NYC GAF |OT| We get around in a hole in the ground

I feel like True Lies is on everywhere after 11pm.

I've never seen it before but for a 23 year old movie, the visual style blew my mind as it holds up quite well! It looked like a cross between a soap opera mixed with a big budget action movie. When I got into the bar, there was a scene of Arnold Schwarzenegger's giving a rose to Jamie Lee Curtis' character. I didn't even know that Tia Carrere was in it as I remember her from a Tomb Raider knock-off tv show. I bet it must be a fun movie to watch buzzed.

I should also mention that one of the bartenders had a Triforce tattoo on his shoulder since we had gone to see the Breath of the Wild mural beforehand.

Anybody here ever had to fill out an IT-2104 form for their taxes? I live in NJ but commute to NYC daily, filling one out for the first time. Last year I only got taxed in NY for 6 of 52 paychecks since I didn't start working there until November.

Family issues have had me putting off my taxes every weekend and now I kinda can't put them off anymore and I'm lost haha.

I swear that Blackberry Smutnose Short Weiss was so good, I could have three of them and I would have been happy. I'm a sucker for fruity beers (not IPAs though) and that one wasn't exactly sweet by any means. Reading the Comic Book History of Beer makes me appreciate drinking beer for taste than a means to get buzzed/drunk even more. I'm looking forward to trying out Chicago's local beers although it's too bad the weather is going to suck this weekend. I'll be packing boots into my luggage.:(

Small groups are a lot more manageable, less micromanagement to do. A big GAF meetup will return soon enough though if anyone misses it. There was some discussion on potential places.

If you guys could blow my mind find out that there's a rooftop bar in Union Square, that would be great. There's loads of hidden gems in that area but I feel like it's been exhausted.

Off-topic but I find out that my first comic review that I wrote back in November was quoted by Image Comics (hint: it's the one that likens it to Drive and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World): https://imagecomics.com/content/view/cold-war-espionage-thriller-mayday-hits-paperback-this-may

I think the reason why it was included was because I brought it the creative team's attention and tagged them in the tweet with my link to the review. I've since quietly written several comic reviews left and right and shied away from tagging creators in my mostly glowing reviews. I'm not too harsh of a critic but I do offer valid critiques when I do.

Today was the commute from hell. Power outage with delays then someone gets sick so even more delays. Was over an hour late to work.
Yeah, I got caught in the heart of that, since anyone going to queens was pretty much assed out this morning. Took an hour before I could find an E train actually going to queens instead of being re-routed to Washington Heights.

Still came to work two hours late. Funny thing was, I left my house early, lol

Anyone went to the food fair in Steinway st today? There was a Japan festival there as well and the lines for food were crazy long. The food looked so good too 😭

you have to make it so the link doesn't expire, theres a box at the bottom left when you make an invite link, just check that off first

Ha yeah I didn't do it because wasn't sure how e-mails worked and wanted it to be private. Will do when next post the link.

Yeah, but it was overcrowded and overpriced. $10 a ticket for a styrofoam cup of ramen? No thanks

Been pet sitting in Red Hook for a few days. I'm not sure I've seen a place in Brooklyn that goes from REAL rich to REAL poor within a shorter distance.

There's only two real grocery stores in the area from what I can tell. A real nice Fairway Market, and one of the most ghetto, poorly stocked C-Towns I've seen. This C-town makes the ones I went to in Washington Heights look like fucking Whole Foods.

Such stark gentrification. It's maddening and fascinating at the same time.

Been liking Chicago a lot. It's basically NY with alleyways and much cleaner. I wish I could stay a bit longer but I'm flying back out tomorrow evening.

except that Chicago is highly segregated and does not have anything to the diversity NYC has
Fair point but I would argue that Manhattan is segregated and parts of Brooklyn/The Bronx are also segregated. Let me have my moment and tourist out. I do want to at least see the border of the South Side tomorrow to see how it compares.

so penguin set up a discord channel, whenever OP has the chance add it somewhere there so its easier to see when new heads pop in here. I made a temp image until someone makes a better one too.

Best train

Yeah it was goddamn packed. All these fairs are usually overpriced but they looked pretty yummy. Apparently the band that played were doing songs from Naruto? lol

What kind of jobs are you looking for?

Are you willing to live with strangers?

Are you willing to work a menial restaurant/labor job until you find what you're looking for?

Once again I'm home. I don't miss the roaches/mice and I sure don't miss the grimy streets but it felt natural and mechanical coming back into the MTA. It's hard to explain what it is but I guess it's because coming back from Chicago to LGA felt less jarring than coming back from Boston. Finding my niece in the living room couch watching cartoons feels oddly comforting as did sketching a passed out guy on the A train. Not so much my mysteriously sore left back though.

That being said, I'll be making a strong push for the Discord channel. The Discord channel link is in pinned in the OP. I'll bring myself up to speed on local news as it sounds like I've been in a vacuum.
