I hope it's real.
The screen looks fine, it looks almost exactly like my Vita does in incandescent light
I think someone posted that the Tactus patent mentions Nintendo. I'll look it upIs there any corroboration at all to these Tactus suggestions? Any? It just sounds like a lot of people thinking it would be cool, but why would anyone think this would be the place we'd see it?
I really can't imagine this is it. It defeats the purpose of not using buttons, and from looking at the screen there isn't that kind of stuff there.
Never seen this before. Very interesting. My only concern would be the cost factor. I would imagine implementing this tech into a controller/handheld would be expensive.
Maybe this phone is #teamfakeNot all screens are the same. The NX screens are supposedly the freeform display tech from Sharp, which haven't seen much commercial use yet. But for that matter, here's another Sharp screen (Aquos Crystal smartphone):

Has a very similar black, highly reflective look to it.
Obviously can't prove this is a legit leak, but don't think the screen is what would out it if it were fake.
The design is from Nintendo patents. It's not even remotely "left field"

Tactics isn't free form, it's only in certain areas.. . . The purpose of not using buttons is to allow free form interfaces. The purpose of using that is to give them the same tactile feel as a button.
How does that defeat the purpose???
ooooh. this thread is fun.
I could make that phone in five minutes. Believe me, I could. Confirmed fake. Not all screens are the same. The NX screens are supposedly the freeform display tech from Sharp, which haven't seen much commercial use yet. But for that matter, here's another Sharp screen (Aquos Crystal smartphone):

The fact that the original photo has been around for days now is enough proof for me. No one has been able to debunk it. Not that photo, and not the new photos. No signs of photoshop, no other obvious signs of fakery.
I know some people will continue refusing to accept it until Nintendo makes it official, but come on. Perfect fakes don't exist.

Here's a shot of a vita. It's bad quality but you can still see the screen internals light up. Notice that the screens don't actually look 'black' when lit up, they have a lighter shade.
The color of the 'NX' screen is the same exact color and reflectiveness of the plastic casing of the WiiU controller.
It's like that speech Gordon gives Batman in the Dark Knight. You use guns they buy bullet-proof vests...
The general populace become too clever for regular photoshop fakes? 3D printing baby.
The square is the screen itself, the black around it is... Not screen, bezel. The screen and the bezel are colored different and have different reflective properties. But with the NX, the ENTIRE face of the controller is a screen, so of course there's no "square" or anything inside it since that entire glass front is one consistent screen with the same reflective properties.
I mean seriously, is this what people are resorting to now? I'm not entirely sure it's REAL, but the deniers are really grasping at straws to desperately try and prove it's fake :S
The Wii U had two pieces of plastic before the LCD because it uses ancient touch tech, people. It's going to glow under light compared to today's displays.
The LCD is not the fight to be had.
Well, I didn't exclude that possibility. Backlit & printed acrylic sounds like a reasonable explanation, actually, and somewhat sophisticated for a fake. Why does it have to be displaying anything versus something printed on?
Have you seen the UE4 demo gif? That is, IMO, the most damning evidence of all that it's fake.
yeah but you notice how it reflects light in a bluish haze in the image.

The leaker needs to start using a coaster.
HmmmAnother interesting perspective on Reddit from a "former nintendo qa tester". May or may not be true, idk what to believe anymore.

^There ya' go. Took me under an hour, and I could send it to a 3D printer with a few minutes of extra prep. Then it's just a matter of inserting a screen, or photoshopping reflections onto the 3D printed chassis.
But...like I said, that doesn't mean it isn't real. But it's simple enough that it's really, really easy to produce, if someone had enough motivation.
Will be interesting to see how this turns out.
There are plenty of ways for them to be different without removing tactile input.

Life is pointless
actually this brings up a good point i hadn't considered - the controller should/would be connected pretty hard to the actual dev kit. there are 3ds units out there that don't need to be, so maybe this is a test unit, or maybe even something from a design firm nintendo outsourced? i'm not sure. it's possible this is the actual consumer-ready version if that's the case. at least with wii u and 3ds, nintendo bolts everything down.
I mean he's right, that thing wouldnt be on some dude's table next to his WiiU gamepad, he that thing would be strapped and bolted down so nobody could take it with it being extremely hard for anyone to take pictures of it without being caught, and even if he successfully managed to get pictures and get it out of whatever facility if he posted these online, it should be incredibly easy to track him down.
Early Wii U devkits GamePad did have some kind of monstrous cable connecting it to the console.
This... actually brings up a VERY good point.
