Enjoy the following games for Nintendo's stereoscopic system: Mario's Tennis, Teleroboxer, Galactic Pinball, and more will be released over time.

The dedicated accessory needed to play Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics will be available for pre-purchase at a later date. A cardboard model of the accessory will also be available.

Even though I'm totally gonna buy the accessory, I'm surprised they didn't just make it so that you can play these in 2D on the screen also.

I mean, yeah, the games were meant for a 3D display, but it's not like the 3D effect was that good. I even tried a virtual boy emulator on a meta quest, and still didn't think the effect was really good.

Another thing, I'm happy to see this accessory, but the thing that sucks still is Nintendo's focus on making these retro games only available as part of the subscription. It really sucks. I can pay $100 for the accessory, but it's only as useful as long as I'm paying for the damn subscription. I can't own the games, and that sucks.

This is such a 'Nintendo' thing to do. It's a neat idea but I don't need more plastic I'll use once and never pick up again in my house.

I just love how Nintendo never, ever lets anything go. They're still hoping that the Virtual Boy will finally "click" with gamers and become the hit they believe it deserved to become. That big platic casing is just the icing on the cake. It's so perfectly them.

I also have to wonder if the VB emulator for 3DS played a part in all this. Somebody at Nintendo had to see that at some point, if only out of curiosity.

I play the VB emulators on the Quest and years ago actually had one as they went on clearance for like 20 dollars within a year of release. I actually think it's kind of neat but of course not really virtual reality.

The prices though of these kits are insane. $100 for the stand and $25 for cardboard. I'm a moron and would buy the cardboard but the joy cons still are attached since that's how you hold it. I can't imagine playing like that for more than 5 minutes.

It's a weird thing for nintendo to make such an effort for by reusing all the old parts to make holders for the switch it;s apparent they still had the manufacturing moulds for it all somewhere i wouldn't be surprised if some of the parts in them were from the original production run. A lot of effort when the library of released games goes from mid to absolute shit. Twice i have owned one with a bunch of games and yup most are throwaway titles that act as a short term novelty instead of a decent game even warioland is crap yet its hyped up as some amazing flagship title it's not even as good as the gamebow wario games that came before it. As someone that is on the expansion pass tier of NSO i have no desire to go back and revisit these games i had enough back on it's original japanese release and then years later when i grabbed another cheap bundle from hardoff which finally cemented my opinion that while the tech was novel the games were shovelware at best.

However something good did come from it as it was basically a proto 3DS before the tech was available to be fully realised.

Still find it amusing that they are charging so much for the plastic shell when it basically becomes useless if you stop been a expansion pass subscriber or eventually they close the servers to get access to the games.

Weirdest announcement ever. I actually played it when it released because one of my friends was dumb enough to buy it and it was awful. I didn't have the heart to tell my friend though because my friend tried his best to love it so I played along. Probably the worst shit I've ever played.

And here I thought Nintendo had forgotten about it, or at least wanted to bury it for all eternity, but here we are. Virtual Boy. In 2025. If that's not a sign that the worlds gone crazy I don't know what is. It's also weird how Nintendo won't let you buy the games but only the VB accessory. The damn thing will be completely useless when you end the sub! I love Nintendo but damn, they are straight up loco sometimes.

What comes next? The CD-I Zelda games?

Show me the people that were nostalgic for the Virtual Boy. There has to be a literal dozen people.

I have a Virtual Boy with Mario Tennis and Mario Bros. game... You used this device, and it was very uncomfortable to play sitting down. It used batteries... And your neck, head, and eyes would hurt.

That's how we endured... Not like today's woke games.

With how much they're charging for this thing, they're basically sending it out to die... again.

I suppose that will be nostalgic for the dozens of people who buy one.
