What's the time? It's time to get Il.
Maybe you conservatives should have told Bush that before he wasted his effort on getting the world to help him invade Iraq. :D

People are going to hear his plea once again for help in places like North Korea, Iran, etc. and it's going to be like the little boy that cried wolf. Hell, it's worse, because most people didn't help him the first time either.

Seems a little shady... this is being reported three days after the fact? Seems like a lot of people would see this and it'd be pretty hard to cover up.

Now BigJonsson... we had TALKS with North Korea. We were busy bombing Iraq, 'cause they had stuff like old soviet missles and mustard gas! All North Korea has are a bunch of nukes, most likely! Come on! Iraq was so necessary for the safety of the free world! NK can be resolved through talks.

Scary shit.

But assuming that NK DOES have nukes and every other country realizes it I can only assume that the world would rally together to destroy such a threat. Of course we're going to need some concrete evidence this time, not "Iraq" evidenc.e

From Reuters:

SEOUL (Reuters) - A huge explosion rocked an area in North Korea near the border with China three days ago and appeared to be much bigger than a train blast that killed 170 people in April, Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday.
"There were rumors that the explosion was much bigger than the one at Ryongchon train station and the United States is showing a big interest as the blast was seen from satellites," Yonhap quoted an unnamed source in Beijing as saying.

The cause had yet to be determined but the source said Washington was not ruling out the possibility that the blast may be linked to a nuclear test.

Yonhap reported that a mushroom cloud up to 2.5 miles in diameter was spotted after the blast in remote Yanggang province in the country's far northeast.

The New York Times reported in its Sunday editions that the Bush administration had received recent intelligence reports that some experts believe could indicate North Korea is preparing to conduct its first nuclear weapons test explosion.

South Korean government officials were not immediately available for comment.

Thursday was the 56th anniversary of North Korea's founding. The reclusive communist state often stages extravaganzas and big events to mark important anniversaries.

Train cars exploded at the Ryongchon railway station on April 22, killing 170 and wounding an estimated 1,300. The blast was believed to have been caused by a train loaded with oil and chemicals hitting a power line.

The "western media", from what I've seen, only portrays him as a suppressive dictator with dangerous capabilities. Which is correct.

He isn't going to try and take over the world. But he does want power and influence. And ambitions such as those can be threatening.

whether he is threatening or not would depend on who you are.
but that was not my point.
"if NK has nukes then we are all fucked" - this sort of comments/mentality is overacting and just not true.

Wow, this year is looking pretty eventful (Putin's threats, crazy hurricane season, Democrats vs. Republicans, etc.)

John Titor's actual claims have become utterly irrelevant. Now if your toast falls and lands on the fucking buttered side Titor predicted it.

I personally don't believe the John Titor story, but it's just something I've come to associate with these types of occurrences

According to CNN (U.S. official), no blast took place

SEOUL, South Korea (CNN) -- A large cloud that appeared over North Korea in satellite images several days ago was not the result of a nuclear explosion, according to a U.S. official.

Forest fire, my ass.

A large explosion in North Korea does NOT have to be the result of a nuclear explosion -- a large conventional explosion or a meteor strike would have similar appearances. However, if it was an aboveground nuclear blast, then fallout will be detected in a couple of days.

I can pretty much guarantee that we have a VERY good idea of what the blast REALLY was, and if it was a nuke, we're not going to admit it first. Intelligence sources and methods are well-kept secrets. Also, there would clearly be some intense political fallout if NK really did set off a nuke. It makes the Bush Administration's already ridiculous position with respect to Iraq that much MORE ridiculous.

And no, there is zero chance that we're going to preemptively strike at North Korea. Unless, of course, you think the complete decimation of Seoul is a fair trade.

They're quoting a source, I guess the same one as Yonhap, saying there's a crater that can be seen from satellite and that it occurred "not far" from a military base.

This doesn't look particularly good...

Oh, and that's the first article I've seen that mentions South Korea's tests in 1988 and 2000... apparently this was revealed last Saturday, and I'm sure that would set North Korea off.
