Of course the 2 questions are
how much does it cost?
Can you actually get one at release?

Guys - I need a recommendation. In the market for a very high end gaming machine/workstation. I can get 10940x for $700 at Microcenter. Would you still recommend getting 10900k?
It will be a completely new build so I don’t. I assume the x299 mobos will also be discounted since it’s last gen. I don’t plan to do many upgrades down the line. Just want the highest end components today for a good deal + 3090. The 10940x for $700 is a good deal no?Do you have mobo for that?
Get 5900x
That's my guess as well. Admittedly from my point of view $400 for a card that's probably about as good as a 2080 super seems like a pretty decent deal. Not as good as a 3080 or 6800xt but given the price not a bad trade off.- 400$
- Most likely not LOL
If you want the highest end, then you want the 5900x or 5950x for best performance. It will be a completely new build so I don’t. I assume the x299 mobos will also be discounted since it’s last gen. I suggest you look into a Ryzen 5900x for productivity. If you absolutely need more cores then go with a Ryzen 5950x.It will be a completely new build so I don’t. HEDT has been made completely obsolete by Ryzen. It will be a completely new build so I don’t. I assume the x299 mobos will also be discounted since it’s last gen. Wtf Nvidia...

Boy oh boy, I'm ready for Cyberpunk!
So true. Right now I want to stay positive though! It's not a question of whether You're ready, but is the game ready....A game as big and as complex as CP 2077 is going to need a huge amount of post release work to fix all the inevitable bugs.
I ordered a new PC for my son.
I9 10900F, 16 Gb (2 X 8gb G skill aegis) of ram and a 3070.
Motherboard, MSI Z490 A-pro
Fan , Dark rock 4.
500gb nvme SSD + 2tb HDD
Corsair 750w power supply.
3080 is just too fucking expensive right now.
it should be good enough for 1440p 120fps, I think.
or do you think a 3080 is needed?
Prebuilt? If not, swap that intel out for an AMD 5600X. Otherwise, good for 1440p. 120fps, maybe.I ordered a new PC for my son.

For 1440p? Nope... at least for next ~2 years (maybe vram will become the problem).
Too bad you had to go Intel, no Zen 3 cpus?
In the Techpowerup review, the 3070 averages 125 FPS at 1440p:I ordered a new PC for my son.

Thanks, well he plays only multiplayer games like COD, valorant, CS, Apex.In the Techpowerup review, the 3070 averages 125 FPS at 1440p:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition Review - Disruptive Price-Performance
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3070 is faster than the RTX 2080 Ti, for $500. The new FE cooler is greatly improved, runs very quietly, and even has fan stop. In our RTX 3070 Founders Edition review, we'll also take a look at RTX performance, energy efficiency, frametimes, and overclocking.www.techpowerup.com
However, already in cross-gen games like WD:L and AC:V, it drops into the 70s or below at max settings. So you will likely need to reduce the settings and/or enable DLSS for 120 FPS.
Holy shit. That's nuts.Wtf Nvidia...

if you're going for framerate above all, just knock down a few settings in a couple years. The power of 3070 is great right now but in order to run console-level settings on AAA games at 100fps+, the performance of the 3070 is going to be the bigger constraining factor than the VRAM (aka, you're never going to get 100fps+ at pc high/ultra on those titles in two years anyway, whether you have the VRAM or not). It's a fine choice. I'm going to be doing the same, albeit target 4k 100fps+ with my 4k 120hz monitor and 3080
Most PC owners will be flogging their 10/20xx cards to upgrade so I guess we'll probably be getting a 3080 for 100-200 less than the rrp.
Sweet.
There’s no reason for him to do that if he already ordered/has the 10900. The 10900 will give him great gaming performance.Prebuilt? If not, swap that intel out for an AMD 5600X. Otherwise, good for 1440p. 120fps, maybe.
It’s just 100€ less for an i7 and really more than 100€ more for a 3080.I'd swap the CPU for something cheaper and get the 3080 instead, like i7 or something, those extra 2 cores won't give you a single FPS more, as oppose a beefier GPU.
Have you experienced a significant performance boost?I am such a dumbass. Sold my TUF 3080 and got this
Have you experienced a significant performance boost?
Ok, I didn't know that? Which is why I asked himHow could he? It's the same GPU just with 20% more active cores that translate to over 10% more game performance. But in VRAM department it's much better, at least until (cheaper) 3080ti arrives.
Can't really go wrong with either 3080 or 3090. As long as it's not 3070.I am such a dumbass. Sold my TUF 3080 and got this

How high are people seeing their 3080's boosting w/o overclocking? I've been noticing my evga has been jumping up as high as 1995mhz, which is a nice bump over advertised.

Fucking hell, you weren't kidding! I tried this right now and the noise levels are way down. Thanks a lot for the tip!Undervolting the 3080 is an absolute no-brainer. I capped mine at 800mv and 1800 mhz. Essentially zero performance decrease (maybe 2-3 FPS?) and now it draws 250w MAX under full load. Stays under 70c with auto fan settings. Quiet as hell. Seems Nvidia screwed up with default settings on these.
