Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Today in Things I Learned:

Xenoblade 2's character designer is a hentai artist.

That sure does answer A LOT of questions while simultaneously explaining when i hate it so much. He apparently did some work for Fire Emblem: Awakening's DLC as well.

Xenosaga III, I believe had a hentai artist too. Not much of a big deal and not that uncommon.

EDIT: lol, top of the page and it's about hentai.

Why is there an obsession for Retro and Star Tropics?

Let them work on something new

I quite enjoyed Geist back in the day, it was something different at the time.

You know what would be an amazing E3 third party exclusive announcement for Nintendo? A new Timesplitters

StarTropics has been dormant for almost 3 decades now and Retro has never worked on it, it's basically brand new at this point

1. Retro said it was something delicious.
2. One of the new features of Zelda BotW was cooking.
3. Zelda Mobile rumoured
4. Retro is working on Zelda Cooking for Mobile.

Working on a Star Tropics reboot would be something new, but sure. Might as well not be held back by an IP no one cares about

To be honest Xenoblade 2 artstyle looks so much better than the dreadful artstyle that was Xenoblade chronicles.

The anime artstyle is the least offensive.
It mostly feels like everyone has something different to say.

I'm personaly ok with it as it feels like an anime movie (not basic manga series anime I mean) type of design, like a Ghibli movie for example.
So as long as the writing is good enough and they get back the pretty good animation/directing from the first game, then it's perfect.

I just needs some balance in side-quests, difficulty/xp and sound volumes. Sound options would be awesome.

3. Zelda Mobile rumoured
4. Retro is working on Zelda Cooking for Mobile.

I didn't like BotW cooking....Too few results by far and then it was really the time I wished for a menu based option at the cooking pot level, rather than having to go into inventory, assemble a pile and drop. I get that they were going for a continuity in gameplay...but there should have been a more efficient way to do it.

So that's what Retro was hinting at all this time. I thought all those BBQ pics they've been sending to people when asked about their projects were all just jokes.

Can you guys believe it has been 9 years since Nintendo released their last mainline Animal Crossing game on a home console?

City Folk was released November 16, 2008.

Animal Crossing Mobile Fall 2017
Animal Crossing Switch Fall 2018 imo

I didn't play animal crossing at the time but wasn't the Wii version barely an upgrade from the DS?

Yes it was. And poorly received with disappointing sales. Iwata mentioned how this failure motivated the team to really think through for the next installment. That's how New Leaf was born.

So I'm just compiling a list of confirmed major releases coming to Switch for the rest of this year

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
ARMS
Cave Story+
Minecraft Story Mode
Splatoon 2
Redout
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star
NBA 2K18
Fifa 2018
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Sonic Mania
Sonic Forces
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
One Piece Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition
Fire Emblem Warriors
Super Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Even before more stuff gets announced at E3, the first year of the Switch easily trounces the first year of the Wii U

I would say it trounces most consoles' first year in recent memory, if all of those games come this year. Just a mainline Zelda, Mario Kart, and Mario platformer in one year is a grand slam.

I can't wait for all the "Nintendo Spotlight has been leaked!!?!!!!" topics to come lol. All the fake pieces of paper with games typed on them saying "Official Nintendo Spotlight Gamez"

Cave Story+ has been delayed 6-12 months, IIRC.

Needless to say I'm pretty concerned that they will be only showing games for 2017. Also that it looks like only Switch games will be included. That said outside of a new Metroid, Retro's supposed New IP, a Smash Bros Switch, and Pokemon Stars, I don't know what could be shown that could get fans mega hyped.

Isn't the "I don't know" the fun part?

Pokémon Stars, new Metroid, Smash Bros and Retro's New IP would be enough to make this a great E3 for Nintendo.

F-Zero, Mother 3 translation, some dope Virtual Console news (like Gamecube support) etc.

Thing about Nintendo is, while they may not bust out ALL the announcements for E3, they pepper them randomly throughout the year which is really nice.

Your gonna be in for a lot of shock once you learn just how many designers in japan, no matter the work are Hentai artists.
if you ever read hentai there's a lot of good art there

What else do you want? Metroid, Pokémon, Retros game and Smash are mega hype. That's plenty enough to go along with new gameplay of games coming this year.

So basically a bunch of ports, some of last-gen games 5+ years old that won't be updated, some niche exclusives, and 1-2 major releases? I don't see how this is a grand slam. Obviously the Switch also being a handheld helps with some of this as many of these games can be played portably, but it still pales in comparison to the lineup of the PS4 and even the Xbox One, and I think only Nintendo getting back on the multi-platform release train is going to fix that. Sure you'll get die-hard Nintendo fans, hardcore gamers, and kids, but the average guy who only cares about the yearly Madden and CoD releases is not going to find much to love here.

