NPD Sales Results for October 2014 [Up3: All of Nintendo's 3DS million sellers]

As someone who only has a ps4, I kinda wish the xbox would start winning these for a bit, Sony needs a wake up kick in the butt, I feel they have been coasting ever since MS handed them the generation with the original xboxone concept presentation, meanwhile I see MS lately in try hard mode releasing cool games and fancy next gen looking OS features left and right. Might be a bit of a case of the grass looking greener on the other side though.

Sony's only issue is OS

The games are spread out nicely over 2015 amd 2016 will likely have big titles from MM and GG Id think

2014 has been a slack year though, but dev cycles fall where they fall, its not like sony isnt trying

I too am surprised at that since it sold really well in the U.K.

It sold okay it dropped from first position to eighth in a week. It will be out of the top 10 next week.

It sold poorly overall in Europe and the bundle is still widely available, which is sad because Ratchet games sell better in Europe.

Well it's a good thing Evil Within charted considering its apparently ridiculous marketing budget. That game was EVERYWHERE for a few weeks.

Sony has an event in December you should probably watch.

Bayonetta was never going to chart.

It's a shame but also expected. The game could be freaking amazing (and it damn sure was) but no matter how amazing, it would never chart.

What is it with Plaitnum games that for some reason don't sell? Just why? (Besides Metal Gear Rising but probably the name alone got the sales XD)

Sony and Microsoft should both be ashamed.

Neither DriveClub nor Sunset could beat Knack lol.

Generation Defining. Where is the Knack GOTY Edition?

Sounds like a reasonable opening to me considering there was also (an admittedly limited) bundle

Good result, we'll see how it worked out with the next month.
Maybe we will get some numbers than.

Tremendous overperform for The Evil Within.

I feel ZeniMax has really gotten very good at launching hard to market games, and often gets them way above expectations.

The really did a good job at the marketing department.
I can't speak for the US, but they really did a good job in Germany.
Combining TV spots with popular series like The Walking Dead.
Usually advertisements on that level are reserved to really big blockbuster titles like CoD.

So I'm not really suprised here, allthough I didn't expect the game to sell so well.

Not surprised about Sunset Overdrive or Drive Club. It seems increasingly likely that the biggest games published this year by Sony and Microsoft will be games from previous years. PS4 hardware just keeps on rolling.

I don't really see what an SO2 would offer though. Its the type of game that does what its trying to do with the first offering.

4 or maybe even 8 player co-op for the whole city is one thing that I could see being added.

They have a very, very good base to build on with the game.

Is the evil within any good on ps4? I heard its performance was pretty bad. Should be getting it early next week right beside GtaV. Gonna be a great week :).

Damn shame about Sunset, although I really think the XO was the wrong console for something so brightly coloured and silly, so I'm not hugely surprised either.

I am surprised by how big a drop destiny had and the fact it sold more on the Xboxes. Maybe bundles made up the difference, but given the co-marketing and general lack of exposure for the last gen versions, im still shocked.

Biggest disappointments are the lack of charting for Alien Isolation and Bayonetta 3 though. Those damned well deserved a huge amount of success, and I'd hate to see such games become even rarer because of their low sales.

I'm impressed with how Pre-Sequel did. Expected that to tank.
Well, there are still a lot of people who only own last-gen systems, and still quite a few who are likely to be willing to play on one as long as it is something they really want to play.

We're talking about the filler game follow-up to a 10 million unit title, so there's a large addressable market even if it's not a full fledged sequel or on next-gen platforms.

I'm kind of thinking PS4/Xbox One hardware sales are a bit closer than the almost 2x sales from previous months. They usually mention the ratio in sales if it's decent.

I am really surprised at Sunset. Even with the Bundle of Sunset it did not beat the PS4 hardware that month.
Limited bundle and pre price drop. Sunset was 9 by SKU they say. To top 10 means it would have to sell better then all the platforms the top 10 sold on

Yep, on launch week it sold the most of any individual SKU although bundled games are counted. However for a new I.P coming above FIFA, it sold well. And it still remained in the top 10 during week 2 when COD launched.
Wasn't fifa in it's 4 or 5 weeks when sunset come so it's dosn't mean a lot i think someone in uk chart thread sid it sold between 20k and 70k

Yea, and I also tried to indicate how well Destiny was doing overall on XBX in a thread earlier this month and I got ripped to shreds for some reason ::shrug::

Some people just don't want to see.
People don't want to believe there are millions enjoying the game, they can't fathom it.

Curious to know how many copies sold digitally on x1 and ps4 though

Smh at having to 'sort by sku' just to get sunset to chart

If you have a x1 and not playing sunset, trade in your broken MCC and go pick that gem up

The Evil Within being #3 is incredible. So so glad it did well for Tango.

A small dish of crow for everyone that thought it'd be the biggest bomb of the year.

Congratulations on Smash, Nintendo.

I'm kind of surprised that Skylanders on Wii U did better than a lot of other platforms.

Depending on how conservative that "over 75% is" PS4+XB1 could be something like 325K (70.5% up gen/gen, also yikes) or something like 450K (73% up).

I think the limit would be like 74%, since PR-speak would probably turn that into "almost 75%."

I found these interesting.

Funny how the 360 owners are jumping on Destiny, really shows how the core FPS market was on that system.

Also, the 3DS version of Skylanders did really poorly. I didn't expect to see the Wii U version so high, and I guess looking at the wii sales, we can almost deduce that it's the only thing left selling on wii. The 360 probably moved over half the units for this game.

Not terribly surprising to see 360 SKU do well. Current gen will dominate for the first month but last gen will sell more in the long tale due to install base for a while.

I don't really see what an SO2 would offer though. Its the type of game that does what its trying to do with the first offering.

As much as I loved SO, I'm not sure I would need it to be a series that got regular sequels, but theres definitely more they can do. The online multiplayer is a bit barebones, in my opinion, theres a lot they could do (including online co-op) in a sequel.

Its difficult to know how the game did without a budget and actual numbers from any chart, but I doubt MS or Insomniac thought it would sell like all these cross-gen games did, I suspect it did well and I think/hope it has.

Phil Spencer already commented on sales on Major Nelsons podcast a week or two ago and was happy, I don't see any bomba here personally.

Not again with the "only x days" thing like with that Bayo thread derailing during 10 pages pls.

Games are mostly frontloaded, 5 days is usually enough to see the launch impact. And part of the sales of the game were also bundled so there is that too. The game wouldn't have sold 2x if it launched a week earlier.
