NPD Sales Results for February 2015 [Nintendo Numbers, Majora's, MH4, ~XB1]

Entirely possible. And I actually think it may outperform The Order. Even for being a relatively niche title. Order's legs are non existent outside of pretty much the first 5 or so days.

If Bloodborne musters strong reviews and word of mouth it could easily thrive. There's plenty of room for in in the current market. Especially with the lack of RPG's lately outside of Dragon Age back in November and nothing else similar in the category until The Witcher 3 in May.

I think a better game to judge Bloodborne sales is MH4U. It's the closest thing to the FROM game on the market today (platform exclusive, Japanese action game etc).

It was hyped for months beforehand all across the gaming media just like Titanfall was, presumably based on the assumption that multiplayer-online fps is still the hot ticket it used to be.

They aren't now? Looking at the sales of CoD, Battlefield, and Far Cry I would argue that the market has not suddenly stopped loving FPS games. Fary Cry 4 has sold over 7 million units.....

Ms will not drop the price until after the Halo sales bump has subsided. You might see another crazy bundle this Christmas, but every system they ship this holiday will sell at $349 in the states.

349$ with on top 50$ of holiday discount + game included (Tomb Raider) + gift card at selected retailers? :D
You can bet that MS has something like this in store =)

Somewhat. But in all honesty there is a large section of the Playstation 4 userbase hungry for a big quality exclusive game.

Bloodborne may end up surprising.

Titanfall had a bigger impact than Evolve even though the former didn't release on PS4.

The genre definitely isn't as "hot" as it used to be but there's still many who care about online shooters.

Did you read this sentence in the OP?

"Demand for PlayStation 4 remains incredibly strong in the U.S. as it was No. 1 in hardware and software sales in February"

Sorry, I was just looking at the Order and the Nintendo system titles in the top 10.

But even with the most sales, what is the attach rate?

Ignoring the people who don't seem to understand why people laugh at the family comments when made about cross gen or cross form hardware; thats a really fucking solid month for games in general.

Great result for Monster Hunter. Deserved, devs have made huge changes to be much more welcoming.

Looking at the top 10, in February they were buying Evolve, Dying Light, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K15, Dragon Ball: Xenoverse, Minecraft and The Order: 1886.

You know, current gen games.

Man, sure glad Bloodborne is coming out soon and I don't even have my PS4 anymore.

Seriously, people are bitching about the 3ds being no 1? Are you people stupid? oh wait, it's because it's nintendo.

Those MH4U sales make me so fucking happy. Just as a irrelevant blip I had 3 friends who never played MH pick up the title and they're loving it. The series totally does have a future in the west it seems.

It was also hyped by gamers playing it at events. It wasn't until people got to play more than one round of it that they realised it was boring. Though I don't really see that as being a reflection on multiplayer fps, and more a reflection of the fact that chasing startled birds for 10 minutes isn't fun.

...they are, on console and PC. Just because Evolve didn't break records doesn't erase every other fps on the market moving units, like the others in the top 10.

Edit: Internet hype isn't a good gauge of how well a game does. TF surpassed EA, MS, and Respawn expectations, made money, and guaranteed a sequel. It did well by any metric that matters, even if it wasn't the next CoD.

The Launch trailer that we'll see from BB tomorrow will be amazing and I guess word is the review embargo is lifted on Monday. I'm expecting very favorable reviews. After that, word of mouth takes effect. With the only big game in April being MKX. Bloodborne has a real chance to carve out a name for itself.

I really laughed at some reactions in this thread, goddamn at some really salty people mad that the 3DS won one month.

wtf are people buying a PS4 for?

The software sales don't look so good.

PS4 software had best sales of any console this month, and besides that, PS4 has largest game catalogue, better hardware for multiplatform releases, more promising near-term software with Bloodborne [maybe some are already getting console for that], more varied 2015 exclusives [many indies and some AAA], better history/marketing with some upcoming 2015 multiplatform releases [FF15 demo, MGS, Arkham Knight marketing deal] and overall, PS4 is still more appealing to the casual audience even with the higher price.

