No Car, No Money. What are my options?

To preface, I'm a college student who commutes from home. I'm unemployed, but was planning on going job hunting soon.

About three weeks ago my car's transmission gave out, forcing my family to ferry eachother back and forth in one car. Today, I was doing delivery work in Atlanta when, long story short, I get in a car accident. As far as I can tell nobody was hurt, and I got a ticket and a court date.

The car seemed fine, so I head out to pick up my mom from work. On the way there the engine started to overheat, and now I'm stranded on an exit road waiting for a tow truck with a stalled car. It looks like the radiator started to leak.

As it is, we had half the money we needed to fix my car, but the other half would come out of this month's rent. Now with this I'm not really sure we should do. We barely make enough to get by as is, and in the town we live in, you can't really go anywhere without a car. What are our options GAF?

Is MARTA an option? I know it's not the best system but it's relatively cheap.

Edit: Obviously this wouldn't help your delivery work but to get around I mean.

Start job hunting sooner than later
Sell stuff and get the radiator fixed
Put it on your CC if you know more money is coming by EOM

Maybe you or your parents can get a 0% APR cc. Alternatively sell some stuff. Otherwise talk to the mechanic and see if he will accept a payment plan.

Get a loan from someone I guess, or sell some stuff you can do without?

That's probably something I'll have to do at this rate.

Not likely. Mom works in a different city, and the nearest bus station is about 30-60 minutes (no trains here).

How much did they quote you to fix the radiator?

Still waiting on the tow truck.

You need to get a job asap. Get it together. You share a car with your mother?

Yes? Up until last week my schedule wasn't going to work maintaining a normal job. I did try though. Doing delivery jobs was my way around that.

Make, model, year of your car please.

My car is. 2001 Honda Civic
My mom's is a 2005 Honda Pilot

Put the car bill on a credit card maybe? Not the best option, but rent is probably more important.

Gullibility with family plus medical bills meams my credit card isn't an option.

No idea what that is, but I'll look into it.

start listing your gaming stuff in the B/S/T thread with your story.

I'll look into it.

If its just a radiator, you can get a new one for under $100 online. Spend some hours on google and you could probably have it fixed in a day. A shop would charge a lot more. If you really need a car and tight on money, fixing it yourself might be the best way to go.

find a friend that is living on campus, live in his dorm. Find some freshman use their meal plan to eat. Figure out if you qualify for on campus work.

This. Hell you can go to a parts/junkyard and probably pick one up for about $40.
