NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

Independently if this is real or not, Nintendo should just freaking speak about it. This kind of leaks are hurting the image of Nintendo.

All children play comfortably on iPads and tablets so well done to Nintendo for thinking outside the box for this in such a way. I'm sure many people will enjoy the console.

They need gimmicks as they will not compete in the same space as the PS4 (hell even the One isn't competing!).

It looks uncomfortable but Nintendo always peak my interest.

I imagine that if Nintendo is seriously chasing this route, that they've done extensive testing and are probably more concerned with high level of precision and making it viable for gaming than apple ever was
Of course. Nintendo are a game company and have been one for much longer than apple's foray into gaming.

They have a similar tech already. iPhone's force touch is capable of detecting presses and giving feedback in specific areas of the screen. I'm talking more about being able to locate the buttons while still looking up at your game. It's second nature with physical buttons bc we can feel where the controller is raised and the shape of the button. With haptics, it's only going to activate with a press which first requires you to press down...and in the case of a controller, you'd need to press down in a specific area. So until you press down, the entire area will feel smooth like a screen giving you no tactile feedback to locate the "button."

I mean, this can still easily work if the buttons are close together and provide a clear response as long as you're holding a finger to them. Since you'll probably be able to get the general location of buttons via stick down very quickly with muscle memory, it now just becomes an issue of how precise the screen is. So it will depend on the level of sensitivity to touch the screen is capable of, as well as the essential resolution of the haptic responses

Am I too late?

I still want to say its a handheld. Even though people say its the controller for the console. But I don't think that disproves that its not the handheld which can also act as the controller.

So first floor then? Because the trees in that one pic don't seem to be that tall.

Yep, the angle makes sense to me if it's the first floor (maybe possibly the second, but it would be a weird angle).

3rd party is going to be dead on this thing isn't it?

To be real, was it ever not going to be?

That's not what they're about. Apparently it's:

Make a gimmicky ass system-->Make it considerably weaker than the competition-->Shun 3rd party developers-->Pump out a few (like, 2 or 3) first party titles that actually take advantage of gimmicky ass hardware-->Be happy with last place (?)

I really, REALLY hope this is not true.

No face buttons is such a ridiculous idea. Even if it has haptic touch buttons it wouldnt come close to actual buttons.

Also, the ergonomics seems to be so bad.

Why cant Nintendo just make a traditional console anymore? These gimmicks got old the moment they announced Wii U.

If this is indeed true... then this company really has no clue about anything in this industry.

But the image itself is a reflection, so flip it once to see the correct view of the tree from inside the building, flip it again to try to see how it may look like from the other side of the street.

yeah... flip it the second time to try overlaying it on the second image... right?

I have no words. I'll buy a NX because I like Nintendo games, but this has the potential to bomb harder than WiiU (which honestly had a pretty traditional controller in comparison). Nintendo pls :(

Wii U controller was a reversion to Dual Shocky standards and it put everyone to sleep and became their biggest console flop.

Wii U controller also had that big ass screen in the middle that was supposed to be used regularly in games.

DS4 has a touch screen and the PS4 is selling like hotcakes.

One was focal point, (or supposed to be one) one wasnt.

You guys do realize why they chose not to have any buttons right?

Even implimenting iPhone 6 haptic feedback touchscreen controls.

Nintendo know that kids born today most likely have never played any games apart from their smartphones.

So in order to tap into this market they need to have a controller that is dumbed down for these kids else they will not know how to play a game with buttons. They are used to touchscreen only input. The barrier Nintendo feels is too high.

Also by having no buttons they can easily import games onto their smartphones rather then develop for two different control inputs. Nintendo doesn't care about the man child fans of the NES days. They want to recapture the kids market again.

I refuse to believe that kids these days are too idiotic to handle a controller with buttons.

I don't know why I keep hoping that Nintendo will just release a console with a traditional controller.

I'm not a fan of this design, but will hold judgement until I see the retail product and get more information.
The gamepad had all the buttons you could want and also had a more traditional controller.

They were never going to buy Nintendo console anyway. Some of these guys look for any excuse they can.

I was planning to buy nx and ye lack of buttons literally turns me of entirely after owning the steam controller after awhile I sold it so I understand haptic touch, I hate touch buttons in general.

so don't jump to conclusions on some of us saying we were never gonna buy it in the first place.

I hope its real because whilst not excited I am intrigued and people don't seem to react without ridiculous emotions so I think it'll be more fun if its true.
That's just evil :/
I'll buy an NX no matter what and I'm sure the first party games are awesome but if this is true then the dream scenario where Nintendo wins back their lost third party support won't ever come true. There will be zero multiplat games on that thing unless we're talking about mobile touch games. I just can't see how any regular core game can work on that controller. :(

I wouldn't mind this so much if it was the design for their handheld console and not a controller for a home console.

Think it could have adaptable tactus style buttons like this?

tactusgif.gif

Not sure how expensive that would be or how well it works but if they can do this and it feels good, I would be fine with no traditional buttons. Otherwise, buttons are needed.

I can't think of anything less "nintendo" than replacing buttons, considering how their games are designed around consistent inputs. If this is real it means they basically have no idea what the fuck is going on.

I dunno man I think I'm gonna go with Nintendo's R&D department over the opinion of...uh...Coffee Dog from NeoGAF on this one for now.

Arrgh! The one fucking time I had to go to the courthouse to do a lis pendens search this shit happens?!? 26 fucking pages to go through?!? Argghh!

Fucking uncontrollable hype here, Jesus Christ it's happening!

yeah... flip it the second time to try overlaying it on the second image... right?

And you find.... nothing!!!
That's it, we've done it GAF!!

It doenst take into account that we may have the tree from a diferent, non 180° angle, so it may not be posible to solve

This is really a 'need to feel' scenario for me. The haptic buttons need to feel real, and the scroll wheel buttons hopefully dont just feel like standard clicky mouse ones, need me some analog triggers.
Final version also desperately needs hand grips.

Looks cool for a handheld. It will need an adapter with physical buttons to work for the console. I actually like it but I insist that screen is going to unnecessarily inflate the price like the Wii U pad did

I love how Nintendo's continued silence on NX has ultimately meant nothing now the controller's leaked.

It looks pretty slick and stylish, but practically I'm not sure how it's going to work.
