Nah it ain't going to catch up to the wii for NA.

It might, depending how next gen shenanigans shake out. 360 could have 1 or 2 years before nextbox where Wii sells near zero with Wii U on the market, allowing it to take the lead (Wii is a bit less than 8m ahead right now). Could happen worldwide too.

But again, the dominoes would have to fall correctly for it to happen.

Would it be impossible that both Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 chart in the same month? That would be some straight Nintendo shit.

I doubt it's possible. Black Ops won't be able to chart in November after a new COD release.

Given the release slate for November, in addition to big games like Batman the month before, I would say it'd be rather miraculous for CODBLOPS to still be in the top 10 when MW3 lands.

I also hope the 3DS numbers are promising. Nintendo needs some news that doesn't include "batshit insane."
Who cares? Nintendo is already DOOOOOOOOOMED!
True story.

01. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (360, PS3, PC)
“Deus Ex: Human Revolution, was the top title for the month with just five days in the market before the end of the August reporting period. In September, it is likely we'll see Madden take the top spot.”

August bitches.

We can now add Deus Ex: HR to the list of "Single Player August Sales Successes" along with Dead Rising, Saints Row, Batman AA and Bioshock.

Note to publishers: if you have a single player game that is risky but good release it in August

That's insane that Blops is #3. People who were saying CoD won't make much of a difference for the Vita are nuts, unless all the hype dies within the year (and CoD Vita comes out in 2012.)

With the number of giant releases that will be out by November I would say it's highly unlikely, but if anyone (other than nintendo) is gonna do it, Call of Duty is it.

How did the CoD games sell on DS?

So what are the odds that DEHR is going to end up as SE's most successful game this generation?

Has SE said anything about its shipped number? This chart doesn't tell us much, for all we know HR could have sold 350k combined on 3 platforms.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
They said that every platform increased over last month, also DS+3DS
DS+3DS was...

Nintendo DS: Best selling platform. > 277k
Nintendo 3DS: Lower weekly average than last month, meaning at best 114K, but it could be quite a bit lower.

DS+3DS in July: 400k circa
DS+3DS this month: more
With DS falling and 3DS rising

probably not all that great.

of course, it had N64 graphics instead of PS3 graphics and probably touch controls, instead of a second analog. If it had online, it wasn't PSN.

Is it important that Major Nelson said number one console instead of number one platform? Could the 3ds have topped the 360 sales for August? I want my predictions to be right (it'd be a first).

Edit: nvrmnd.

You know it seems that way but look at some of the titles that are coming in at 9 and 10.

True, but the first half alone for November has Uncharted 3, MW3, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed and Saints Row 3 on deck.

November is a whole different situation though. You need to move a much higher volume to chart during the holiday months, and Black Ops won't be able to do that when MW3 is out.

Nintendo 3DS Sales Up 260 Percent Following Price Reduction

Nintendo sold more than 235,000 Nintendo 3DS™ portable entertainment systems in the United States in August, and the system finished as the No. 2 best-selling dedicated game system for the month, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. About 185,000 units were sold following a price reduction on Aug. 12, an increase of more than 260 percent during the comparable 19-day time period in July.

“Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.”

Other Nintendo milestones reached in August include:

Nintendo sold more than 590,000 total hardware units in August, including more than 190,000 Wii™ systems and more than 165,000 units of the Nintendo DS™ family.

For the third month in a row, the majority of the best-selling software SKUs play on Nintendo platforms. August featured five of the top 10 and 15 of the top 20.

So far in 2011, more than 50 million units of software have been sold for Nintendo platforms.

In total, 540 million units of software have been sold for the Wii system and Nintendo DS family of systems combined.

It actually does. Simple math.

Is it likely? I didn't say that, but there's a chance. Dont forget 360 gains on Wii every month now, and has for many months, before Wii U.

If it's anything like the DS-3DS transition, Nintendo will kill off the Wii pretty fast once Wii U hits. So there's your opening. Combine with 360 price drop or what have you. ~8m can go in a year or two if Wii sales fall to negligible. And remember, they're not that great now, with no successor on the market. Plus, even past this, I'd suggest the 360 will have much stronger legs than the Wii in it's years after it's successor hits (more like the PS2>PS3 transition)

To say there's no chance is shortsighted. In fact after typing all that, I'll even say it's likely. But I could be wrong

So how many times has the PS3 been in short supply?

August 2010 not last month right

All platforms (if you combine DS and 3DS) saw unit sales increases over July.

This is what they said.
Then, they talk about year over year increase.
If they were talking about July of last year, they would've said July 2010.
And that wouldn't have made much sense, IMHO

EDIT:

O SHIT WEDBRUSHH AM SO WRONG

Could you link to this or is this solely a press release?

It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that I like to format the OP a bit.
