Sick.
Really sick.
But then again, Catholics don't really follow the Bible, IMO. I don't know where they get half the stuff the believe.

Christians.... tsk tsk..... how did I know?

1) I can't believe you're allowed to get away with blatantly trolling a RELIGION!
2) These are only Christians if you consider Osama Bin Laden to be a Muslim

:lol

EDIT: If that wasn't a joke I'd argue that they don't live like Christ lived. They don't even try. When Jesus fed the 5000 men and their families... when he did it with the 3000... did he say "ONLY IF YOU FOLLOW ME WILL YOU EAT!"? Of course not.

because most protestants don't think catholics are christians.

I think Catholics, if their core belief if that belief in Christ's sacrifice will save you, are saved.
Those catholics that get hung up in baseless religious ceremony instead of having a heart level relationship with Christ... I don't think they are Christians.

Thats sad. Where you find this offbeat news piece? I was sure we'd be knee deep by now discussing a 67 year old woman's right to have a child that could have quite a less the healthy life.

Says the guy arbitrarily assuming these nuns were Catholic.

What exactly would they have to do to convert?

Villager: "God is great!" *eats food* "Hahaha tricked you! God isn't great!"

Villager: "God is great!" *eats food* "Hahaha tricked you! God isn't great!"

*Food spontaneously becomes maggots in villager's stomach that begins to eat his internal organs - Nun laughs villianously in the background*

Seriously though, it's pretty fucking despicable to place conditions on aid during such a crisis (or even in general-- people who are charitable shouldn't only be so in order to spread a message, regardless of their religious persuasion). That's not a Christian thing to do, and I know this because, well, I'm a Christian, and I would never conceive of doing such a thing.

If you want to proselytize, you do it when people are at their BEST, and can make informed decisions whichever way (I'm not fond of proselytization in general, just making a point), not when they're compromised in some way.

Ugh.
Guys, speaking as a Christian, I'd like to point out that I cringe at this news too. And I'm not the only one.

Echoing Loki...
Spreading the gospel should NEVER be an exploitation of a person's mental/physical/emotional weakness.

Also, please note that they are plenty (if not most) Christian aid organizations that are NOT DISCRIMINATING like this. For example, World Vision.
So save your "That's why religion suxxxx!!!!!1111" for another day, please.

This shit annoys the piss out of me. I know many christians wouldn't advocate these kinds of actions, but there're obviously some who do. Why can't they just help them out because they're fellow humans? I'm sure that's what Jesus would've done.

I don't know which is more rediculous: The nuns trading food for conversion or Oli's diatribe about who's the true Christian.

Both just help to illustrate why I can't stand Christianity and other established religions.

You don't like that I think a Christian is one who believes in Christ's sacrifice and tries to live by the example Christ set?

I swear, dude, Jesus is cooler than this.

Most christians only agree on the former. The other part is an afterthought. But Saying Catholics aren't Christian is absurd. They're the oldest group of christians around.

By that criteria, there are tons of self proclaimed Christians that fall owefully short. Including you.

Hey Oli, why don't you respond to my post above. How can you have a stance against people knocking Christianity when you came in here and unjustly started bashing Catholicism? You're the one reading the article and jumping to conclusions and assumptions while making gigantic generalizations.

Everything you say is just filled with hypocrasy, it's disgusting.

uh that's like saying someone is not American because they don't fit into a preconceived idea of how Americans should act (behaviour-wise, not simply what the citizenship papers say)

Really, isn't a Christian someone who follows Christian teachings? Of course interpretations may be different, but what makes your interpretation correct?

As a child of religious Catholics you're generalisations are quite wrong. Symbolism is used in the Church to show the emotional attatchment to God in a physical form. This takes form in ceremonies and in particular acts of piety and charity in day to day life. Vatican II did a lot you know.

The first and probably the last time you'll see me defend the Catholic Church.

The whole "You're not christian, I'm christian" debate is fucking stupid. If you believe Christ to be the son of god and the savior of man, then you're a christian. Everything else is sectarian bickering.

Thats crazy. Nevertheless, its not fair to generalize all the christian missionaries, and other christian aid groups with these guys. This seems like an isolated incident.

The precise nature of the example that Christ set is not uncontroversial.

The sad truth is, there probably is a passage in the Bible which these missionaries can rely on.
