Nintendo E3 2012 Conference Thread

Probably already talked about, but what would have saved the conference? Personally I missed something about Metroid and Zelda, a teaser would've been enough. And I wanted more wow-factor games like Zombie U from third parties. And better graphics in the first party games too, Pikmin 3 looked nice but the rest felt more like the "free" bonus Wii Play titles than something worth spending money on.
You could put it as better graphics, but personally I wanted an IP (something fresh preferably, as Mario and Zelda and the likes are getting a bit stale to me) that showed AAA/HD commitment from Nintendo. Something that would utilize the new horse power to create an experience that I couldn't have on the Wii. Now it just looked like Wii games with a new gimmick, and I have too many plastic gimmicks for my Wii already.
Focusing on already existing multiplatform games generally seemed like a really bad move too. Especially as I already have them. Now it just looked like xbox games with a new gimmick. Which it were.

A major problem is that Nintendo no longer likes showing games that won't be out soon, probably because of the incredibly long waits for things like Twilight Princess and the numerous delays.

So because things like the new Zelda, a 3D Mario and Retro's game won't be out until 2013/2014, they don't show anything of it, just games certain to be finished by launch time.

So which conference was better, 2011 or 2012 one? For me it was 2011, we got more interesting content and better hope for the console.

Last year we had the great looking Zelda tech demo, water/fish demo, future EA support, a neat concept reel for the controller and a logo of Smash Bros. Future for the machine looked great.

This year we had an upresed Wii game - Pikmin 3, 2d Wii Mario game, a mini game collection, Wii Fit demo, Batman demo, music games and no big 3rd party support.

Future of the console looks to be headed towards Vita, with less 3rd party support.

the lack of EA Sport support is worrying; reminds me of what happened to the dreamcast..
How can madden NFL13 not be announced for Wii U too? it's far more important than an old port of Mass Effect 3

Oh look. It might actually be a good game!

Yeah, once again we must wait for the sweat smelling cloud of internet nerd-rage to go away before we fairly and objectively look at what was presented.
That was what I was trying to say yesterday, E3 is more than just the conferences and often the good news comes of showfloor. Found it especially funny that people kept saying 2006 was a good conference when most of that was Reggie telling the audience to wait for hands on impressions. They showed SpongeBob as a highlight back then for God's sake.

We here to play games. Not to watch them.

EDIT: Isn't it common for share prices to fall after a hardware reveal?

Best news I've heard since the press conference.

They said they "learned" from the 3DS debacle. I think it was clear they haven't. If they thought they did learn, then the higher-ups have absolutely no clue what the general gaming public wants to see any more.

I honestly don't know what anyone wants any more. What a typical GAF poster wants will differentiate from what a casual gamer (mom, nan etc) wants. What a casual gamer wants may differ from what a tablet gamer wants. What a tablet gamer wants will differentiate from what "dude bro" gamers want.....

What I want will be different to all those "types" of gamer.

That quite the generalization you have there and it can be easily disputed with sales figures.

From that article

Platinum's game is a perfect example of a fantastic concept caught in the middle of the typical power race, e-penis contest shit that clogs up the same message boards that laugh at COD's plots because they are aimed at people that need flashy crap happening all the time to keep on hooked.
Or how about how people make fun of Heavy Rain for barely being a game, and then proceed to jizz all over the place when they throw them another interactive movie just because it looks good. But hey, its good ammo for the graphics contest so go Quantic

Go read the first pages of Kamiya's game here. Fucking pathetic.

Its really not as you paint it. Nintendo themselves told everyone they could talk to last E3 about the mistakes they learned from due to the botched 3DS launch. They told us about the importance of third party support and how they realized it wasn't there for the Wii and this time with HD graphics they wish to get more support thane ever before.

They told us this last E3. Then they went silent for a year. No word, reveals, information, nothing. Then all they have to reveal this E3 is an old Batman game port, a Zombie game that while plays well looks like a "polished Wii game"? From their own first party catalog a 2D Mario game and Pikmin in addition to a glorified Wii Sports?

Don't get me wrong those 3 games are going to be amazing and I will own them all but they aren't system sellers IMO. I always viewed Pikmin as 2nd tier in terms of their franchises. But even then there were no new IPs, no new Retro game, no big third party announcements, partnerships, exclusives, or hell even support. They brought EA out last year on stage and this year EA won't even have their top sports lineup on the system? WTF?

We still don't know anything about the launch, not one game looked amazing graphically for a system supposedly more powerful than the current HD twins, and for all the talk about third party support there was bare minimum.

So while the games they showed could be great its easy to see why they are being overlooked. This is how you launch a system? With this kind of a reveal? They showed and told us next to nothing about the system that we didn't already know and then acted like they just wowed everyone out of their socks. They didn't. How can a company that claims they know what people want, close the conference with showing fireworks from NintendoLand?

COD and other shooters might get tons of hate here but we all assumed all those big third party games would be coming over to the WiiU considering some of them even had gimped versions of the Wii. And even if people don't like those games here, they are system movers selling more than any other games out right now. So how can Nintendo as a company fail to even get ports ready for launch? No Madden? No COD, MOF, Battlefield, or a Retro shooter available for launch? This when the core gamers seemingly have a everlasting thirst for shooters? WTF?

