Statement from Nintendo of Canada:
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

Damn, I predicted this too. Hopefully it's not to increase the price further for us and just to avoid all the US customers that were gonna be bombing CDN sites for preorders.

I'm now thinking if USA and Canada get shafted on the price due to the tariffs will it still sell out , also if it don't sell as much will Nintendo redistribute units to other countries with no tariffs where they can sell, although be interesting to see what Sony does with the ps5 , I think they will wait for Nintendo to come out with bigger price then put there's up

Probably because if they opened preorders in Canada before the US like 80% of the Switch 2 units allocated for Canada will end up in the hands of US buyers, lol.

I don't know about redistributing North America units. There are 90 days (ish) to go, you would need to pull out a % of units already shipped, flash them with a new region rom, and package them in region specific boxes.

I'll go as high as $750. Any more than that and I'll just trade in a few switch 1's.

I wouldn't be surprised if there ends up being no preorder. And whatever got shipped in before the tarriffs will be sold, and that's it.

I guess the retail distribution/markets are so intertwined that it would cause problems on some end.

My guess is if the American price is going up due to tariffs...the Canadian price is as well.

The initial wave for early adopters will absolutely sell out no matter what. It's the next waves that will tell Nintendo if they're in trouble or not.

Like something like 80% of Canadians live within 20 miles of a US border. I wouldn't be surprised if it was common that goods were brought into the US and shipped to Canada.

Lukewarm reception to Switch 2 reveal. Price backlash. US and Canada pre-orders cancelled. Doug Bowser doing a Don Mattrick.

Shuntaro Furukawa sitting at Nintendo HQ right now.

Looks like it, otherwise I don't see any reason to do this?

It's likely to prevent Americans from overwhelming the Canadian pre-orders. Nintendo probably has specific allocations for each country and doesn't want to deal with shortages in Canada while America has a surplus. It could lead to order cancellations when those customers get their local American allocations later instead and generally just cause a bunch of unoptimal situations. Nintendo probably also doesn't want to deal with the absolute cluster fuck of a Canadian unit crossing the border and a surprised American customer deciding they don't want to fork over the surprise $150-200 import duty so they return to sender.

I would be shocked if the Canadian price changed considering there are no tariffs from us on Vietnam that I'm aware of. I could only see Nintendo raising the price in Canada to:

- Somehow make Americans feel better and reduce outrage by raising all NA pricing.
- Discourage Americans from buying Canadian units and smuggling them across the border to dodge the tariff (This would be silly though because at some point Nintendo has to raise the price in every country to prevent smuggling).

Why would Canada be impacted by the tariff? We don't have an extra tariff between Canada and China/ Vietnam/ Japan now do we?

Honestly I think it's because US customers would've been flooding Canadian sites to secure a preorder so what would be the point.

If it was tariff / cost related they would've announced the delay at the same time they did for the US last week.

Between Tears of the Kingdom being supposedly delayed to avoid the Queen's death and this, Nintendo's biggest issues are geo-political issues.

Well, well. Canada got screwed over too.

I tried to get a Switch 2 order in the UK, but Amazon refused to send me an invite.

So…of the next question is…

Will we see more delays in the western hemisphere or Europe? Everyone!?

Maybe… the Mari Kart Direct!?
