So what are the chances this will bomb harder than Wii U? Is that even possible?

We now saying no Zelda at launch and Mario instead?

Rotate the 8 by 90 degrees. Mario Kart Infinity. Continually update it. Sorted.
The Wii U took 3-4 years to do Dreamcast numbers. There is probably never going to be a bomb that bad again.
"way better" than the best kart racer ever?
is such a thing even possible?

Splatoon: Retooned
Well, I do too ? 3D Mario won't make or break Switch, no.
It's still absolutely unnecessary, by any metric, to release what are literally 2 of Nintendo's best performing, most prestigious titles (3D Mario and Zelda) on a single day.
People always assume WiiU is an accident, when it is really more the result of a path than an accident.
That said IF, and i emphasize on the IF, the Switch is meant to replace the 3ds, it's going to do more automatically.
The thought of lovely Japanese men reading out offensive German text at a press conference made me laugh more than I wanted to.I honestly think that Nintendo could open their January presentation reading out "Mein Kampf" and this still wouldn't happen.
Of course, a Switch that sells, say, 20 million units lifetime would be rather abysmal despite being better than Wii U.
Right now, I don't see why the Switch doesn't have a shot at selling moderately successful numbers. In fact, if Nintendo plays their cards right, I'd say this could be a hit.
After Wii U, any level of bombing is possible. But overall I'm confident that this will reach Gamecube sales, since this time Nintendo seems to believe in the system. So what are the chances this will bomb harder than Wii U? Is that even possible?
No info on Pokkén Ultimate? We know it will be there, probably for launch, cashing in on Moon/Sun's success. Maybe some gen 7 pokémon exclusive to Switch?

Kimishima said in that interview with Bloomberg that they've looked at Wii and other successful consoles in their first year because they see the first year as the most important for gaining momentum. (Yes, I know this sounds like Wii U)
So how will they gain momentum?
They rely on heavy hitters like Mario, Smash Bros and Pokémon but they can't have them all launch at the exact same time.
List of hypothetical titles that are likely to release in the first year:
Zelda BotW
Super Mario Switch
Mario Kart 8 Switch
Splatoon Switch
Smash Bros for Switch
Pokémon
And that's all we're really sure of, those are heavy hitters where there are likely to be smaller titles in-between.
Whether it sounds like overkill to release all those games in the first year, think about how Wii U did terribly in 2013.
Plus, releasing these titles in the first year also helps to release DLC over time as well. (Referring to Smash, Mario Kart, Splatoon.)
Half of the titles are practically ports since they're not new titles that had to be built from scratch.
What's everybody's biggest want for the Splatoon Switch port game? Since it will have more content I would love for them to focus on the single player aspect more. Make a more fleshed out single player mode.
I would love to see a mode like Gears Horde mode but Splatoon-style.
I really think they should make a couple of local multiplayer modes. Right now you'd need 8 people to play Splatoon matches offline, so unless they add bots local multiplayer will be limited to that dumb balloon thing. What's everybody's biggest want for the Splatoon Switch port game? Yeah, definitely! Great idea actually.
Not sure if you played Sunset Overdrive, but some moments in that are basically Gears horde mode but with a lot of color. Looked awesome.
Would love to see it with Splatoon's mechanics.
I'm skeptical that they'll change the Battle Mode because I remember someone on the development teamproducer, director, someone else?digging their feet in and defending the mode. If they actually expanded it and made dedicated arenas for this Version 1.5, that'd be very big and could definitely get a lot of attention.
Pre-reveal, I distinctly remember comments saying that Nintendo could not possibly be confident in the NX since they were keeping the reveal so close to launch.
Now, we get comments like yours. Nintendo sure is a roller-coaster company.
Unless it gets renamed into SWiitchU and is $350 at launch, I don't think it's possible to sell much worse than Wii U.So what are the chances this will bomb harder than Wii U? Is that even possible?

Emily's recent tweets about the MK/Spatoon "portquels" actually reminds me something our man Serkan Toto said about Smash awhile back.
He never actually specified it to be a "port", he only said his source saw that were was a new Smash Bros. coming "for launch."

I think they better off skipping that and releasing Pokken Switch Tournament in the fall or 2018. Make it similar to Tekken Tag Tournament using the same engine and graphics but adding a ton of Pokemon.
You don't have to be a genius to figure out it's a port of the Wii U game.

To be honest I don't expect a new Smash Bros to ever come again. Only ports with new content added.
So like the single player Octogirl levels but multiplayer and unlimited?I would love to see a mode like Gears Horde mode but Splatoon-style.
If they have nothing else, sure. Though you do risk the consumer feeling they dont' need to buy another game for awhile since MK8+it's DLC is a pretty great value as is.Should they bundle Mario Kart with the Switch?
If this news about Mario Kart is true... I think it would make a good game to bundle it with the hardware. I mean, if it's basically Mario Kart 8+ i don't know if i'm going to put down another 50 or 60 bucks for it (again). However, getting it for "free" with the system, would be a big incentive, as a WiiU owner, to "make the switch". Also for non-WiiU owners, it would be a big thing, instantly a big online game. It would probably also be less costly to make (since it's an enhanced port).
Can't wait to finally see the Cloud and Bayonetta amiibos. You know they will push those two when Smash is released.
I would be good with Smash 4 with four new characters for Switch. They can get mileage out of that and start what I am sure is a devilishly long dev cycle for Smash 5.
Gimme Captain Toad, Kevin Keene, Cartoon Pit, and King Hippo, plz.
All those characters and yet no Ice Climbers and Inklings...

Probably because it was the first Nintendo game with platforming elements that mapped camera control to the right analog (the Gamecube's crappy C-stick in Sunshine doesn't count). He made a peculiar comment about Splatoon saying how it finally made 3D platforming viable, or something like that!
