No Man's Sky is the featured game for IGN's First of July

As I posted in the other thread:

Just took a look at some past IGN Firsts

Xcom 2 IGN First June 2015, releasing November 2015

Rock Band 4 IGN First May 2015, releasing late 2015

Witcher 3 IGN First April 2015, released May 2015

Bloodborne IGN First February 2015, released March 2015

so yeah, No Man's Sky shouldn't be too far off :)

It's not just First of July, BTW. Content will be added throughout the month.

Kind of surprising to me actually if the release date is announced. E3 wasn't so far ago and I would have expected an announcement there. Guess they must have nailed it down recently.

Sean said in interviews that the team was planning to announce the date at E3, but decide to wait a bit longer. I wouldn't be shocked if IGN wanted to reveal it themselves.

I'd say they withheld announcing a release date at E3, as they had some sort of deal with IGN to announce it through them first.

lol I doubt IGN has any stature to hold such an announcement.

I bet No Man's Sky will be a launch Morpheus title, thus waiting for the release date of Morpheus.

NMS got all of five minutes on the E3 stage. IGN is by far the biggest gaming news site in terms of traffic. In terms of announcing it somewhere other than E3, IGN has more than enough "stature".

Maybe we'll find out what you actually do in it.

Morpheus is way too far out. NMS needs to come out this year. They showed it way too much since PSX for it not to, and Sony could use a console exclusive.

The sooner they announce a release date the better. I'm tired of seeing this game demonstrated. Release it and let us play it.

I can't wait for this. Really hoping we get to see something related to the crafting involved.

Maybe we'll find out what you actually do in it.

Even though I'm sure you're trolling, I'm going to post this for anyone else who comes in and is serious. Lol

I feel it's my obligation to do this, since I still see people asking. Here is:

It's not possible to misunderstand what the game is, what it's about, what you'll be doing, how it works, and how it's possible on a technical level after seeing those.

I hope the window between a release date announcement and actual release is as short as possible. Just drop it on us Sean.

I'm begging you. Please.

Marty Sliva said that he was made a believer of NMS after what he saw.

Same with Greg Miller

He started off as a "what do you do" person and turned into believer greg when he got his hands on it.

He's also talking about his impressions on it in an upcoming Kinda Funny podcast episode. I think it will be on the next one that should be out within 2 or 3 hours.

IGN does seem to pull the kind of traffic that might get NMS in front of the eyes of a number of folks that only casually follow games; could be a smart place to do a reveal, especially with the press it's been getting in non-traditional places (for games) like CNN. I'm skeptical we'll get one however, but I am always down to see and hear more gameplay!

With as much FPS that's going on in that title, no way this thing is on Morpheus. Seems like NMS would be too demanding to run at the frame-rate needed to not induce litigation-tier nausea in VR. I will gladly re-do my avatar to have Joel eating Infected crow for rest of the year if NMS turns out to be a Morpheus launch title. Gladly :)

Oh yes.

I've never payed any attention to IGN firsts since the games didn't interest me

I'm all over this one though, release date please.

"And it's out...today!"

One can dream :(

I have a feeling they'll release it and I'm still going to be hearing people whine about "What do you do?"

If you haven't figured it out already, the game probably isn't for you. They've released plenty of information to give you an idea of what you do in it. If you don't know by now you either haven't really been paying attention or this game just isn't for you at all.

Hmm

July must be a slow month. Surely there's games worth our time coming out soon?

hahaha oh man... imagine if this was a PS+ title, and I don't mean that in a good way. I imagine PS+ will be required to access NMS passive online functionality (interacting with the Atlas) and so to get the whole, ever evolving picture of NMS' changing, updating galaxy (planet discoveries, etc..) you'd need to essentially keep your PS+ sub active... indefinitely, especially if it's tied to your PS+ account and you can't buy it physically lol It would be evil business genius.

A release soon would be great but given what's been released recently that I still need to play and what's on the horizon, I'd be completely satisfied if it was simply a lock for 2015.
