No Revolution at E3 ?¿

From Worthplaying:

... and then there were two. Citing fears that Sony and Microsoft might copy some of the revolutionary ideas, Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata decided to withdraw previous statements and has now decided to not show the new Nintendo Revolution at E3 next month. Instead, visitors will have to be content with rolling demos of titles in development, a better look at the Nintendo online service, new Pokemon titles, and a new playable version of the latest Zelda title. We will be on site and report live if anything exciting does happen.

WTH

Hey, relax, Iwata's right.

I mean, just look at what happened with Super Mario Sunshine; you don't see it now because the secrets were kept, but just imagine how many games today would have had characters with water-gun backpacks if that information leaked.

Revolution will make an appearance at E3.

This is the same Nintendo that said that Revolution would alienate 3rd parties then sprung backwards compatibility on people with the same tools as GameCube at GDC, mentioned there would be a Wind Waker 2 on GameCube then sprung the awesome realistic Zelda on people, and confused the hell out of people with the DS until people finally got their hands on it and realized what it was capable of.

Iwata isn't a PR guy, he's the guy who keeps the competition on their feet.

At least in some form.

Brilliant. Another smart move by the big N. Keep em coming.

I'm under the distinct impression that they have no idea what they are up against.
Either that or they simply do not care. They better have something up their sleeve and I'm not talking about Zelda.

Well, he's certainly got us consumers up and nervous. :|

It wouldn't be a smart move to unveil at E3 anyway.

Sony is going to get a ton of hype and they deserve to get a ton of hype because they are the market leader and everyone wants to see what they got.

Microsoft is launching sooner and will have more complete/playable software to show.

So where would Revolution fit in anyway? Just showing the system and videos wouldn't be good enough and they're probably not ready to have playable demos.

Bring back Spaceworld, unveil the machine in August or thereabouts.

Sony will demo the PS3, which Microsoft will take cues on from how to proceed with the 360 presentation.

Nintendo will then analyze what they choose to let out of the bag, and then go with that on Revolution.

Every console manufacturer holds their best cards close to their chest at E3.

If PS3 blows people away...then count on a FULL 360 blowout (perhaps including Halo...which will depend largely on how the PS3 is received by the media).

If Sony AND Microsoft blow people away with their consoles...don't be suprised if Nintendo goes all-out to demo Revolution.

Revolution wasn't going to be playable at E3 for a lonnng time now. It should have a strong presence at the pre-show conference, however. I'd expect it to be akin to the Spaceworld 2000 GC showing in terms of detail/info/demos.

Well they can't show the revolution until they decide what the revolutionary features are going to be.

This thread is like, Duh.

Ugh, is Nintendo still using this lame excuse?

is it really a lame excuse? why didnt MS show off xbox360 at last years E3? if rumors are to be believed, the revolution and ps3 will still have another E3 to go through with before their release. its not so stupid to hold your cards close to your chest till the last moment. think about it, if the ps3 and xbox360 are unveiled at this years E3, that leaves next years E3 open for the taking.. and which E3 would you rather wow people at, the one right before the release of your next-gen console, or the one where both your competitors are unveiling their systems (over a year before the release of yours)?

Eh... I thought MS' MTV reveal was before E3?

All this crap's coming up because people thought Nintendo were going to show Revolution off to a large degree when they've never said that'd be the case. They've not said how it'll be shown, if the console itself will even be there...there's nothing for them to go back on, as they haven't promised anything. Except a presence of some sort.

But the X360 launches about 6 months after E3. Current conjecture places the PS3 launch shortly before E3, or shortly after E3. Doing a surprise launch shortly after announcing on a grand scale your systems' capability and demoing it in front of the press would be stupid, IMO...

If only I could think of some other event sometime 6 months or more before then...or if only Sony/Nintendo had SOME way of setting up their own events...oh well, looks like they're fucked.

the general public doesnt really care about e3.

True, but the info does get distilled into various game stores...and on to the consumer. It has an effect, not a huge one at first but the hype slowly expands as time goes on.

They would have a E3 all to themselves, but as it was mentioned before Nintendo never had plans to fully unveil their console. We'll probably get specs and demos, possibly more technology partner info.

Nintendo was wise back in 2001 by presenting the majority of their next-generation content in an interactive form. They put alot of emphasis in the fact that Microsoft was showing the majority of their games in a non-interactive form. I don't see why they would change their minds this time around...

The sad part here is, all the people getting wet from a story from Sp0ng will probably end up trying to find something else to be negative about come E3.

Well given that the GC was 6 months away from launch at that point (4 months in Japan), you'd expect nothing less. They'd also revealed the system with demos at Spaceworld 9 months earlier.

So it's not really the same situation at all.