And let not even start talking about sales outside the US, and the possible online pressure for people to start getting PS4 so that they could play games with their local/worldwide friends.

Most people don't care if a game is exclusive or not.
That's just console warrior rhetoric. Good games are good games. The most popular ones are on PS4 with the exception of Halo. The way PS4 is selling Sony isn't actually desperate to rush out some first party exclusives.

All I'll say is it was tracking below The Order when I made that comment.

That being said, I think word of mouth will be very important for this game, similarly to how it was for The Order. If Bloodborne reviews strongly / gets solid word of mouth that can carry it a long way. Especially for the types of people that buy PS4 specifically for exclusive games. After The Order people are wanting something to fill that void.

I'm not gonna give any kind of prediction on it yet. I want to see how everything pans out.

Thanks! Will be interesting to see what happens with Bloodborne for sure, have to assume the budget was lower than The Order seeing how From have been going all these years without their games selling big numbers. And the post by Robert at Zeboyd Games is brutal, if they do shut down it will be such a shame considering how good their PSP games were. The Order is gonna go down for me as the mother of all fuck ups, like Sony were filled with a false sense of hope when RAD made awesome PSP games but Sony didn't realise that the studio were not capable of making a game from ground up, making the gameplay mechanics from scratch etc. Their tech team at least is beyond amazing, the design team need to have a look at themselves though.

I think Bloodborne is going to do really well. Better than MH4 simply due to how successful the PS4 is. I think MH4 got propped a bit by the new 3DS launch but the series has actually always had this sales potential as well. Anyone who invested some time in it would know.

It was hyped by people who played it with teams, which is the ideal condition where it shines. It has a high learning curve and doesn't have easy to get into appeal like a lot of shooters lately.

I never said Sony is desperate for anything.

And yes, there are consumers who have purchased a PS4 for the sole reason of playing exclusive content. They are nowhere near the majority of the user base, but they exist.

I'm glad Evolve did well. I know people are rightfully upset with the DLC thing, but it is a fun game and I hope we get a sequel that improves on the formula and adds more content.

Also, I'm ecstatic about Zelda and MH4U sales. Especially MH4U sales, I hope the franchise gets more and more popular in the west.

Im kinda surprised the Order is so low. I still expected it to land in the upper half of the chart in such a weak month for new releases.

Yeah with all the upcoming games I cant imagine a price drop for a long time.

yeah but also it is not expensive for its value. the xbone's price was frowned upon because it was widely known that it is less powerful than the ps4 and it only has a camera which didn't add anything, and even at par it wasn't selling. no one is questioning the wii u's and ps4's prices because people feel their prices are fit for the things that the systems offer. a ps4 at 349 would be considered a deal, the xbone at 349 was what people felt the value the console should be.

then again, even if it is less powerful i imagine it being as expensive as a ps4 in terms of manufacturing costs. that die is most likely not cheap because of how it is designed.

Baffled at the Evolve sales, I haven't seen anyone talking about that game, other than for its DLC shenanigans.
We do not actually know if those are great sales. Titanfall sold more than that just on Xbox One, which was only on the market for four months at the time.

I think the silver lining on the game is that 2K picked it up for cheap. I doubt the expectations are on par with what an Activision or EA shooter would be forecasted to sell.

Vague month is vague month. The only thing even generating controversy right now is SKU combinations.

Bloodborne is going to do gangbusters. 500k in its first month is conservative.

Good month for Xbox One but their PR is pretty laughably bad lol. Sony has got to be disappointed that The Order didn't do better considering the only other retail release was Evolve for the month.

This is all absolutely true, but I think my point still stands about the way both titles were covered by the press. I made a poor choice of word in my original post saying "critics", when I really should have specified I meant media outlets in general and the way they hype games in the lead-up to release/review.

Compared to the expectations that it was going to provide MS with an instant "win" this generation, it most certainly failed to meet the performance hype it was showered with.

No reasonable person thought it was going to give MS an auto win for the gen. A couple insane expectations do not represent the majority. Most people thought it would be a nice exclusive for MS that could move some units, but not much more than that.
