Non woke, non superhero comics/manga!

I just picked up black hole, deluxe versions of berserk and a bunch of junji ito books.

Ive read berserk and black hole 10 years ago, loved them back then. And i just started with uzumaki, i will buy every book he has ever made that is translated. Great stuff.

But its sorta hard to weed out what to buy. I dont want to buy super hero stuff unless its watchmen quality and self contained. And i cant stand woke/sjw crap.

Any recommendations?

Isn't Japanese manga in general "anti-woke/sjw"? You have to remember Japan is still one of few places on Earth that's Conservative and unashamed about it.
It seems you are confused. Having conservatism deep-rooted, then diluted remaining in a population-dense area is not the same as "unashamed about being conservative", and your sentence implies that outside Japan, you should be ashamed of being conservative.

Rather, had Japan upheld conservative values in action in a more wide-spread fashion, rather sporadic in some areas and a name-sake in others. It wouldnt be facing its societal problems that it does right now.

What problems does japan have? Compared to the west? Western europe and the us is 1000 times worse.

The population is shrinking sure, but the island is fucking piss shit small, with little natural resources or farmland.. Its a good thing.

Are you Japanese?

I couldn't care less about the whole woke/non-woke debate. GAF often comes across just as stupidly as Era does on that subject. I'm a fan of quality material that entertains me.

With that said, I'm going to recommend Hack/Slash. Pick up an Omnibus and start there. I own nearly every issue, even the rarer DDP stuff - some signed.

If you dig horror movies, 80s schlock, and tits & ass - you're gonna love it. Think Buffy, but sleazier in every aspect, and fighting 'slashers' instead of vampires/demons... even though there's plenty of that too.

Have you ever wondered why different regions of the world and their extremism can be closely related?
Middle east - suicide bombers
Japan - kamikaze

Compare and contrast. Testing grounds. Theres a good reason why strength and virtue can quickly be changed into submission and weakness, in a relatively short space of the time.

Now compare this to the west, and contemplate the end game

Ok, so you know nothing about Japan clearly 😂

Good for you, but if given a choice I don't want to read woke trash. Thanks.

You're missing out. There are some great French books out there. Moebius artwork is still impressive
I used to read Heavy Metal magazine back in the day so I’m very familiar with the work he did.
I was thinking more mainstream and current stuff

Literally any manga that isn't shonen? lol

What shounen is woke?

Man, you make me sad about what Hack and Slash has become.

At least we still have the old books.

As far as non woke stuff, youre good with most comics before the 2010s.

Unless we're qualifying everyone with powers as a superhero.
I assumed that's what he meant. Not that long of a stretch when kid (x) gets power to fight evil. (?)

That disqualifies a lot of non shonen too bc fighting evil with powers is a common thing in a lot of seinen series too.
True, but only in the similarities of mainstream cape shit where killing is bad ect ect.

I would recommend Vagabond and Vinland Saga, where the latter is my personal favorite. Vagabond takes place in Japan during the 16th century and you should check it out if you're into Ghost of Tsushima.

Vinland Saga on the other hand takes place during the viking era and is by far more historically accurate than HBO's Vikings series. It's very clear that the author has made an insane amount of research on vikings while writing this manga and I think his work is quite remarkable.
Though keep in mind that the manga was first introduced in a shounen magazine which is aimed at teenagers. So there are some shounen tropes such as Thorkell the Tall, although being based on a real historical person is so strong he's able to knock out a horse with a punch or impale four soldiers with a single spear throw. As well as Jabbathe which is a minor character that's a reference to Jabba the Hutt as a comical relief.

The manga caught the attention of adults and it switched to a seinen magazine which is aimed at adults. It was then that the author changed the tone of the manga. It became more darker, more focus on realism and over time, the art as well became more detailed.

There's also an anime with the same name, which was an alright adaptation. It certainly wasn't perfect, but it wasn't terrible either. It managed to make an amazing adaption of the earlier chapters, but in my opinion the later chapters were lacking some of the detail found in the manga. The anime also heavily censors gore and nudity.

I was gonna say Slaine the Horned God but you might classify that as 'woke' so I got nothing.
