Got the phone 2 days ago. Very impressed so far. Have downloaded an assortment of programs. Internet surfing is great. I am still learning but i can easily surf and post on GAF anywhere on broadband speed. Email is very good although i am considering downloading a seperate program. Might try out my gmail with pop/imap access here.
Multimedia functions are excellent. Better than i ever imagined. Some flashy stuff there like 3d rotating picture browsers etc. :lol But i'd rather use the simpler thumbnail browsing galleries, lol :) Quick office is really great. You can carry important documentson you and read attachments you receive on the go. Very handy.

The OS does pretty much everything. You can even use it as a bluetooth remote control for your pc. On WMP and winamp for example as well other stuff :p Broadband internet and email is great too. Megapixel camera. Actually pretty decent for a phone.

Cant really praise i enough. It does so much (its loaded :lol ). Only gripes are lack of flash on camera and sync software could be better IMO. Nothing here i could say is actually 'bad'.

Got the phone with Orange, its on a 3G contract.

http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/3g

Orange have a good 3G deal going on till the Jan 31st in the UK. The network is integrated so if you lose a 3g signal your transition is seamless to 2g. So far i've only had a 3g signal. Coverage is excellent. This phone can be used on 2G too.

what software do you use to remotely control your pc? I've used control freak which handles Winamp (+ scrolling around your desktop etc). But WMP control would be good.

I agree with your comments though. 3G is surprisingly good. Most of the stuff from the operators is shitty, but it removes the barrier for stuff like email. You don't need to worry about file sizes, so you can download most emails completely.

Lack of flash isn't a big deal just yet. Later on in the year you'll get flash, but you only really need it with 2mp onwards. You'll also get bigger screens which will help browsing.

Yeah it's a terrific phone no doubt. Might get one next pay day...bills to pay ect. :( Guy in work has one, was really impressed with the camera and the quality of the screen display. Only problem is no option to use MP3 as ringtone, but you can get around that.

I already have a GMini 400 for movies and MP3s.....trouble with having a quality phone is, I'll become a muggers walking paradise. Especially living in London. Thank god for the CS Canister I got from the Internet. ;)

thanks for the link. I'm being recommended a megadrive emulator. Not too interested right now. Tried Spmark. Looks like this thing might beat DS for 3d :p

Well winamp is the only thing i've tried. Theoretically it can be used for anything? Its cool however. I'm still checking out stuff. A certain program wouldnt even start :lol Some themes are glitchy but alot of the stuff isnt meant for the new OS update yet supposedly.

Is this thing ok to try?

Voda and Orange have really shown how 3G really should be done. 6630 on Orange has been great. No restriction, specific software etc. I still have a 50MB download limit a month before charging extra 50p per MB. So i am careful right now but normal phone browsing doesnt take much bandwidth. GAF does however :p

Was it a Vodafone 6630?

Havent heard much about them. T-mobile should be relatively problem free. Only thing i didnt like was the branding on the screen and no inclusion of data in their tarif. They're giving the phone free if you get the Relax 200. You have to pay with the others but they offer a more concise package as in free data etc.

How different is the 6630 from the 6620. I just got a 6620 and have a 512mb card for it. Can I do basically the same stuff with it? Can anyone point me to a good site where I can find more programs and stuff for the phone?

6630 has 3G, better camera, faster CPU and newer version of the Symbian OS. And I think 6630 is little bit smaller. But basically you can do the same stuff with 6620.

my-symbian.com has lots of stuff for Symbian phones. Check out their Series 60 section. :) Here's few my favorite symbian s60 apps/games:

Legacy is a nice Dungeon Master-clone:

No. The 6230 is not a Series 60 phone (Nokia's version of a smartphone basically).

This thread comes at the perfect time. I NEED a new phone right now, and I was debating a 6630 + shift to 3, but decided against it. I think I'll wait for the fabled 6680 before I switch. In the meantime I'm grabbing another Series 60 phone, the 6670, which should tide me over for the next 6-9 months I reckon.

Wait a couple of weeks for 3gsm. Lots of new phones announced there which will come out in March-April. Then you can either hold off, or their announcements might reduce current prices.

No, see, when I say I NEED a new phone, it's not because I have a gadget urge... it's because my old one broke :p

Besides, Nokia announcing new phones in February and shipping them in March/April? Nokia can't resist a delay.

Maybe. Still, if you're thinking of waiting 6-9 months, thats a whole new ball game :p

Right, so I pretty much hate all of those themes. I want to make my own. What do I need for that?

Also, anyone have a complete list of resolutions required for pictures? Background, Go-To, Startup, etc?

lucky bastards... in America we are basically stuck paying $500 for a 6630 and it doesn't look like T-Mobile is picking it up any time soon to subsidize... bah....

oh well, I just ordered two 6620's for $99 each. I would like the higher res camera, faster processor, and the hardware OpenGL ES stuff but otherwise the 6620 is about the same thing..

grats on the phone man.. Series 60 for life.

'3' the network arent exactly the best choice for a series 60 device since they have a walled in approach. Go with Voda or Orange for 3G if you're in the UK, 3 dont do the 6630 anyway here. Orange have been excellent so far.

Yeah the US smartphone market is non existant. Palmone are top in the US. 6630 was obviously released to have a good stepping in the 3G market. 3230 is more affordable and for those who dont care about the 3G features.

Series 60 is a huge platform. Lots of non Nokia phones also use it.

You need the nokia series 60 theme creator.

Ugliest too? :p

Should look better in person. The 6630 is very nice for a smartphone. :D Nothing compared to the Motorazr still.

The camera on the 6630 is surprisingly good. Works great outdoors. I havent really tried taking pictures outdoors since i dont feel safe most of the time :p Will try in central London or a nicer area.

Here's someones pic from allaboutsymbian.com You dont need the sun to be shining bright all the time for decent phone camera pics. Pic is unaltered.

Can't blame you there. London is a phone mugging capital. One of the reasons why I doubt I'll see too many PSPs on the tube/bus either.

Well it depends on the area. Some tube line and areas are safe. The area i'm in has 'dont show off your phone' adverts everywhere :(

Do you have that? :)

Also I'm not in London anymore so 3's OK :) Actually they basically offer no subsidy here so I usually get SIM-free phones anyway.

Just register on forum nokia. Google search. The program isnt meant for non developers. So it will suck up resources on your pc :p

Well hopefully 3 dont prevent you from doing anything on the phone like they do here. They are dirt cheap here however.
