Nintendo Switch 2 account bans continue — Content creator with over a million subs issues warning after buying an old copy of Bayo 3 on eBay

A Switch 2 owner has had their console "restricted by Nintendo" after installing a Switch game they bought on the used market. Quinn Nelson, the creator behind popular YouTube channel Snazzy Labs, fell foul to the long arm of Nintendo law, and now assumes the "old copy of Bayo 3 on eBay" they bought must have been dumped/ripped by its previous owner and got flagged by big N's anti-piracy servers.

I'm not claiming this isn't somehow "true" but also I'm not worried this will ever happen to me or anyone I know or even any of you. Good day. I know you want me to believe this is somehow possible it will happen to me, or my friends, or any of you, but I don't believe that and never will. Mama didn't raise no fool.

Nelson has publicly dabbled in MIG Flash game dumping

Not all social media responses to Nelson's situation were supportive, though – this is X in 2025., afterall A particular point was raised by Centro LEAKS, a Pokémon leaks, rumors and news site, which highlighted Nelson's previous posts, one mentioning that he intended to run "my MIG Flash game dumps" on the Switch 2.

Every damn time.

Maybe don't buy used games from pirates?
If it is as simple as buy card, dump rom and use it on PC / emulator (Nintendo somehow gets a fingerprint of that), and sell the card to an unsuspecting gamer that gets their account banned as soon as they start playing with it for a while… well it is not as simple as that.

Is what I just described a possible way to get your account banned?

Ngl this is putting me off buying used Switch games (currently hunting down discounted Switch 1 classics, I've missed multiple eras of Nintendo lol).
In my opinion people shouldn't buy used games from eBay or facebook marketplace, they are just not trust worthy.

I havent bought used games over 10 years but if I did just do in my local EBgames store.

Yeah I've refocused on getting new games that are heavily discounted, God bless physical overstock lol.

The tweets from Quinn are no longer there so did he confirm he fucked up using a flash cart????

If it's true that Nintendo is banning people for using used games that were dumped that's shitty. They need to confirm it the first time you stick the game in so the owner can get a refund from the person/store they bought it from not flat out ban their hardware.

Bro inserted a MiG Switch into his Switch 2.

As I've stated before in the other thread, the current theory is that Nintendo can detect a MiG Switch in the Switch 2, even if it has home-dumped roms on it. I'm guessing it's something clever, like the ability to tell the power draw for the MiG Switch compared to a normal card.

This means that even if you're using a MiG Switch with home-dumped games, you will likely get banned.

Based off of this guy's history, he almost certainly got banned because he used a MiG Switch in his Switch 2.

Moral of the story: don't do that

Csn you give me the signs I should be looking for while browsing used games market to avoid buying from pirates?

Please make sure that the signs are foolproof.

Thank you
For one I wouldn't buy any used electronics from eBay or Facebook marketplace.

If they want to avoid this then they'll have to have Nintendo stores around the USA offering trade ins like gamestop for only official Nintendo games for rebuy/trade in purposes. Gamestop anyone could go in and trade in 20 copies of Bayo 3 that are pirated, and distribute it out to people to essentially get flagged for banning.

Is this happening? Doubt it.

How is the buyer supposed to know? Like, imagine it's just a regular person who has a life outside of this shit. If (and I realize it's a big if) the facts are as presented here, this is insanely stupid.
Yep, that's barking at the wrong tree and is completely anticonsumer. I guess that's Nintendo's goal, to basically kill the used market.

If Nintendo's goal was to kill the used market, they wouldn't have created game key cards, whose only difference from a paper code in a box is that it can be resold.

It's more likely that Nintendo has some automated flagging system to ban consoles that use software that's been dumped and used on a MiG Switch, or other piracy device.

Apparently the Switch 1 wasn't able to tell the difference between a genuine game card and if that exact card was dumped and being played on a MiG Switch, and so that's likely why that flagging system exists. However, it's been theorized that the Switch 2 can detect MiG Switches regardless of what's on them. So, hopefully, Nintendo prevents bans from happening with authentic but dumped cards that people buy used, and instead just ban the folks using MiG Switches.

That's shitty if that is actually happening, but don't think this youtuber is a good test when he is known to use bannable cartridges in the past. This is probably a publicity stunt.

YouTuber seems to have deleted every single tweet referenced in the article.

Why the hell is a guy with 1.2 million subscribers buying used games on ebay?

To make it look like he's not a dumbass for getting himself banned for using a mig switch cart in his switch 2.

I sold some switch games on ebay none of them were dumped. Sometimes I buy rare switch games new from my local store play through them and sell them on ebay.
