North American heatwave discussion.

My list of places i can one day move to to fulfill my dream of living in a chill temperature all year round just shrunk hugely.

Am i right?

Anyone living in affected areas wanna share your woe? I come from Australia and live in the hottest, sweatiest City in Japan so I'm no lightweight but at least I've always had aircon...

You’re seeing normal temperatures, a rise to some degree from global warming. I think it’s a typical North American summer.

30 to 35 c in poland too.
Even if it drops during the night, it's still the same in my apartment. Insulation is great... for a winter :p
I am not a big global warming believer. It might just be time for another ice age and that's just how it start. It's a cycle no matter if we pollute or not. Pollution might've just fucked it up a bit quicker

Toronto has been around 22-29C lately. So nothing surprising. We have a humid heat too so during bad days youre sticky and sweaty after being 10 minutes outside.

But thats what AC is for!

I think you can update your stance :) congrats, you're a believer! pollution speeding up an established natural process is the core of global warming. Nobody's saying we made this process, just that we're speeding it up, too fast for natural processes to keep up.

In Australia, student housing is done on the extreme cheap.. i lived in a concrete box with a broken aircon unit, and it was so normal i didn't even bother asking them to fix it. I got it fixed once and it broke again after like 3 days of use... I know your pain.. in Japan I've always had a working aircon unit, so I'm glad for the nuclear energy here for making my electricity bill pretty cheap lol

Least the out West heat doesn’t have humidity with it. Here in the southeast a 95 degree day feels like 110 while needing gills to breathe.
I'm in the midwest where it's unbearably hot from June-August when it rains constantly and the humidity and mosquitos are terrible

I just replaced both of my units and it looks like the supply chain for a/c in the states is pretty stressed. Lack of raw materials to build, lack of workers and plants to build, lack of shippers to move, and lack of warehouse stockers to inventory what does manage to be built and shipped. Throw in electronic supply issues for those fancy high SEER units and it is just messy. So don't sleep on a dying unit if that is your lifeline in the summer!

Yeah, fuck summer - full of bugs and unbearable heat... I prefer every other season (even winter and spring is the best). Only good side is that girls/woman are showing a lot.

Eventually when I'm older I plan to move to the mountains living at a high altitude so it shouldn't be too hot. Anyways I live northeast usa and weather is fine I'm going outside in a hoodie

Question, has or is China seeing any heatwaves?

They probably won't even divulge their weather observations. Good thing there's satellites. Would be interested to know if we ever see any interesting atmospheric flows or alarming trends in global weather patterns.

At the first sign those guys are throwing the rest of the world to the wolves by controlling weather patterns, I would knock that communist government off its seat with WW3.

I learned a lot about this today lmao. Apparently most homes and businesses don’t have AC. I thought it was residence only.

My electricity bill was twice what it usually is. Not liking how often the AC is running.

I wish I could win just enough in the lottery to move retire early to some extremely mild location at a high, cool elevation. I'll deal with cougars and bears, whatever, just please no more heat.

It was 78 degrees in Beijing this past February.

But, yeah, they probably got some Dr. Claw weather manipulation shit going on. How else could you explain what's happening in Oregon?

May I suggest, however, that before we start getting antsy for world war three...
We might give inspector gadget a call?

I've faith he could sort this out.

Not really here in the south, in fact it's been raining and the temperature has been lower the past week. The week before it was hitting 35C but that's kind of normal now.

It’s been a consistent cycle for weeks on the east coast. Heat wave, big storm, cool down, heat wave, repeat. Every week. Since June. We haven’t had one week where it’s been consistently mild. It’s 90 96 96 96... thunderstorm...78 80 81 90 96 96 96... thunderstorm.

just give me two weeks in a row where it picks a fucking temperature and sticks with it.

Last weekend felt like being in Asia during the summer here in Vancouver, glad it’s over now though. I had trouble sleeping. Today is cool and breezy. :)

Actually, they have, and beyond that they're predicted to be the first country to experience a deadly temperature event, during which heat and humidity are at such high levels that people cannot regulate their body heat and anyone not in air-conditioning will die..

