Nintendo WiFi Connection USB adapter now available online

Since Nintendo is so anti-Mac that the dongle won't work on a Mac does anyone know if the AirPort Express or base stations will work with the DS?

Now the question is which Canadian retailers will be selling it and for how much since it'll be sold in stores up here.

Was it at VGP that I saw it would be $40 CAD?

goddammit, i dont get paid till tuesday!

as long as i can get it before the 4 day thanksgiving weekend, i'm all good

Thanks for the heads up GAF.

Anyone know where they ship these from?

Giddy up!

Perhaps someone who doesn't need a wireless network in their home at all? No other devices can connect to the adapter so it's more secure than a regular router with WEP enabled.

It's cheaper for Canadians?

Product Subtotal:
(before tax)$39.95
PST: $3.20
GST:$2.80
Ground:$5.00
Total:$50.95

Put that through http://www.xe.com/ucc/ and it comes out to $42.87 US. :)

Man. I'd really like to know if the nintendo drivers work with the buffalo dongle as well, I'd consider getting that.

With a dongle, I don't have to downgrade the security on my wireless to WEP. The dongle prolly only works with the DS so fewer security concerns. It's also a lot easier to unplug the dongle when I'm don than it is to disable wireless the on my router. The portablity is also nice.

Yes. Nintendo, a company long-known for having an axe to grind with Apple, has made sure that you'll just have to make do with your damned Airport base station, which has gotten a five-star rating for compatibility on nintendowifi.com.

This keeps saying Windows XP, when the Buffalo interview clearly said 98/XP

Grrr

I only have Windows 98. I clicked the test thingy and it said: "NO, bad DrGAKMAN, you don't have Windows XP" what do I do???

You upgrade from your shitty 8-year old OS to XP.

You likely buy a new computer, as any computer with windows 98 has to be ridiculously outdated and old.

Or you buy a Windows 98 compatible wireless router (and try to find one that's confirmed to work on the NWC site) :)

TCP: Allow traffic to all destinations on ports: 28910,29900,29901, and 29920
UDP: Allow all traffic to all destinations. (Necessary for peer-to-peer connections and game play)

Wait, how am I supposed to do that when I have plenty of other programs using differing ports that will conflict if I try to open everything up?

Yeah, my computer is old...and I'm so poor right now, I can't afford a new one, no way!

Whoa whoa whoa, this dongle won't work on a Mac?

Source? Cause that would sure suxxorz.
.
Specifically, it plugs into your Windows XP-equipped PC, which means Mac-using chumps like me (among others) are out of luck.
But
Of course, you don't necessarily need an official Nintendo adapter. If your home or school or office is already wireless, there's a good chance you can go online with your existing network. In my case, I was able to use the Apple Airport Extreme I've owned for the past two and a half years to get online, and it was nearly as simple as using Nintendo's software -- despite the fact that it's not officially supported.

thats nice and all but my airport has been cutting off on me too much
I wonder if I should get a new apple airport?

:(

I guess I will have to get my Airport back up and running since I really want to get into the online fun... so what if my airport cuts off during a good race where I am winning?

then get a compatible wireless router instead of the similarly priced rumordongle

Still doesn't sp;ve my problem of needing a memory upgrade, a new monitor and other such stuff...

=*[

I just don't wanna have to deal with a bunch of security issues (I know not one things about all that stuff) or people loafing off my WiFi...and I want the dongle so I can take it over to a friends house to go online there, but oh well!

MAC filtering and not broadcasting your SSID are two easy ways to increase security but still allow you to play your DS online. The vast majority of leechers will just hop on an open connection. The more security you add, the greater the deterrent.

Off-topic, is your avatar the winner of the first season of America's Next Top Model by any chance?

Uhh...I don't even know what MAC & SSID mean...sorry. Nor do I really wanna know, I just want to plug in the dongle & go, but apparently Windows 98 has too many USB issues even though I have 6 different USB devices plugged in right now and working perfectly!
