No Man's Sky is the featured game for IGN's First of July

Oh god, Doc has almost the same face like in the other/newer gif which is floating around for a long time. First thought that someone shopped him a mustache.

Releasedate incoming?
Really curious with this game.

Who says Morpheus is far off?

I suppose if you consider 7-9 months far off then sure. Sony has already said it's a 2016 product.

As for NMS, I wonder how deeply they'll cover systems in the game. They have said they want it be like Minecraft PC version where you're learning how to craft stuff as a community versus the game straight up telling you so I can't see them doing too much there. Very excited though.

I'm looking forward to seeing a variety of biomes and hopefully variety in vegetation that matches the first planet of the E32014 gameplay trailer. Lots of little mushrooms, shrubs, rocks and such, much variety.

Yes, no assets 'as such'. I think a lot of people believe every single planet, every single tree, every single plant, every single ship etc, is stored individually on the disc which is why they can't believe a team of 12 could make this.
Yeah I'll be surprised if the install is any higher than 10GB.

Release date please, this game looks absolutely gorgeous, something to get lost in for hours.

If we are to get a retail release and Sony is supporting like one of their first party, a steelbook edition would be most welcome, especially with that art work

I assumed the delay in the launch date reveal was for the PC announcement. Morpheus launch date would be insane and probably really really bad. I'd never see another person outside of work ever again.

Maybe we'll find out what you actually do in it.

I guess it can't be a NMS thread without those people.

What are the chances the first video/article will go up today? I'd love that.

Looking at their other 'First' games, it seems pretty arbitrary when they upload their first video. Sometimes it's the last day of the previous month, sometimes it's the second day.

I guess it can't be a NMS thread without those people.

Considering we have people still asking what you do in Minecraft I don't think they'll ever go away.

Brought to you by the same people who burned out the "I took an arrow to the knee" meme.

Please, please, please be a 2015 title. I will choose this game over any of the big blockbusters lined up for this holiday season. This game feels like it was tailor made for me, with it's beautiful dreamy landscapes, ambient music and of overwhelming scale and sense of discovery. The main objective of reaching the center of the universe is intriguing me as well. What lies in wait there? This is incentive enough for me to mine, trade and if need be blow up stuff in order to reach that goal.

I never buy games day 1 ( always wait for a large enough price drop to to suit my budget) but I will be there day 1 for this game if it get's a physical release. Seems likely it will be getting one as well if Sony's comments on marketing the hell out of this game is to be believed. A physical presence in shops will give them a bigger chance than if it was just a download only title.

try years or even a lifetime :)

Early Access beta announcement on Steam? I'd buy that for several dollars.

The best PC can hope for is day & date with the PS4 release. There is zero chance this is coming to early access and unless they are going to limit everybody's exploration to the same, single solar system, or use a different seed to generate the galaxy for the commercial launch, I can't see them doing a beta (closed or otherwise).

Just some wishful thinking on my part. Don't they have a timed release exclusivity deal with Sony? I don't think we'll even get a PC release right away.

Come on gimme that release date. Either it's 2016 or there's a NMS bundle coming this holiday that Sony doesn't want to announce yet.

Pretty sure Sean has said on a few occasions close to the PS4 launch.. so it could be day and date but Sony could also say 2 week release window so all the buzz generated by this game is PS4 only...

The interesting dynamic is MS
will they allow it to be released on the XB1 considering it technically falls foul of their notorious indie clause...

on a side note is Elite coming on the PS4 this year or is it an 'console exclusive' for MS until 2016?

He announced it would release on both PC and PS4 at the same time at the PC Gaming show at E3.

No assets you say?

Yeah, those are all procedural. The base parts have been designed, of course, along with a sort of blueprint (or schema, rather) of what makes up a ship, but then those are combined and tweaked procedurally into millions of possible variations, like an RPG character editor but for ships. And weapons, and animals, and plants, and planets, and solar systems, and entire galaxies (well, at least one, although didn't they say a while back that there would be several?).

Greg Miller talks about his experience with NMS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ltnEKwuhkk
I'm a huge fan of Colin and gregg but after watching just over half the video I'm sad to see that they're coming across like typical, uninformed gaffer's with regards to their knowledge on this game.

I was expecting to hear some new things that helped sell the game for gregg but it's all information we have had for a long time. It's just kind of disheartening to realise that these people who get paid to give their opinions on games are less informed than me, some nobody we just reads gaf and doesn't have any of the contacts or history with the industry that they do. Same thing has happened with Jim sterling (who again I am a huge fan of), especially with vr as him and laura on podquisition have come across like sceptical, ill-informed forum posters that aren't aware of all the facts before talking about it on their 'job'.

This was my take-away from that segment as well. Love the KindaFunny crew, but this segment was kinda bad. Idk if they are at fault for this because of the industry itself, a lack of time available before reporting on anything, how Sean has been presenting this game, or a weird combo, but info and experiences from the industry have been somewhat varied.

I will say that while I can understand why Sean hasn't shown his entire hand, this game would have almost benefitted more from a prolonged beta release schedule like Minecraft where the population would organically figure out all of the stuff you can do. Since it's in the forefront and there are questions about what you do constantly popping up, you either have to be cryptic to maintain that feeling of self-discovery or lay everything out to appease those people still questioning.

Not saying that VGX announcement was a mistake in anyway or that this game having tons of press is bad, it's more that it seems this game benefits from player discovery while everyone and everything wants everything shown to them well in advance of launch.

Sean has said previously he does not want any sort of Early Access. He wants people to play the finished game for the first time.
Good to know. I understand that Early Access can be good for some games but I personally can't stomach it.

So if it is the featured game of First of July, where is the articles/features on it already? I mean it's 10 am already in Pacific time. When do they usually put out stuff for this featured thing?

I don't know but I'd also like to know the answer to this.

Wasn't this already a First? Didn't they have a series already where they went to Hello Games and all this crazy bidness?

He said "What do you do. . ." and then went out and explained what you do. Seriously though at this point why is this still a bad question. I can look up a wiki on "What do you do. . ." however that only goes so far in a game like this. Let's see it in practice. We've seen Sean basically show the same demo two E3's in a row.

That was Danny and GameSpot. Was featured for a week. Last year.

A year. That's horrible. Seriously need a release schedule for this thing.

My point is that both colin and gregg were asking those questions genuinely, not reiterating for the audience. Everything they were unsure of pre gregg getting the hands on at E3 was stuff we have known about for a long time.

That's where the problem arises, why aren't they aware of all this stuff? Is it that they are busy and don't have time to do in depth research? Most likely but when me as someone who just reads gaf knows more about the game than people who have years of experience in the industry, have various contacts and gets paid to comment on games for a living its just kind of disheartening as a fan, you know what I mean?

As I posted in the other thread:

Just took a look at some past IGN Firsts

Xcom 2 IGN First June 2015, releasing November 2015

Rock Band 4 IGN First May 2015, releasing late 2015

Witcher 3 IGN First April 2015, released May 2015

Bloodborne IGN First February 2015, released March 2015

so yeah, No Man's Sky shouldn't be too far off :)

It's not just First of July, BTW. Content will be added throughout the month.

Thank you for sharing, can't wait.
