NYC GAF, I am moving to your city in early July. I decided to go back to school, and I'll be spending a large amount of my time in the Greenwich Village area over the next 2 years.
Some questions that hopefully some of you could help me with:
1) Is there a good community that has readily accessible materials for a move into the city? Most of what I have found so far is pretty light on useful info and are mostly clickbait 'lists'.
2) Rank (and preferably explain why): West Village, East Village, Tribeca, Gramercy, Lower East Side, Financial District, Battery Park City, Chelsea
3) What is the best way to find no-realtor fee rentals in the city? Of course there is CraigsList, but is there a solid list of so-called "luxury apartments" anywhere? Many of them aren't so 'luxurious', but they typically prefer being approached directly and without broker. The amount you would typically pay gets put into the apartment instead.
4) Any good experiences with brokers? Any you would recommend? UrbanCompass seems to be recommended frequently to me.
5) Has anyone moved a long distance into the city (i.e. 4 hours drive, Boston to NYC)? Did you use movers? If so, what group did you use, and how was the experience?
Opinions would be greatly appreciated!
