NPD Sales Results for December 2013 [Up2: Xbox One/360 HW, 3DS top system of year]

With 49K LTD for TW101 in the USA and horrible numbers in Japan, I hope Nintendo still has faith in Platinum and will release Bayonetta 2 according to plan.

It's *probably* close enough to completion to be treated as a sunk cost, no?

I don't see them canning anything that's still on track to ship before the end of March 2015. Beyond that... well, we'll see what happens with Zelda or SMTxFE.

My take away from these Sony numbers is that outside of The Last of Us and PS4 HW, everything they have done has bombed (well Sly did ok for its budget). People might praise Sony's first party for quality, but they are having some serious issues right now. Who knows if the GT brand is even fixable after these GT 6 sales...

Us=world

We already know beyond is already over a million worldwide.

With how starved PS4 gamers are for content, no doubt in my mind GT6 would have sold better on PS4. Fuck, I would have bought it and I literally hate racing sims. I'm dying for something to play on that system, it's so nice.

I can't disagree. But I don't think when they started development of GT6 they anticipated some of the big PS4 launch games falling through. If things had went according to plan, they would have had their sim racer (Drive Club) and modern sandbox game (Watch_Dogs).

Hindsight is always 20/20.

Minecraft retail is insane.

GoW Judgment bombed hard.

I don't think Judgement bombed. 3/4s of a million physical copies in a single region isn't a bomb. At an average of $25 a copy they are near 20 million. That would likely have covered Polish dev costs for People Can Fly.

Wonderful 101 is more a bomb.

For Gears franchise sales are low.

Anyway, to make money should be ok.

It really doesn't matter, does it? It's up to Nintendo to fill out the lineup now, so it's doubtful they'll cancel a game so far in development.

I think it's going to get released, but it will get sent to die with no advertising small shipment and not even the Direct that 101 got. I don't see 100k LTD in the US.

So what's next for X1 and PS4 in terms of s/w releases?

Jan-Apr always dry season. What's big coming out besides TitanFall and that racing game.

Lastly, there will most likely be a Last of Us 2 for PS4. For a new IP to do this well at the end of a long console life cycle is insane. For it to also be a critical darling will also benefit it.

That 60% likely includes digital only games. It doesn't really tell us anything.

Of course it does. Kz or Tearaway didn't sell 60‰ more digitally. Or I assume not unless the digital numbers are skewing further and further. The point is that Sony sells more software on its store. Which means no shipping/retail cut for first party games and that they get what the retail cut would be for third party games.

This is why the vita makes money with a small user base. The attach rate is over 9-1, and yes I'm certain that includes cheap games, but Sony is getting a cut of all of it and a much bigger cut of the digital stuff.

I would not be shocked to see it go full digital in NA in 2014 and they stock/sell it like a tablet basically. EU is less likely as im sure they still go more physical because digital prices are insane. And in Japan the vita is ok.

I think this March will be the last hurrah for the vita in the West. I'm guessing the 2000 with a price drop comes out, vita tv (maybe?). FFx and minecraft are already slated for March and rumor is that borderlands may be also. I also assume the bigger memory card will come out which will hopefully bump each size down a price slot making *some* of them reasonably priced. When it still doesn't pick up steam in the West I think that's when it goes digital only and everything is either indie or Japanese.

SCEA doesn't know how to market anything that isn't backed up by Naughty Dog excellence or buoyed by their European and Japanese branches.

Period. There, I've said it.

Congratulations Microsoft on repeating in North America.

Infamous, but that's a fairly minor franchise and I think it misses the typical launch glow-period, where people buy games they otherwise wouldn't just because they're excited about their new toys.

Wow, 1.5 million The Last of Us just in NA alone and not including digital has got to make ND and Sony happy.

Damn, for a new IP so late in the generation too.

So TLOU number doesn't include bundles? Must be over 1.5 million then, probably quite a bit higher when you consider the Holiday bundle. Really good.

Pokemon combined sold more. At least, if I'm remembering correctly it did.

Wait we are sure if that 67k was included in the previous number.
Considering the rest of the games in the list, I'm sure Sly numbers were PS3 only, and the 67k is Vita only.

You keep clinging to that notion and we'll chat again in 3 months after Titanfall. I don't see the PS4 supply issues getting any better.

What notion? Its a fact they are behind. And why do you think Sony beating them while having supply constraints is a good sign for MS?

I'm a bit surprised Rayman sold best on Wii U. I wonder if it would have sold a lot more if it launched on the intended launch date.

Looking at Lego City numbers which came out with nothing else, I would say yes it would have, huge mistake by UBIsoft but thats not the first time MS policy cost'd a publisher

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
That brings Fire Emblem at 500k in USA with digital sales from Nintendo :)

So happy!

Mario Party did good considering and again congrats to Next Level Games, LGM2 is such a great game!

True but that's retail, god knows how minecraft did with digital.
