WE JUST LEARNED that Nvidia taped out its next-generation graphics chip codenamed G70.

Whispers say that it's in good shape and that the first silicon is up and running nicely. Our pro-Nvidia sources believe that it will end up faster than ATi's R520, but ATiers will pooh-pooh that claim, for sure.

We don't have much information about specifics but we strongly believe that the G70 will be released very close to the R520's shipping date.

And we're told that this should happen sometime in the autumn but we don't always believe what we're told. Shipping and announcement dates have slipped too many times in the past so we like to take a large portion of salt with our regurgitations. Engineering is hard work and is very unpredictable.

We will fill you in when we learn more. µ

G70 is probably not Nvidia's true next-gen chip which would be NV5x. In all likelyhood G70 is a beefy NV4x based chip.

Very probable, although nothing's certain now, especially with all the codename shuffling that's gone on recently at NVidia.

There's a rumour going around that R520 will not only be announced on May 10th.. but also released on the same goddamn day.. that would throw just a slight wrench into Nvidia's plans, especially if pro-nvidia sources are saying "it should be better than ATIs". :X

that's true, so that's why I was careful not to say anthing absolute. It is possible that G70 is an NV4x GPU and G80 is an NV5x GPU

It's also possible that both G70 and G80 are just NV4x GPUs

and it's also somewhat possible that G70 and G80 are both NV5x GPUs.


is G70 or more likely G80, similar in any way to the PS3 GPU, who knows. it's possible that they are related, or totally unrelated. too little info is known
