it's my birthday, I'm going to get presents & have a fun day, along with a big announcement concerning the company of which I am a fanboy. The Nintendo announcement is icing on the cake which is my birthday. What's not to be excited about? :P

Cause no matter the announcement it's not going to get you a new gift on your birthday. Actually, it'll probably net you a headache since GAF is bound to argue about it for days.

I have a feeling Iwata won't reveal anything regarding DS-Online, in his GDC keynote speech.

Maybe some Zelda GC, and Revolution insight perhaps?

come to think of it though, we've met before. namco booth. at the press desk thing in back. E3 04.
Oh, OK -- are you the guy, with the hair, and the shirt, and...?

No, just kidding. I think I do remember you, actually. You said you liked my site, right? I was about to have a meeting so I couldn't really talk, so I apologize if I was kinda in a rush or whatever.

If I knew then that you know now what I would've liked to have known you'd know back... err... nevermind
