OK, I've been mildly concerned, GI (I know) gave it two 8.75s, I'm just shocked that not many people seem to want to give it 9 or above. The demo impressions from people here are more than enough to relieve me, though.

i`ll agree, SLAI has some cool points and a strange soundtrack, but the core gameplay is very boring. nothing to compare with some of the greatest mech combat games like mechwarrior 2. its just deathmatch with little robots.

I don't know about SLAI but the original phantom crash wasn't realy meant to be a mech simulator but rather a customizable fast pased deathmatch game and it did that very well.

I always wanted a sequal on xbox live but alas when I pick up a cheap ps2 I will have to try SLAI even though it may not live up to what I would expect a sequal to PC to have.

How? I mean...that's not even average...that's bad. REAL bad.
Based on my enjoyment from playing this game for like 30 mins, I would definitely rank it higher than 1.5. Wonder what they complained about...

From what I played of the Japanese version, Devil Kings wasn't that great, just a shallow version of DMC + DW really. Worth a rental for some cool over the top stuff, but it gets old way fast, I didn't find it as deep/intriguing as Dynasty Warriors, which I love.

Plus didn't they totally change the game for the US release? That might've hurt it too.

To be fair, I don't see anything particularly controversial about the games they give 4s to. Gamecube doesn't have a trillion good games per month, see, so NP has to be more careful! It stands out more!

Also, OPM gives us demos.

For what it's worth, GI score is bigger than what they gave Ico, and the only other score is 9 from OPM.

How low can this series go? I haven't played one since Armored Core 3 (which I liked), but it seems like the scores for the new ones are in free fall. Maybe they should give this series a break.

It's not so much that people thought it was going to be perfect as much as they just didn't like the complaints leveled against the game in the review.
