I saw a bum drop a deuce at my local train station this week. Sucks for the MTA guy who had to clean that up.

Edit: Hey Jipan, you should get rid of Feed Your Hole from the Food Truck section. They've been out of commission for awhile now.
 
I hope this thread will be of some use for me this month. My calendar is super empty for July and I plan on filling it by checking out events/areas around the city.

I have to admit, I tried to tell myself its the best burger but I'm not really seeing it. It is pretty good though.

Checking out the list of Brooklyn parks, you should also include East River and Transmitter parks. Great views of the skyline above the Financial District. Also Fort Greene Park near downtown Brooklyn.

For restaurants, I would recommend Bamonte's, Five Leaves, Spritzenhaus, Karczma. Supposedly DiFara is the best place for pizza, haven't been myself since the hours are a little odd, and they usually have a wait.

For the other parents, Brooklyn Children's Museum is a must, took little dude there earlier this year, and he had a blast. They have a special play area for kids 5 and under.

Brooklyn Museum is also great. Their Egyptian wing is unmatched in the city.

So I haven't popped into this thread for fear that it would be horribly received but after checking it now, you guys are all chock of suggestions to add to the OP! That's pretty fantastic so thank you guys so much! I really appreciate it and please keep the suggestions coming.

I'm updating the OP with the new stuff since some of the places listed are still a bit antiquated or have expanded at the very least such as Halal Guys. I'm feeling pretty damn good about this thread being active in the long run under my watch.

Also, I saw some interest expressed for a mini 4th of July meet up tomorrow that initially began in the Online Dating thread which I'll be down to organize as I don't have any plans set for tomorrow. If anything, I'll be happy to get out the house as opposed to stay indoors like I usually have in the past. It's just a matter of picking a place and a time.

I'm currently in the middle of an internship at a bank in the financial district. Is there anywhere good and semi-cheap to eat there?

Like... any dollar pizza places, sandwich places, Mexican, etc.? I found one Chinese restaurant on Chambers St. that's normal priced, and there are also halal carts, but besides those places, I feel kind of lost in the area, food-wise, lol. Everything else seems to be ultra fancy and/or expensive, and costs more than $7 or $8 for a good lunch.

There is a bunch of food trucks/carts that congregate on Pearl Street near Hanover Square. You could try that.

I only drop by once in a blue moon during off peak hours so no lines for me.

There's a similar food truck oasis on Whitehall Street but that might be too far from where most people work...
 
That's rather far from me (I'm closer to Chambers St. on the west side) but thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely go there anyway to check it out, but I'll walk there after work instead of making a mad dash to and from during lunch.

Youre probably not going to get anything really decent for under $7 lunch. Other than halal carts, these food truck are usually 7+

I think you underestimate how much of a homebody/loser I am. :P

I do think the biggest thing I would miss is the amount of people out and about at any time of the day/night. I feel safe walking home or taking the subway at any hour.

Good timing on this OT. I'm actually going to be in NYC next week-end. I probably won't have that much time to visit though. But I'll be checking this thread for sure. It'll be my first time in the city, too. Going with 2 friends. We're staying in an AirBnB in Jersey City and we'll be commuting because they don't want to drive in NYC (I don't blame them).

Before I read the whole thread, I guess I should ask: anything I should really really know? :)

I see, well thanks. I'll still check it out, though, because I want to explore the area. (Financial District is one area in Manhattan I pretty much have never been to, outside of South Ferry.) Then there's the fact that food carts seem to secretly have some of the best food, lol.

Pretty much anything is better than 2 Bros, lol. But the place I'm referring to is actually better than some normal pizzerias. If you're in the area and want pizza and/or something inexpensive, definitely consider checking it out.

This women was drunk or high or something. She was sleeping on the train car and two cops came up and tried to get her to sit up. They got her up they left and then she got up pulled down her pants and started urinating in front of everyone. This was not just some women who had to go.

Hahaha, you're hilarious as always so it's welcome. The city does stink like garbage in places (usually from storm drains) but it's mostly in the subway where all the odd odors seem to come from. Jersey on the other hand smells god awful every time I pass through there.

The NYC subway turns into the Twilight Zone between the hours of 2AM-7AM where you see all kinds of odd but fascinating people either passed out, spouting nonsense, or the occasional lone car with one stinky person in it. Also, alcoholic drinks are consumed in styrofoam cups, paper bags, or in flasks/aluminum bottles when out in public.

Another Washington Heights native, nice. It would be funny if you work out in Planet Fitness as well. It seems like we have ton of people living up here. Can't wait for the GWB Bus Terminal to be finished so people can migrate to Blink Fitness.

I added in a social media section with the start of Yencid's Instagram account as well as my Twitter handle. Most of the suggestions have been added in addition to museums and other additions.

Oh and by the way, heads up guys, the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest is tomorrow. Weather conditions aren't looking too good though. So much for a beach day eh?

My lease is up in a little over a month or so and I need to find a new place to live. Is Craig's list the best place to find a room at a decent price?

I also am having a hard time deciding where I want to live. I love my current neighborhood but since I have to leave the option of mixing it up is appealing. I'm looking at my current area in Brooklyn (on the r), Astoria, upper Manhattan (Washington heights), other areas of Brooklyn (bushwick?). Ive heard good things about all. I'm just not sure if I should stay put or explore a new park of the city

I have a membership at Planet Fitness (The one on 177th & Broadway), haven't really used it much. I need to get off my ass and just start going. The first step is always the hardest and all that.
