Nintendo DS Wireless in Freefall. WOW.

On a sunny California day, Lou Myers and three others became the first people ever to play a Super Mario game while plummeting from the sky at terminal velocity.

Yet, notwithstanding the risks, the four sky divers proved that an ad hoc network set up using the wireless functions of a Nintendo DS works perfectly at distances of nearly 400 feet while falling 120 miles an hour.

Instead of cracking a Nintendo DS joke, I will simply say that those four people have far too much time on their hands.

Would have been interesting if they got too caught up in the game and forgot too open parachute. Just another death too blame on video games.

The whole thing was an experiment, and I'm sure they got paid for anyways.

They also played the psp as well ;)

That's wild. More than 400 feet apart huh? Yeah they would've won the hand contest if they had a hand with them that is.

far too much money too. Is this what rich white folk do when they have money to burn?
The whole thing was paid for by Sony. The pics will be used in their E3 presentation to illustrate the current state of DS sales in the U.S.

If I were theme I'd take my DS up there too, not to play mind you. But to throw it to the ground as I fell. Test out it durability and all :P

Being a Nintendo product I wouldn't be suprised if it splits earth in half while remaining in tact ;).

I'd be doing shit like that if I had bags of cash, sure.

Gee I wonder what would happen. :P

(If the thing actually worked afterwards, which it has like a .00000000000000000000000001% chance of doing, well, uh, I'd be speechless)

good thing they didn't take psp's: the battery wouldn't last to the ground

Not only that but those UMDs would make for dangerous weapons if they pop out of the PSP due to the pressure and twisting!! A PSP would probably fall apart before it touches the ground :P.

I'm surprised no one took the obvious joke about combining the DS with skydiving in a last-ditch attempt to add some adrenaline to a lackluster Mario port. I was expecting that as the first or second reply. :\

What difference does being in a freefall make? As long as they keep close enough distances, freefalling doesn't mean shit. Radio waves travel at the speed of light, it's not like your are going to leave them behind in the dust. It doesn't work like that.

This is stupid.