I think Pikmin 4 is a possible 2018 game to be shown. It's not a mega-hit so it doesn't need to come out for a Holiday season, and I think Spring 2018 would be a good time for it. We know they've been working on it.

Hell, a part of me believes that Retro is working on it as their "tasty" game. Think of how Pikmin (3) relates to food. Who knows, just speculating.

Lol what does Xbox have that will blow peoples minds?

Nintendo has more first party releases in year one than PS4 and Xbox. Also people forget that Zelda which was one game blew peoples minds and won E3 for Nintendo last year. The same can happen with Mario and that's not including other games they have in store.

Also what does COD and Madden have to do with E3 because last I saw they were most boring parts of E3.

Edit: Also you are heavily underestimating Pokemon.

I've said this before but I dig the XB2 character design mainly because it doesn't anything like the creepy doll faces from XBX.

By itself, it kinda reminds me of Tales except with an actual budget, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I'm really hoping we don't have to wait nine years for it again.

Please show please show please shoooowwwww

But that is something new for them. They've never touch the series.

I was referring more to a new IP, let their creative juices come true. That would be the ultimate test for the studio, they've been doing some else's IP for ages so it would be nice for them to start fresh

Geez, this was a stupid rumor back in 2013 before Retro revealed Tropical Freeze. Don't know why it resurfaced.

Oh. Well I think a good amount of people want to see that happen as well. They had some interesting concepts before making Metroid Prime like Raven Blade. It would be great to see them tackle something like that.

1. I'm not saying that MS will blow peoples' minds, but if I had to guess between them and Nintendo who has the better chance of doing so...Everybody loves Nintendo at E3, but people forget that they really only have two E3 presentations (2004 and 2010) that are pretty much universally considered to be amazing.

2. I wouldn't say Nintendo won E3 with Zelda when it was literally all they had to show. Was it the best game AT the show? Yes, but you just can't compare it to Sony and MS's showings. Quality means more than quantity, but not that much. As for first party games, that's all well and good, but Sony and MS don't make as much first-party because they don't NEED as much. They have plenty of third party releases that people want to play, games that 9 times out of 10 will not even appear on Switch.

3. Boring to you, yes, but for the average dude who just plays 1-2 games a year, that's what they want to see. They're the among the biggest selling games of the year for a reason, y'know.

4. I'm actually not underestimating Pokemon at all, it's a huge franchise with a gigantic fanbase. But it's an enhanced console port of a 3DS title, and I'm a bit concerned as to how much more enhanced it will be.

2014 was one of their best E3 presentations.

Boring guys who play CoD and Madden don't really watch E3.

I have plenty of confidence in them, even after many of the people responsible for MPrime left Retro demonstrated they absolutely dominate game design: DKCR and Tropical Freeze are true masterpieces. Someone with such a mastery of what makes a game work can surely translate that to other genres...and they count with Nintendo's support so...hype!

If I had to choose between Microsoft and Nintendo I would go with the latter all the way.

Lets be real the number one thing people complain about for Microsoft is the lack of first party exclusives which Nintendo doesn't lack and I don't see that improving at E3.

Also people who only play Madden and COD don't watch E3 so I don't understand how that would have any effect on E3. Plus I absolutely believe that Switch will sell really well just with Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey (system seller), and Zelda for the holidays. Stuff like Pokemon will be icing on top.

Would COD and Madden help, absolutely they would but Switch lacking those games won't stop it from selling.

Edit: FIFA will help as well but I'm wary about that title because EA has the tendency to fuck things up.

There literaaly were stampedes of people to play BotW, only time that ever happened before was with Wii. The game was #1 on all social media for weeks after that and the hype wave lasted until release. They didn't just win E3, they completely owned it.

You say this as if every console in the past, oh, 10 years has somehow been chock-full of hard-hitting exclusives during the launch and first year.

Not that I care to get into list wars, but a first year lineup of:

Zelda breath of the wild(who cares if its a port, its the definitive version)
Mario Kart 8( port, but better than ever)
Super Mario Odyssey( major exclusive)
Splatoon 2 ( major exclusive)
ARMS(new IP exclusive)
Fire Emblem Warriors( new exclusive)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 ( new exclusive)

Just removing the '5 year old ports' from the question, I look forward to you sharing the details of the superior launch/first year lineups for Ps3,Ps4, Xbox 360,3ds, Wii, and Wii U. And that's just what we know is supposed to come this year. We don't know what Nintendo is announcing at E3. So yes, I stand by my earlier comment that you took exception to: I would put the Switch's lineup for 2017, based on available info, against any console in the last decade.

I don't really know what MS could do to blow minds at E3. We already know Halo 6 won't be there and I can't see them pulling off anymore Scalebound like deals with a third party.
