Nintendo Says 2.2M People Applied to Pre-Order a Switch 2 on Japan's My Nintendo Store — and Warns a ‘Significant’ Number of Customers Will Miss Out

Nah, not salty at all. Have you seen the reveal threads. People were bitching about the price and they can't wait to get their hand on one.

I'll pre order one tonight if I can.
I actually got the day off with pay tomorrow, and I'll be stalking my local Gamestop. I'm not waiting for a Nintendo invite.

Do we know how many of those were scalpers? I love nintendo games but the Switch 2 became a shit-value proposition for me (not saying for anyone else) as soon as they announced the pricing. I thought the first Switch was overpriced and didn't buy one until it had been out for years, and only then because I found a good deal on FB marketplace. Looks like I'll be waiting another 4+ years to get a Switch 2, if ever, sadly. Nintendo came straight out of left field and announced Xbox Series X/ PS5 pricing for massively less power. The solution is to not add a bunch of gimmicky hardware like a joycon that doubles as a mouse (and only increases that cost), and release a digital only, tv only console for less. But nintendo isn't interested in selling their console to people with a tighter budget.

Dont they know that SF6 is not natively 1080p, the internal resolution is much lower?

Those fucks dont known shit

God I hate when people just buy stuff with their money

When did a certain 'GAF' predict the Switch 2 would fail?

Yes,
And is anyone gullible enough to buy a non OLED version of the switch 2 if they release it that way?

assuming if the next generation are still interested in these IP.
The reason Nintendo has delayed it is precisely because Nintendo is scared to death of the very real possibility of it being a failure.

They're launching in uncertain economic times (Trump tariffs or China invading Taiwan would destroy their launch) and against stiff competition from commodity handhelds and the PS5. And as someone mentioned, their biggest competitor might be the OG Switch.

This will be the biggest flop in hardware history.

I could see it being a flop but not the biggest. Looking at the leaked images, there doesn't appear to be any product differentiation in design at all. It simply looks like a bigger switch. The joycon design seems extremely similar barring that additional trigger at the back which no one can see. To me its way too safe in design and they should have made it visibly different to the switch og. It's easy for people to confuse the two devices. Hopefully they just call it the switch 2 to avoid any naming confusions.

These enough or... ?

Note: I personally think launch numbers are never indicative of anything at all. That said, of course the numbers reported by the CEO here are really high.
I think Nintendo will be completely fine in Japan, but in USA and, especially Europe, it will be way harder to get close to Switch 1's numbers (lifetime)

Switch2 price in japan is 350$, take that price to the US/Canada(aka north america) and u got instantly 10m preorders, not only 2,2m, take that price to europe(including uk ofc) and u get another 10m preorders too, ofc some of those would be scalpers, but hell, i bet decent chunk of those japanese 2,2m preorders are scalpers too xD

Thank goodness you aren't in charge of any business plans.

It happened with pln too, just ninny doesnt give a damn, they subsidise switch2 price in japan just like they did with switch1 price in japan, remember that price was 265usd in 2017 in japan, here in poland switch1 price was 385usd(120usd more).
Ofc not complaining, ninny has full right to do it, but lets call spade a spade, ninny does it for specific reason, they wanna keep domination in japan at any cost, its important to them to such a degree, they rather lower console prices to the point its subsidised just to get huge instalbase first few years.
Im perfectly fine with that, again- not a switch 1 or 2 owner here, so its not me who has to bend the knee, ninny got product ppl like and are willing to pay- customers gladly do it, its capitalism at its finest and im bigtime for it.

WiiU was priced 300usd at launch but many customers around the world decided its bad deal so console sold barely 13,5m units worldwide- and again, no complains from me- capitalism works- bad deal for customer=low sales=console bombs in that case.

Im just ur avg joe, veteran gamer, ofc im not in charge of anything like that, high IQ ppl at nintendo taking srs cash for figuring best way to launch their new console, so let them do their job and judge them by the results, no idea why would u wanna compare guy like myself(aka nobody) to actual top dogs of worldwide known company like nintendo, bro :)

Nice try, but this is nowhere close to the infamous Switch thread where you had a broad section of folks skeptical about its future.

Now you're quoting a niche sentiment, largely driven by insecurity and some platform warring.

The general consensus here is that Switch 2 is going to be a success. and that was guaranteed when Nintendo stayed away from pointless gimmicks and pushed for a straightforward sequel.

As if you didn't have to pad that with speculation before even the Switch 2 was ever revealed 😀. Especially the last quote from F FalconPunch

I wonder where are those claiming it would be another Wii U situation lol.

I mean, the console is excellent so far, the only problem is the games prices... And it's not only MKW, I think they should have handled graphical improvements and additional content separately, Kirby is $80 for Switch 2 because you can't buy it without the DLC, but you can't play it upgraded without it.

Anyway, this is gonna be an amazing console, the first one I'm buying day one.

I really don't understand this… Adjusted for inflation, the console is about the same price as the Switch and Nintendo is making almost no money on each console sold. There's plenty of cheap Chinese consoles on the market for you to choose from. Nintendo is a corporation, not a charity. I'm sorry you can't afford it, that's a you problem. When there's something I want but cannot afford, I think about how I can make more money and do it, even if it takes me a little longer.

Are the games expensive? Yes. So I'll buy 2nd hand or wait for sales. Heck, we even have an awesome marketplace on GAF where you can trade games and it helps the community be able to play more games. Try it!

They way it's being rumbled about Sony might raise the price of the PS5 (AGAIN), this 449/499 rollout is looking better all the time.

Og switch was much cheaper here vs switch2 preorder/launch price, nintendo has 0 scrupples upping the price here in poland, 1349pln currently but on launch it was bit more expensive here(coz of marku up from retailers):
As u can see it was 1449pln aka 385usd, so switch2 is 200usd above switch1 price in poland- like i said, ninny doesnt give a damn, they care about japan market enough to subsidise price there too, its their choice to do so, hell they could do 1usd in japan and 999usd outside of japan, thats their product to sell so they decide about price in each market, just lets not lie to eachother its not the case, ninny doesnt treat japan and outside of japan equally :)

I call it the Gaijin tax.

Well, I hope nintendo increases their game price to 100 or even 120$ next time, because these 2.2 million people seems to love consuming and they deserved it

Like it or not, gaming, like any entertainment, is a luxury. And no, it isn't about being 'rich' or 'poor', it simply is not a necessity.

Anyway, for the vast majority of people, a Switch 2 and enough games to keep them entertained for quite a while is not beyond reach, and for many more all it takes is a little personal financial prudence to be able to afford it.

Pretty much, I work part time due to illness so my income is around minimum wage here, but I was able to afford one.
It's really not out of reach at all, you just gotta manage your money.

Ah, but you see, they just need their daily takeaway coffee. NEED.

How dare people buy a console they want, to play the games they want, with their own money.
and this kind of spending habit is why pokemon still looks like a low budget game with blurry texture and bad lighting.

because why would you bother when the fans are just gonna buy any slop you put out anyway. I would've done the same, work as little as possible and maximize profit

Nobody's forcing you to buy a Switch 2, if you don't like it just play elsewhere.

I was surprised there wasn't a similar statement about the U.S. but I just checked the site and there kind of is. It's a less dramatic one saying that "Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch."

Really liked the idea in concept but not in practice. How many people in their queue ordered through Best Buy / Walmart / Target simply because they didn't know if they'd get an invite on May 8th?

Probably a ton. And those who got a pre-order elsewhere, I guess that will open up a substantial number going through Nintendo.