Under the business-as-usual scenario of greenhouse gas emissions, North China Plain is likely to experience deadly heatwaves with wet-bulb temperature exceeding the threshold defining what Chinese farmers may tolerate while working outdoors.

The mountains are currently going through the process of becoming a desert. 10-15% of the mountains of Northern Colorado burned last year. I watched houses burn from my house. =(

Currently quite cool in Maryland, normally hotter and more humid than Florida in the DC area. But I’m aces in heat, I can ride, everything about my job is easier in it, and I look good with some color 👍

I don't get it, with heat you can't do anything at some point (other than ac i guess but not outside) but with cold you can always wear more clothes or warm yourself with devices.
When it's cold, it's freakin' cold.

At least with summer heat, when the evening or night comes, it starts to cool down nicely.

Yes but you can’t ride motorcycles or electric bikes without freezing. 95 to 100 degrees yeah it can tire you out for sure, but at least where I live it doesn’t get hotter than that and I’m completely comfortable at that temperature. It’s honestly a lot to do with genetics I think. Like I paint cars for a living we come in and start work at 3 or 4 in the morning so we’re not painting in the peak heat of the afternoon, usually knock off at lunch them I’m hitting the pool lol

I'm gonna have to co-sign with this sentiment.

If you're someone who gets flustered by the heat wave, just hop your bitch ass in a pool or even the nearest body of water you can find. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I think the title could be changed to "Northern Hemisphere", lol... It's warm as F all over. It's cooled down here in Sweden a little, but we allready had 33 C for a week straight earlier. Fun living in houses built to retain the heat for winter. AC's are really uncommon, but alot of people have heat pumps atleast, which you can reverse.

Live in a highrise, so lucky to have a modern heatpump too, but I still have like 3 fans going.

It just feels strange when temperatures here go higher than around the Med. All the native flora is suffering too, won't get any blueberries to pick this season, forests are pretty crispy.

Yeah! Endless global nuclear winter would cool everything down

Insanity to see it happening right before our very eyes and there are still some people so brainwashed by corporate lobbyist and also selfishness that they would rather close their eyes and live in their own reality living a comfortable lie than to use their own brains to think critically.

But who wants to give up their Ford F150 pickup truck and national short distance flying amirite.

I'm a firm believer in Global Warming to deny it puts you right into the AntiVaxx/Flat Earth group of people for me but lets be real here, us in the West with our nice cars and short hop holidays aren't to fucking blame, the corporations, the massive food industry and all the other huge industries are too blame and to think you have in someway contributed or can in anyway help means those same corporations are doing a great job of convincing YOU its your fault and not theirs

An endless circle of blaming. The rich always have been very good at riling up the poorer part of the population against each other.

I don't disagree with you regarding the corporations, but they won't change and give up profits if they aren't being forced or put in a position to do so and even though one person (like me) doesn't instantaneously have the power to change the world it does have to start somewhere.

I am far from perfect, but I try my best to self reflect, improve, vote for what I think is right and the change has to start somewhere. I can understand shifting the blame from myself and blaming bigger players, because it is much easier to soothe my brain, but that would also mean lying to myself and I have never been a fan of that.

To each their own. Sadly we all have to pay the price since we share the same single one earth.

Climate change won’t be tackled properly until enough major companies and governments see their bottom line being damaged by it. Who knows if it’ll be too late by then. I guess it’s up to the rest of us to be as responsible as we can, and not give our money to companies that aren’t trying to curb their emissions. It also means we have to stop being so selfish, but with the way so many people have acted in the pandemic, I fear there are still too many entitled asshats in the world for us all to make a difference.

Corporations only exist because we choose to support them. True, we may be marketed and brainwashed to support them. At the end of the day we give them our money and they'll take it until people stop doing so. There's a saying I've heard, "If they are stupid enough to pay for it then I am smart enough to take it."

Many entitled asshats out there, myself included. I do believe the pandemic is teaching people a lesson
