Nintendo pledges "action" over inappropriate use of its characters

Fyi, there's missing context in the op article, they said it about an incident where someone cosplaying in a Mario costume was being a super creep to kids.

Nintendo has responded to concern over the inappropriate use of its characters online and said it would take "appropriate action" against anything that would make some players "feel uncomfortable".

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was recently questioned by a shareholder who said they had "come across cases on social media where Nintendo IP and games are used inappropriately". This "inappropriate" use of Nintendo's characters "poses the risk of damaging" the company's brand, the question continued - so what was Nintendo planning to do about it?

"I will refrain from commenting on individual cases, but we believe that appropriate action must be taken against any behaviour that undermines this policy," Furukawa continued, without specifying what that action might entail.

"Our goal is to create an environment where everyone can enjoy playing games. We will continue to make every effort to ensure that our consumers are not made to feel uncomfortable, not only in our games but also anywhere they come into contact with our IP."

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I honestly don't think there is any putting this genie back in the bottle. For every lewd picture of Peach or amateur porn video that has someone dressed like Luigi that they try and take down, 10 more will pop up to take their place.

Start by cracking down on Japanese doujinshi. Go on the next Comiket and hand out DMCA notices.
Do it you cowards!

What people expected him to reply? That's just the same answer Iwata would have given a decade ago and Yamauchi would have given 30 years ago. Really, nothing to see here.

Is this specifically about rule 34 etc stuff or is it a broader sense, like fan games and books?

I get protecting their brand but Jesus the level of delusion here on Nintendo's part is staggering.

"We shall now take on the entire internet"

Did someone at Nintendo finally play Elden Ring and now think they are Radahn trying to fight the stars and actually win cuz that's what they are essentially doing by fighting against the internet.

Only thing is at the end they'll look more like Godrick than Radahn lmao 😂

This is so vague that it could mean anything from Bowsette porn to AI artwork of Peach with huge boobs. Don't worry about it until they start going after people for it.

Keeping it vague, of course... No examples given of what made players uncomfortable in the past or present, no examples of what is considered inappropriate use of their IPs.

This is  so boring.

These Nintendo shareholders are so out of touch i wonder if they even understand how the internet works. Who are these people really? I think of this particular shareholder who did the complaint and i picture the stereotypical 80y old grandpa who still uses a rotary phone.

If it's not the case then what? If they understand how the internet and how the world works, what are they going to do about it other than organizing a dictatorship to rule the world and force their own laws?

Nintendo will have a hard time dealing with cases such as these.. I mean.. it's seems pretty cultural in places in the East, especially Japan to pornify everything lol.

Nice to see their priorities are in order.

They may take our lives, but they'll never take our vidya pr0ns! I will say that the community has made some real bangers, such as the infamous Bowsette and Boosette. I'd love to see Ninty take a chance and embrace the characters with some innovative gameplay lol. I've met coworkers who've even known of their existence which is mighty impressive.

Plus the plethora of good 3D pr0n of their properties is also quite impressive, with Samus and the others featured regularly. One artist I know is freaking crazy talented in building models, meshes as well a deformation on... parts and even fluids lol. Like game devs wish they had artists and modelers that skilled. My girl and I bet that many in the fold apart from just fans are actually people involved in films and games that either have a side hustle or have left since the pay and freedom are far better.

You'd think these images rather serve the brand. Are they really convinced these hurt Nintendo, or this is just some stupid half assed pseudo explanation?

I view these pictures and people who make them as representations of low lives, all these beloved childhood characters like star fox, link etc. are clearly legendary characters and one nerd who comes out of his cave once in a while knows about computers and creates creepy crazy inappropriate images of Nintendo characters.
