NPD Sales Results for December 2015 [Up1: Super Mario Maker]

so no exclusives, but i wonder how different the chart would be if it went by individual version instead of cumulating them, since they each aren't the exact same product.

My thanks to you creamy.

I would have thought the Order could reach 500K honestly. Until Dawn will pass R@D game in no time : |

Of course, one was happily destroyed by the voice of internet, when the other one became by surprise a favorite of the goddess YouTube.

I know this won't ever, ever happen, but maybe it's time for another developer to take the reigns from 343i
That doesn't make sense really because it's not actually a bad game by any means. You have the die hard a that hate it because it's not halo 2-3 but it's an extremely competent game all around

Only thing I can think of is launching in maybe August or July next go round or an off month.

Different launch date wont do anything. You dont decline like that because of the date. Thats the market sending a strong message about what they feel is the state of the franchise

donny, April will be interesting.

How do you define what is most anticipated. I don't think there is anything but previous sales in a franchise that can be used and Uncharted is not one of the biggest in those.

If I go by that metric, it means there are 10M people waiting for it. So for exclusive titles, yes, it is. Even if it were multi platform, that's still a lot of people.

I'm happy creams' numbers are up there so some people can see how hard it is to hit that sales number.

[December 2012 LTD] Halo 4 (US bundles not included + UK bundles included) ~ 5.4 million.
[December 2015 LTD] Halo 5 (US bundles not included + UK bundles included) ~ 2.05 million.

What are the install bases of the consoles during these time periods? What are the attach rates of the games to their install bases? Would be useful for further comparison.

But they already tried to COd it up and that backfired. Maybe people just don't want to play that type of game massively anymore

Division should depend heavily on reviews and the ability to explain what kind of game it is.
From screenshots and artwork alone you could first think it's just another Modern Warfare clone.

My biggest gripe with what I've seen so far is how bullet spongy the enemies appear to be. It just doesnt sit right in such a realistic game. If you are shooting aliens with space weapons that is one thing but shooting an entire assault rifle mag into some dudes face is just weird and totally immersion breaking.

Also I DESPISE how all over the place the HUD is in this game. LIke your screen is literally littered with elements, markers, and notifiers constantly. Its like somebody took Assasin's Creed's overbearing HUD and asked "how can we make this even more dominant?" It compeltely ruins the game for me. Why would you take an otherwise gorgeously rendered/ diligently designed game world and then cover it all up with umpteen many flickering flashing things? Drives me absolutely crazy.

I do think that many will find the disconnect between realistic modern guns/setting to clash a lot with their more RPG focused mechanics and as such sales will suffer a bit.

But hey I was totally wrong on the impact the SW movie would have on Battlefront soooo I'm by no means claiming certainty here. Just a theory based on personal observation.

It's not a matter of install base, for example here are Halo 3 sales by the end of 2007 when Xbox 360 install base was below Xbox One.

LTD as of December 2007.

US - 4.82 million / UK - 0.74 million [Total - 5.56 million]

Good LORD at that decline. Man I really wonder what MS / 343 are going to try to do to right the ship

I think that Halo 5 working and being good (well, to me anyway) will help it improve for Halo 6.

I highly doubt it will get back to Halo 3/R/4 level but they will likely bundle it heavily to get it into peoples hands and show them its a good game and then just go again for Halo 6, which may well end up releasing on Windows 10 day one anyway.

Im sure Halo Wars 2 on Windows 10/Xbox One will do well too particularly on PC too in the mean time, keep the post-launch DLC plan going as planned too.

Quality does not affect week one sales all that much. Stuff like marketing and hype do a LOT MORE. And The Division is going to be Destiny for the COD crowd.

Its gonna be damn big opening week / month. Question will be how it legs out

Yea no I don't see the CoD crowd buying into bullet sponge enemies. They are used to incredibly low TTK. The Division, despite its contemporary setting, could not be further from the CoD gameplay loop. The second those players shoot an enemy in the face multiple times and dont kill them they'll hate it.

If anything I see The Division appealing to the Borderlands audience. I think it will end up selling marginally worse than Borderlands did LTD. Which, all things considered, aint bad at all since it sold over 5 million copies.

