No Man's Sky 7th Anniversary Video

Starfield's baby brother.
Lol yeah some parts of the gameplay reveal had strong NMS vibes, which is a good thing. nMS's biggest failing, IMO, is the lack of narrative impetus to do anything. So if Starfield can allow us that kind of freedom while giving us a compelling reason to do shit, I'll be happy.

Can you play offline? My account nternet sucks in my current rental and until we can move home I'm avoiding online only games if I can.

Starfield's baby brother.

More like it's daddy.

Anyway, we don't say it enough, but No Man's Sky is one of the greatest gaming achievements ever. Truly unique, inspiring, and affecting - all while being a one-time purchase that has had only free updates.

This is LITERALLY the only reason I never bought the game. Just give me something to do for 25 hours and I would have purchased!

What do you mean there is a ton of stuff to do???
I've only scraped the surface on some gameplay mechanics and I'm 500+ hours deep.

Well there are quests, but they feel more like poems than stories. And they're incredible.

And after a while, there's so much to do, you start to genuinely feel like a space explorer. You just keep going and going to see what is in the next system, where should you build your next base, etc. It just goes on forever.

Play it as soon as possible.

I just remember trying it out back in 2016/17 and not liking it. Never went back to it, and probably won't.

Guided stuff though. I don't want to do alot of "discovery", if you catch my drift.

No Man's Sky is a perfect example how free updates can give your game the longest legs imaginable.
Every time they update with a free content pack, they slash the price 50%, returning player engage with the game again to see the new content, which kicks off a positive feedback loop when this sudden activity trips a bunch of trending system. Next NMS is one of the top grossing games on Steam (and no doubt console stores too) for a week or two. Meaning a seven year old game is still doing numbers.

I observed this dynamic the first time with Terraria when they started doing Mega updates.

The progression to do even the simpliest thing is guided and very linear, too much I'd say since I've done it all so many times. You have main story quests, base building quests, harvesting quests, mercenary quests, settlements quests, breeding quests, ship building quests, vehicle upgrade quests, fleet quests etc.

Just really wished they would revamp/update the animation system. Like, utilizing motion capture. The animation(s) just seem jank and could be a lot better

God damn it, I can't believe it's been 7 years already. I hate it that time seem to pass so much faster as you get older...

Also

omegalul

I can't believe that I dropped 40 bucks into this fucking shite.
Don't worry, it could've been worse, a friend of a friend dropped around $20k on Star Citizen in just 2 years time... :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I wasn't aware such a monumental amount of content was added. I might pick it up on sale for a "Don't want to get into anything narrative heavy" game to relax with.
