NVidia announces 512MB Geforce 6

Jeez, by the time any games actually really utilize that much video RAM, we'll be talking about the next-next-generation of cards. Doom 3 at it's highest settings doesn't even run that much better on a 512 MB card. And two of them in SLI would still equal 512; each card has to duplicate all the textures and such.

Ya, there's really no game ATM that needs GeForce 6 with 512 MB. Total waste of money. Besides, when Unreal 3 hits the stores you're going to need a GF7 anyway. Now a GF7 with 1GB of RAM makes me warm inside :)

512 RAM + 512 RAM = 512 RAM with SLI. They don't add up.

My SLI comment wasn't directly in reference to the RAM, though I didn't seperate them very well, granted :) I was just saying imagine generally two of those cards in SLI..

You won't need it, at least not according to Mark Rein (he said at GDC that Geforce 6s should be fine for UE3). But will you want a GF7/X900? Yes..

I'm imaging the call to the electrician to have him install the computer outlet on it's own circuit.

I wonder what kind of hardware was running the Unreal Engine 3 demo at GDC. Surely must have been an FX-55/6800 Ultra SLI rig.

Im willing to bet it was a 6800 ultra.. given their "the way its meant to be played" all over everything.

Play Half Life 2 on maximum and the texture memory usage never goes above 70 MB! My 9700 pro is the last graphics card I will need for my PC, when next gen consoles hit there will be no point upgrading.

seriously, i'm gonna save this quote... people always say this and it has yet to be true for more than a few months... hell i said this when i got my N64!!!... plus PC gaming is a totally different beast...

I'm about to blow some serious cash on building a new PC. A64 4000+, 6800 Ultra (SLI later on) ... the whole works. I'm fully aware of the technology in the upcoming consoles, but like Potatoe said, PC gaming is totally different.
