We at least now we know that ugly logo is offical.

yeah its to bad they dont have a fancy name for it either, like Xbox Live, or Playstion World (i think thats what i read it was ...someone correct me cause im probably wrong :P), shoulda been something neat :( and not teal =/

...but i guess when it comes down to it, its just some stupid logo, and all that matters is that Nintendo will be giving us online, they will support it with many of there games, and we dont even have to pay ! so ugly logo or not ..YAY !

I don't know why, but I have this feeling that the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection will never happen.
I mean...I know it will...but it just seems like something's gonna go wrong. Oh Nintendo, why do I doubt you???

btw, I don't mind the logo really. It looks more "fun" than "cool", but it works for me.

That logo makes me say... yes, you guessed it...

As with all things Nintendo, everything must remain accessible to be as obvious as possible to the broadest possible audience as soon as they see it. So "Nintendo Wifi Connection" says a whole lot more about the nature of the service than "Xbox Live" or "Playstation World", don't you think?

It's the bad box art complex. Bad box art makes a game shitty.

Bad logo makes the online service suck.

The logo looks fine.

straight and to the point, with a nice cute logo that just screams simple. easy. try me.

Thats a pretty good point, i never thought about it that way ...i guess the logo is the same idea then too, no need to make anything fancy, just need an easy to spot marker that tells you what it is...and that teal dot will pretty much do it.

I have nothing really against the name or the icon ( other than the colour, but even that is probably a good idea so it stands out )...just after the fancy looking Revolution and controller i thought the icon would follow suit.

Like i said though, it really doesnt matter, im just so fucking happy i will be able to play Metroid with my revolution controller online...SSB Online, Zelda Online <drool>

I luv u Nintendo, ya rly.

It also doubles as a convenient marker point for wifi hotspots. So when someone sees the logo at Gamestop or whatever, they know it is a "Wifi Connection" place where they can bring their DS there for online downloads.

It's not a bad logo, it's just very pedestrian and has no real hook besides the color. Nothing interesting going on with negative space, very static, etc.

Another good point. I like the logo anyway. It looks classy, and it is informative. Can't wait to jump onto the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (NWFC) in November with Mario Kart

Pedestrian is exactly what you need when you're trying to appeal to as many people as possible and keep the interpretation as blatantly obvious as you can.

argon has a good point, but if they really had common sense they'd go a bit further and create some kind of "this is a HOTSPOT. you can DOWNLOAD AND PLAY STUFF HERE" logo on top of the Nintendo WiFi Connection logo.

Does anyone have that old picture ("fake") of the Revolution logo on a big blue sphere?

It looks very similiar to that. Maybe that old mock-up was actually a prototype logo?

Anyone have the pic?

Just because it has a block of text does not mean the intention is being transmitted to the viewer in the best possible way. When the form speaks for itself it can provide a much stronger impression, not to mention it becomes much more interesting visually. imo something along the lines of this:

viral.gif

would have worked better (logotype c/o Bionic-Sys).

But I digress, this is a game forum and we're debating the logo. I'm far more interested in how it's actually going to play out.

Also for you Aussie outthere if you go to nintendowifi.com.au It goes to Nintendo america's site but if you go to www.nintendowifi.com.au it does'nt work. So what you think?

Well the last time Nintendo AU's Site was down it redirected to the NA site if you left off the www but did'nt if you had the www on.

So something is definently happening with the .au Address too.

I disagree that logo is horrible

it looks like a bunch of pacmen sucking off another 3 cocked pacman

How about NEO

Nintendo Entertainment Online. Then with NEO, they could make all kinds of lame Matrix references.

NEO sounded good......untill i read the last part where you said Matrix References....and now its totaly ruined and i dont want it anymore :( ....long live Nintendo WiFi !

I don't see the logo on the site. Anyone else having this problem? EDIT: Hmm.. FireFox is blocking it, but I don't know why.

I don't have an objection against the logo, what I do have an objection on is the name. The "wifi" part to be more specific. It's good now, but what happens when "wifi" is outdated or there's a new lingo or word, they'd need to change their name again which would confuse joe-six-cells.

You would'nt beleive the problems I've had explaining the Wifi..... *sigh* Its so simple but people make it complicated by there stupidity.

I don't really get the logo, it looks VERY unprofessional IMO, and very un-Nintendo. And, not in a good way. The font they used for 'nintendo' looks like it was from a suicide note or something.

The Nintendo one aint that good but this one aint that much better...

I don't see anything really wrong with the XBL logo, though it's nothing special either. However, Nintendo's Wi-Fi logo...ugh :-\

And btw since you just started posting here, quit trolling right now, Jesus.

How's he trolling !?

He's trolling as much as you are.

Im not trolling simply saying that your'll bagging the Nintendo Wifi Connection (what a mouthful :D) logo where as the live one is just a Beveled Orange font with a Lense Effect.

And I said the Live one was better...

Well if we're going to start being anal about logotype design, then Live's really is pretty bad because if you transplant it to a white or transparent background, the lens flare on the I is invisible...

As for calling it WiFi... they're probably banking on WiFi becoming a generic descriptor for wireless internet, regardless of whether or not someone decides to start calling it something abstract like Bluetooth instead. WiFi, like HiFi, is easy to remember and attractive to market, plus it's a technical term that anyone can understand without necessarily knowing what it stands for (as with HiFi). So I still think WiFi is a lot more accurate than "LIVE".

Uh, please shut up. He wasn't trolling at all.

wifi signifies wireless, online doesnt.. using the term wifi will make it easier for people who arent technically proficient.. people already know what wifi hotspots are.. nintendo is just making it easier for people to make that connection.

honestly, i think its a very good logo, and a very smart name.. it doesnt shout 'cool' 'edgy' 'totally xbox' 'extreeeeme!!' but its simple and it just works.

The XBL logo is incredibly ugly. Beveled text? Welcome to 1995.

Nintendo WiFi is a simple logo. It doesn't offend me so I give it thumbs up.

The only hitch here is that Wi-Fi is not necessarily "wireless Internet." It's a form of wireless networking, in which your local area network may or may not be connected to the Internet.

miyruru you're so stupid; he wasn't trolling, he was pointing out an observation and comparison between the two. it's you who's the troll right now. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Yeah, but no one cares (except for the nerds like you that feel the need of pointing it out >:P).

And the flare just screams "hay u guyz i jus dl photoshop LOL, wut cool FX shud i use???"

Nintendo's logo is by no means great, but it's a simple, clean design that gets the job done. Personally I wish they had gone with a smaller, revised version (and with a better font) of the one below, from that theater commercial. Maybe they ditched it because it looks more like something a telecommunications company would use.

And HiFi is not just a stereo system. But no one cares, and they still used the term to market the product successfully.
