The autopsy report into the death of rapper Notorious B.I.G. has been released, 15 years after he was killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old - killed months after the death of rival rapper Tupac Shakur - was hit by four bullets although only one killed him.

The LA County Coroner's report said the fatal shot entered his body at hip height before slicing up through his colon, liver, heart and left lung.

Other non-fatal shots hit his left forearm, back and left thigh.

No drugs or alcohol were found in his system, according to toxicology tests.

"Decedent may be rap singer," says a scrawled note near the end of the 23-page, mostly type-written report.

Notorious B.I.G., real name Christopher Wallace, was a passenger in a car when he was shot on March 9, 1997, in a slaying attributed to the intense rivalry between rappers on the western and eastern US coasts.

The reason for the autopsy report's delayed release is unclear.

But there have been prolonged investigations over the years involving both the LAPD and the FBI, and allegations by various people about who was behind the killing.

A spokesman for the LA County Coroner's Office, Craig Harvey, said he did not know why the report was released only now.

"We are only the keeper of the record. The decision to place on Security Hold or remove Security Hold rests with the law enforcement agency," he said.

The murder on LA's Miracle Mile area, which remains unsolved, came six months after his rapper rival Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas.

Shakur's killers also remain at large.

Various theories have linked the two murders. Some believe they were killed as part of a rivalry between their two music labels at the time, LA-based Death Row and New York-based Bad Boy Entertainment, according to the LA Times.

Wallace's family has fought a long-running legal battle against authorities in Los Angeles, alleging that a police officer was involved in the murder, which bore all the hallmarks of a contract killing.

Lawyers representing the family of the rapper have lashed out at authorities after the release of the report.

Attorney Perry Sanders says nobody has been arrested over the drive-by shooting in Los Angeles, even though police had told the rapper's family that they had solved the murder.

"This is a horrible miscarriage of justice," he said.

"The family has been advised that the murder has been solved, and they are hurt and disgusted by the fact that no one has been arrested."

Decedent may be rap singer," says a scrawled note near the end of the 23-page, mostly type-written report.

Decedent may be rap singer

Ridiculous on several levels.

While there are several notions as to what exactly took place during the planning and execution of Biggie Smalls, with the available evidence, one theory seems to be more consensually plausible than the others. In terms of the target, it’s speculated that Marion ‘Suge’ Knight ordered the death of either Biggie Smalls or Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs (aka Diddy) and asked LAPD officer David Mack, who at that point was employed by Knight’s Death Row Records for security and who also had strong ties to Compton Bloods street gangs, for assistance. Mack sought out his ex-college roommate Harry Billups, who had since changed his name to Amir Muhammad after converting to the Nation of Islam, to commit the drive-by in that legendary black Impala, and drive off into the night. A public execution outside of a high profile Soul Train Awards after-party, in a busy Los Angeles street, in front of hundreds of potential witnesses, without a police chase or video surveillance - even though the FBI admits to following Biggie Smalls in Los Angeles for up to a week before his murder. Who Shot Ya?

Eugene Deal claims to know. Deal, a former bodyguard of Puffy Combs, denounced the LAPD’s favoured allegation that Biggie was murdered by members of the Southside Compton Crips (the same gang accused of murdering Tupac Shakur) over an unpaid protection agreement. Bad Boy Records had been using Crips as security for appearances while on the west coast. However, some sources, including Reggie Wright, the head of Death Row Records security, believed that the Crips began extorting Puffy Combs to the extent where he refused to back down from their demands – and allegedly paid the price. Deal, however, maintains that the Crips showed nothing but love at the Soul Train Awards after-party and instead points the finger at a figure dressed like a “Nation of Islam guy" who "seemed to be checking [Combs] out." Deal claims that that same figure turned away and began walking north, the same direction from which the black Impala came only 10 minutes later. In an interview with documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield, Deal was shown 6 mug shots of individuals who in some way had been suspected of being involved in the murders. He immediately pointed to the picture of Amir Muhammad and said "that's him right there." The LAPD has never shown Eugene Deal, a prime witness, a picture of Amir Muhammad.

This seems like the most plausible scenario from all the ones I've heard.

The cop David Mack was then arrested in 1997 for robbing $700,000 from a bank in South LA (the money was never found). Dude even had a shrine for Tupac at his house. I think the reason the LAPD never went further with the investigation is because it would've unveiled a whole lot of corruption in the department.

"Decedent may be rap singer,"

Maybe it's because I'm running low on sleep, but I have no freakin clue what this means. Are they saying that they don't know if the body is actually Biggie?

I read it as if they didn't know if Biggie was a rapper singer, not sure though.

Biggie and Pac are examples of everything that is wrong with viral marketing in this country. Ain't no way Puff and Suge aren't behind this. How much they made off these icons since their deaths?

Guru use to say Big and Pac were gonna squash the beef and start thier own label...which would have destroyed Suge and Diddy.

Nas said himself, and the Outlawz too, that Pac settled his beef the day before he got killed

This is when Nas and Pac met in NY, and Nas had ~50 armed goons and people were out for Pac's head

I still think PAC was killed by crips and Biggie by Suge/corrupt LAPD. There's a lot of documentation regarding the issues Pac had with the crips

No doubt...but it sold records.
"The Bitch in You" was one of the best songs to come out of this.

Rap battles were a cornerstone of hip hop but because of the media spotlight and a few knuckleheads who didnt understand the artform, people took the idea too far and ruined it.

Crips killed Pac. Suge and his cop/blood's connects killed Biggie because Suge thought that Diddy ordered the hit.

People don't realize that the West vs East shit wasn't just music. It was about who was supporting and backing the rappers. Puff had crip connects and Suge was a blood. Pac and Big were just tools. Once Pac figured this out he went to Nas so Nas could settle that shit. A few days later Pac got into a fight with a crip in Vegas and he was killed because of it. It's that simple. All the conspiracy theories are a joke. Pac and Big were squishing the beef and were going to make a record together (since they were friends before the beef shit started). That would have made Puff and Suge a shit ton of cash.

I don't get it. A lot of these guys made music in the 90's.
There's a good amount of tracks in there from dudes that didn't make music in the 90's...

The point is, to say that there isn't any "good" rap music nowadays is just plain stupid. It may not necessarily be right in front of us, but it's definitely out there.

This is why the case never got solved. As soon as people talked about Biggie, someone has got to mention Pac, then someone mentions another rapper and so on and so forth. Everyone's got opinions and we all got to hear em.

Case solved.

Got a link to where Nas says this? I've never heard of that before.

.

I'm a Pac fan but I'll readily admit he was playing a part with a lot of that gangster bullshit, letting the people around him slowly push him to the edge of no return. He reached that line by stomping Orlando, and it was a wrap. Dudes were waiting for a reason to smoke him.

And fuck Diddy for throwing Biggie to the wolves. There was no reason for Big to go to Cali so close after Pac's death