Thing is, young people today aren't going nuts for Mario and Zelda, they could probably be just as hyped for a Smart Bob Square Pants game as a new Mario. It's us oldies that played the games when we were young who loves those old Nintendo franchises. We're their targets. Yet, Nintendo continue to make their games more geared toward younger gamers rather than the mature gamers. I bet the awesome tech demo of Zelda shown last year will be changed to a cartoon Zelda before it's release. I don't think they get that many of us older Nintendo gamers would love a darker, more mature, hires Zelda with awesome graphics, and phycsics and all that.
For me, Darksiders has been the best "Zelda" I've played in years.

Do you have any idea how well the NSMB sub-series sells?

Ugh, late, but doable.

3 AM for me. No idea if I'll do it though, even if I could. This Nintendo E3 was a disaster. The whole E3 in general gave me a horrible look into the future. And I don't feel it anymore, even if it at least still might turn out good for the 3DS (And Luigis Mansion already looked phenomenal, but nice handhelds can't redeem the rest imo). Also, the dude presenting the 3DS show already seemed pretty tiresome to listen to at the main conference.

hahaha, no. Give me something like Skyward Sword fully realised with proper consolepower any day over Darksiders.

Then why has New Super Mario Bros. sold over 15 million copies and New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold more than 25 million copies? lol No one going nuts for Mario, huh?

Reminds me of that beastwhatever's thread about Mario needing to "evolve".

Nintendo has been aware that the Twilight Princess style is more appealing to Western audiences for several years. And even if they weren't previously aware of that the sales comparision between Twilight and Skyward would prove that to them. We will get a TP styled, graphical tour-de-force Zelda on the WiiU. I am certain of it, and I will buy a WiiU to play it (if I haven't already at that point).

Just a few simple realistic changes could have taken Nintendo's conference from underwhelming and boring, to "pretty good."

Swap out Batman Armored Edition with Zombi U demo.

Cut Nintendo World presentation by 80%. Just list the games, and show footage for each one.

Have Hideki Kamiya come out on stage, and demo P-100 to end the show off with.

DONE

This plus any ONE of Excite___, F-Zero or Wave Race and I would have been sold.

Okay didn't know they sold that well... :/ Is it split ecually through the different terrirories though? I know they're popular in Japan.

Either way, personally I can't say that I'm hyped about any of the first party games shown so far, and I'm one of those that love Nintendo and their franchises. I checked the hires screens on their press site and from what I can tell they all look like they could be done on Wii or at least the Dolphin emulator. Not Pikmin 3 though, it looks nice.
Luckily there are third party games that looks great and made for older gamers, I'm just not used buying a Nintendo console to play third party games.

No one is going to get a solid answer. If it was slated for Wii U, why not announce it?

All the no comments from the publishers and developers don't help anybody. If it definetly doesn't come to WiiU, why not simply say it. Maybe publishers in fact are in negotiations with Nintendo to get these games on board. No body here knows anything about third party support here, if we only ger "no comment"

"No comment" is very common in the industry so as not to harm business relations. Ubisoft already announced Rayman Origins and Zombi U and have announced Watchdogs for the current twins. There is no reason not to just out and say its coming for the Wii U unless they still have some inexplicable gag order. Its not impossible that it will eventually come out, perhaps they are being quiet so that Rayman and Zombi U aren't overshadowed, but considering the effort put into Zombi U, I don't have high hopes for a graphically impressive 3D title from Ubisoft coming out anytime soon.

I think I'll lay off from new gaming purchases til next year. After watching all the E3 conferences, I feel burnt out from gaming. It's like I'm in a gaming-related depression.

I was excited for the Wii U prior to E3, but now I'm OK to wait a year or so for a price drop and a better library of games. I'll just stick to reducing my backlog this year.

Because it isn't a launch window title. Seems Nintendo is really sticking to this policy.

Nintendo Directs are our only hope.

this, I can't really imagine that Nintendo, a company that is profitable in the business and in special in the last recent years (the 3DS launch disaster aside, but even that turned out succesfull) since over 25 years, starts to change their stragie into such a suicidal thing in regard to 3rd party support as it seems. I mean, there is literally no support besides Ubisoft.

It is plausible, that the WiiU will get ports of many multiplats from this holiday season, but in the first half of 2013 and therefor Nintendo don't want them announced at the moment, to get as much buzz as possible at the launch games. Weren't WiiU verions of BLOPS and Fifa for example confirmed, but not officially announced?

Quote from the Wii U Facebook page.
Amen.
Where's this person getting his information? He doesn't work at Nintendo, and this is the first I've heard of "40 launch titles, 9 from Nintendo". That seems the kind of thing Nintendo would have mentioned at their conference were it true. What, was he counting Ubisoft games as Nintendo games? Was he considering each minigame show in Nintendoland as a game?

I don't get this either. I got six games from Nintendo, am I missing anything?

Pikmin 3
NSMB U
Game & Wario
Nintendoland
Wii Fit U
P-100 (is this a launch window game?)

Slept on it.

Slept for almost 14 hours after being awake for 27-28 hours.

Still think that was one huge fuck up of a conference.

Still not planning on WiiUing at launch.
