Official Armored Core 4 thread of MECHA GOODNESS

I picked it up and played it (JP version) and found the controls to be not incredibly difficult. Ya, there's a learning curve, but you use left and right stick.

Holy crap though, I can't say more good things about this game. Day one purchase for me, and online play FTW. Every time I play this game I'm impressed by the speed of it, the scope of it, by how you can customize your mech to no end, how every little detail can be tweaked (or fixed automatically if you don't feel like it), and that to me is a wet dream of awesomeness. I love mech games :D

Edit: The IGN vids are nice, but that guy has no clue how to play...

Did anyone else read IGN's hands-on preview? I found this statement odd

IGN said:
The only real difference between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, according to the producers, will be the presence of voice chat on the Xbox 360 version. PS3 owners, it appears, will be silenced.

Does anyone know why the PS3 version will not have voice chat or the reasoning behind it?

It's stuff like that, that makes me not to want to buy certain games from companies. That's such a Ubisoft thing to do to a playstation version.

I dont think FROM SOFTWARE needs to add voice chat support to the game for PS3 - I think SONY is going to be adding VoiceChat to every PSOne,PS2 and PS3 game with the march update.

Thats my bet anyway.

Could someone with a US PS3 console who imported this game, tell me does the multiplayer work? It's not region locked right?

will there be an online ranking system for the 360 version? to see who has the best mech and won most matches?
Leaderboards that look similar to the Arena in the past AC games would be awesome, especially if you could pick and challenge them like so.

Can't expect anything to go right for XBL. The demo still isn't up. Looking bad. :lol

Edit: They've posted an apology on the Armored Core page. Apparently there was a scheduling conflict, and it'll be up at midnight March 1st instead. I hope that means 4 and a half hours time, and not midnight at the END of March 1st. ^^;

wow, the more I read the more I think AC4 will be the exact opposite of everything I love about mech games:

bland environments
quick deaths
virtually no interaction with people/small scale villages
parts just for the sake of having them
no story
disappointig mutli

really sucks, I want a good mech game. Haven't played one in 4 years.

wouldn't have to even be a MW, I was wiling to give AC a shot (was excited about it) now it seems that I will probably hate it.

I wouldnt want this game any other way. Cant wait to try this one out in all its HD Glory. They can throw whatever difficulty lvl they want at me. Im going to make lunch out of those enemy mechs.

Until I became obsessed and spent 200+ hours playing Chromehounds, I was in the same boat as you. Though that game had its share of flaws, it was quite the mech combat fix. Knowing this game is made by the same people gives me hope. Still I'm torn about which version I should be getting since I have both a PS3 and 360.

And he wonders why no mods will change it.
So wait, a mod has to do that on a whim or something? I've been posting for a while and thought that it was some sort of a message count thing.

Visually, it's my understanding that both versions are identical. 360 version has LIVE play, achievments, voice-chat, and custom soundtracks.
Is there a difference between the online play with the two? I seem to remember there being only a 1 on 1 option on the Japanese version of the PS3 port. The other stuff really doesn't matter much to me. I just want the option to play online with friends.

As for the graphics being identical, I don't buy it. People were saying that about RR6 and RR7 so much that I got both games and tried it out for myself. The difference was significant enough to effect my enjoyment of the game. XBL didn't do anything for me either, in terms of a better online or offline gaming experience.

I guess I'll wait to read the reviews or something.

The only difference is voice chat. PS3 version had team play, but 1-on-1 was the unanimous choice online, mainly because of a lack of voice chat. Teamplay is 4 vs 4.

RR7 had an extra year of development. In that time they shifted the colours around on the existing courses and they made five brand new courses. The graphics were the same level, but the new colour palette really made RR7 look nicer... depending on your taste. Some gamers still prefer the subdued palette of RR6, though. They're different games - you can't really compare them in the same way as one multi-platform title.

The Japanese demo on Marketplace was supposed to go up last night and stil not up :-/

The 2ch guys are all over From Software about its delay :lol

It's actually midnight -today-, so yeah, long wait. :(

Go play Chromehounds and then say From Software is bad.... I predict people will be wanting to go back to Chromehounds once this drops and it isn't what they expect....

Otogi was one of the most underrated title last-gen. :( Otogi 2 was even better.

Man, if they aren't planning Otogi 3 anytime soon, all I ask from them is backwards comptibility on 360. Never finished Otogi 2, and it was an awesome game for what it was.

So how is online broken? isnt' it just dm and team dm, if so how is that broken?

I'm willing to sell off lost planet for this baby, I beat the first 2 games and been craving to play another for years.

yeah, the Otogi games were awsome, considering how amazing Otogi 2 looked on the 360 (forget the frame rate), they could do some great stuff on the 360

Otogi 2 is an Xbox game.

Unless you're talking about BC, but I've never tried it on a 360.

I have been a fan of AC for ten years. That is nearly half my life. I know From: Great IPs, less-than-stellar execution.
Make no mistake, however - I'm dying to play AC4! I am confident, though, that it would be carried better in Konami's hands.
