NX launching in March to make sure there are games to go along with it

Ah, "Games." It's a shame Nintendo is beholden to this mysterious and powerful force known as "Games." Where do "Games" come from? By what mechanism does the hand of fate choose their release? I suppose it's understandable that Nintendo was forced to delay the NX for reasons beyond their control.
 
Here we go again with massive software droughts of the current console for games only to be moved to the upcoming console which are never ready for the launch window.

Talk is cheap. There is no way this thing is launching in March.

They never learn it seems.

It's not like whatever Sony and Microsoft announce will suddenly disappear after the E3. There will be new games announced with versions for them. There is a good chance that one of them will launch around the time NX will be finally revealed. It doesn't matter if Nintendo wants it or not, comparisons will be made.

Nintendo had a chance to play on its own turf only if they were able to reveal NX before Sony and Microsoft reveal their plans. Now they are on the same field, fighting for the ball. Nintendo running on the sideline doesn't change the game.
 
So this means that Nintendo jumped the gun announcing a new console which wasn't the least bit ready for prime time yet, when announced. Not only did they completely killed the console's already low sales (WiiU) ahead of time, but also left a big hole in their software line-up until 2017.

The logic made sense because they just gave out dev kits in March. Nintendo should have given it earlier to developers would have more time.
At least we know Zelda will be mostly done in Nov. so they can bug test it.

Nintendo is a publicly traded company. When they announced they were making mobile games, they made their shareholders wonder what their strategy was going forward, and had to address that by saying that they were committed to creating new hardware. To be believed, they also announced the codename of it. This was the only thing they could do in their situation.

Nintendo announced too many things to investors to maybe keep them happy.....that now look to be way ahead or hardly in the oven for when they said it - Nx and QOL which were first talked about more than a fiscal year ahead.

It sounds like a schoolboy exaggerating why his homework was not done to a teacher.

They will be fine though, mobile will sell allot.
 
I wasn't too mad because of the release date, the real unforgivable move is deciding simply not to show the console at E3. It's stupid to not plan themselves properly to hit the holidays, it's a lot more stupid to miss all the advertising and exposure thr comes from E3.

It's not about what's ready for launch day, but what comes afterwards. Wii U had games at launch and then delays happened and their schedule suffered. They don't want to repeat that. So yeah, they could have games for December, and then nothing for January and February.

Think of it like this, you have three more months to put money aside for a new system and games.
 
It's going to be hilarious if come March they have 2 to 3 NX specific titles, and everything else is just Wii U ports. I don't see Nintendo changing. They will have one or two of their high profile titles release in a given month because they don't want them competing with each other for sales.

That would be a perfectly fine launch. I'm hoping NX is coming in March because Nintendo wants the post-launch to actually contain some software. The Wii U's first nine months were abysmal.

The first port by Nintendo for WiiU was The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, released one year after the WiiU launch. So what you propose would be by definition a change.

Are you mixing them up with a different company?

They want Nintendo to be more like, and Nintendo potentially might do this with concerning hd remasters/ports of last gen games to pad a launch period, and suddenly that isn't good anymore.

No, competitors could steal the "unique" ideas.

Perhaps they realized 3rd parties aren't interested and now they are rushing to create cheap average-quality games like Star Fox Zero or Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival. The rumors about ports of Splatoon, Smash Bros., and Mario Maker as well as the delay of Pikmin 4 and Zelda U already give reason to worry.

I'm in the same boat. A few extra months wouldn't have made much difference for Wii U. Its post-launch drought lasted nearly a year IIRC, with Lego City Undercover being the only significant release during a ~10 month period.

I don't see how 3-4 months is going to make a big difference. If they are delaying their system just to only launch with a couple of new titles and ports people may have already played, then I don't see that as a reason to delay anything. That kind of lineup sounds like the typical console launch. I can't believe they couldn't have 2 new games and ports of Smash and Splatoon by the end of the year. This delay makes me wonder if 1) third parties are not on board with this so Nintendo can't release a console with just their own games or 2) There's some sort of issue with hardware manufacturing.

Building some kind of infrastructure, for one. As sad/pathetic as it is to say, 3 years ago, Nintendo didn't have a server-side account system.

Nintendo is not a very efficient company. How do you make them more efficient? I dunno.
 
Something is tellint to me most of the games will be WiiU ports like "Sm4sh complete edition", Splatoon and ZeldaU.
 
How long would it take to develop a game like witcher 3?
A big company maybe work 3years on it.

Nintendo have to make maybe 10 X 2(handheld,console) games within 3 years, So I understand that it would be diffecult to bring good games in a short time.



Looking at blizzard, it will take them even 10y for one game.


Just saying, maybe we need to be a bit more understandable :)

It's a good article. And things are preferred to be done late but well, than earlier but badly.

And I have the impression Kimishima is putting a bit of order and encourage patience and to not give in to the external pressures. That's good.

Yeah, no way they are moving to the money-drain that is PS4-development when the smartphone market is so much cheaper to develop for, and also heavily populated by customers Nintendo was able to reach just a few years ago. A Nintendo that doesnt produce their own hardware, will probably be a Nintendo that also doesnt produce the games we love the most about them anymore.

To take the last thing first, Im sure they "will be fine", but the Nintendo we know and love wont be fine if mobile becomes their primary income method, because it means there is no longer any point for them to produce stuff like Metroid or Pikmin og Splatoon on the consoles. This might be a profitable Nintendo, but it wont be the Nintendo that we, the fans, know and love. And about the investors, I dont think they announced it to make the investors happy. To me it seems that a big number of their investors actually wants Nintendo to drop hardware and go completely mobile, which is what they ended up doing partially. They announced that there was a new console coming to make it clear that they where not conceding completely. Basically it was the mobile initiative that was to make shareholders happy, not the console announcement.

It's entirely possible they could have. We don't know.

Also, four months could make a big difference. If Nintendo has a solid launch lineup ready for 2016 but their next wave of games wouldn't be ready until March or April, by pushing the launch back to March, you now have more games ready to go and can have a more consistent lineup throughout the year.

If the March release really does have to do with software, I'm fine with NX missing the holiday. I'm still not ok with it missing E3 this year though.

Ugh, that is what EVERY console launch typically has.

2 or 3 first party games and ports.

What's important is what they have 2-4 months after launch to keep the hype train going.
 
I still think that there are some hardware issues, not software related. Otherwise this E3 absence doesn't make sense. You can still show trailers for unfinished games, but you can't show hardware that can't be final because some last minute issue.

It may just be them wanting to keep the secret the longest they can. Since their surprise is so huge it seems (Honestly if it's the Portable/Home console connection... someone should tell them everyone knows about it already!)

Sounds more like manufacturing issues to me.
There would have been massive shortages during X-Mas.

This way they can sell to the hardcore Nintendo fans in March and have time to prepare for the next holiday season.
 
I'm just confused what Nintendo's big holiday games for this year will be. Last year was already pretty space in software department for Wii U (I can think only Splatoon, Mario Maker and XBX) which I assumed was due to emphasis for NX games. But what will they have for this year?