So Halo 4 sold less in the same time period as 3? Interesting. Do you know about Reach as well? I wonder when the audience for Halo was saturated. I'm guessing between 3 and Reach.

I strongly believe that what you're seeing with Halo 5 is that many jumped ship this generation from Xbox to Playstation, and the rest of the lost sales are from those that haven't jumped in to this generation yet. Changing the developer or the game won't fix a thing, the sales of the next installment will get better when XB1 has a bigger installed base and when the ones who jumped ship has realized that they can actually afford to own two consoles. Halo 5 is a great great game, you really can't blame the decline on the quality of the game, a big chunk of the core 360 crowd who played Halo to death online and offline simply play on PS4 this generation. You can even see this just by looking at GAF and how the talk goes in any Xbox vs Playstation discussion. Xbox simply isn't as popular anymore.

Is there any title besides Division launching in March? Only other one I can think of is Zelda.

I think it'll do over 1 million easily. Even Hardline managed it.

Why you gotta remind me man.

At the end of the day, people are probably just tired of halo! Being on a less desirable console compared to ps4 this time around made matters worse for them. A lot of the 360 converts either don't buy two consoles or didn't want to justify for halo or gow alone.

Halo 3 was a September launch, Halo 4 was November.

The drop is very much real, and with how 343 are handling their post launch plans (very crappily) I doubt the legs will be good.

Wow at 1886 outselling Until Dawn at retail! o_O

I thought Until dawn would be doing significantly better than that given all the positive WoM and all the Let's Plays.

I switched to an alt account to ditch my embarrassing tag so I could be an embarrassing Naughty Dog fanboy in peace. Ask me anything!
Bloodborne killing it! So awesome to see this game sell well.

I don't know if id buy that because the two strongest Xbox markets (US and UK) have higher xb1sales than the 360, so I don't think it's a matter of people jumping ship.

It would be interesting to know the budgets for each of these games. We will probably never know.
Ehhh until dawn started as a move game than was switched to the ps4 and used on the shadowfall engine with no marketing. Meanwhile the order looks like one of the best graphical games so far this gen,had plenty of commercials. I'd probably give it tp the order but than again who knows.

Also worth to mention sony hasn't said shit about the order sense. At least with until dawn shu came out and started talking about marketing makes me thing it did at least alil good.

Well we atleast know that until dawn exceeded sales expectations and the devs are happy and working on another game!

Both had a similar opening but Halo: Reach was more frontloaded, LTD as of September 2011 [1 year of tracking] was below what Halo 3 sold in its first 4 months.

By the way, US Halo 3: ODST first two weeks of tracking nearly matches Halo 5 2015 sales.

Wii U and 3DS aren't in the top 10 for December or even for the year.

So what can Nintendo even do to change this for the NX?

Anecdotal but the Halo world champs are happening in twitch and the viewer count was less than 2k. The have was only on the twitch top 10 for like maybe 3-4 days after release. It doesn't seem to pull attention at all.

I have sometimes read that how come Bloodborne sales were over 2 million units worldwide, well, now we have more concrete data.

We know that it has sold 754,000 units in the US market, let's add what it has sold in Canada and we have that the total in North America has to be around the million mark including digital.

In Asia Bloodborne was awarded with the Gold Prize which means that shipments (including digital) were over 500,000 units.

Finally, European Bloodborne sales were at 406,000 units by the end of June, let's add the additional units sold during the following 6 months + digital sales and the total will increase notably.

With these 3 regions Bloodborne LTD is already well over the 2 million mark.

Sounds about right (I was skeptical) with the info of 300k outside Japan and the Canada numbers. Did we have a bunch of Canada info posted in this thread? I asked NPD_Mulcair for some but didn't catch anything plus a bunch more people asked afterwards and still nothing.

People like to give US stick but 800k Bloodborne is extremely high and people love to praise Euorpe and in particular Germany but it only did between 100-200k. Canada with less than half the population of Germany did better or as good. For whatever reason Bloodborne hype didn't seem to take hold in the EU and US/Canada seem to get into the hype of the Sony exclusive. Would be interesting to see the breakdown of Dark Souls.
