Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I know a lot of people aren't going to take the "Dragon Slayer" trophy literally, but I really hope there is a Space Dragon. Knowing Bungie, I think there are pretty good odds of there being a space dragon.

"That Dragon came from the moon!"

A nod to Destiny's early concept as a straight Fantasy game.

Hmmmm. I wonder if that's all the achievements or Bungie removed the ones related to completing the story that tread into spoiler territory.

Almost certain that they omitted story Achieves for that exact reason. Which is fine because most people will get those anyways.

I know this might sound insane, but I could see myself buying a CE edition even though I already purchased the digital version.
Not insane at all, you could take the game in to GameStop and trade it in for maximum credit or selling it off to a friend for near-full price.

Also, page 100 - w00t!

Honestly, I'd love a classic limited edition: steelbook, small artbook, and a second disc with BTS footage for $69.00 or $79.00. That's all I really want.

If there's a $150 edition I don't think I'll be able to afford it. At least, not initially. Will be moving to Los Angeles at the end of July and money's going to be tight for a while.

Yep, I don't really want action figures/models/sculptures either. My place is super minimalistic, so I don't need junk cluttering it up.

That kinda stuff never appealed to me, even the legendary cat helmet. I like the behind the scenes footage though.

I very much agree with the sentiments for a "classic" limited edition. I noticed these aren't as popular anymore when it comes to collector's editions. Which is a shame. Hope Bungie announces something similar to this as an option.

Also, the new Thanks for playing video has a pretty interesting discussion about Destiny at the beginning. Nothing new if you've been keeping up with Destiny but still an interesting watch. Also apparently the last "Thanks for playing" which I find a bit unfortunate.

edit: for those that care it's roughly a 20 minute segment

I'm still saving up for the edition that lets me go to Mars.

I've only ever bought 1 CE, but I feel like I would do it again if it was the right price. However, it is at odds with my desire to go 100% digital download now. On the PC, they sometimes come with a Steam or Origin key so it works out, but Console's haven't offered a digital copy with CE's that I know of.

Steelbook with alternate cover and an Artbook would be good enough for me. I don't need or want statues, helmets, capes, or any of that mess.

Same. Statues and non-book stuff that can take up a lot of space don't appeal to me at all. Of course, I am getting the digital version, so it would be nice to get a PSN avatar at least.

That's rad that Bungie is including clan related achievements. I love the lengths they're going to to encourage socializing / community building.

Well... Some of those achievements are going to be unobtainable for a little while - the raid ones especially after hearing how hard they are. But i believe DestinyGAF will get them down sooner or later.

Most likely to be the least achievable of the lot for the majority of people till a level cap increase.

Still really great news about the collectors edition. Will be heading down on Bungie Day to switch my pre-order because i think it will be actually limited.

You and me Cmdr, let's see if Aus/NZDestinyGAF can be the first subgroup to get it done :D

This is a game that doesn't let you communicate in any way with people outside your (usually) 3 player party, unless we count the universal language of dance. A few achievements won't make it remarkably social.
These communities will still have to be built and cultivated outside the game, which makes it sound closer to Nintendo's take on social features, than anything one would expect from most "shared world" games made in the last two decades.

Hey, we read the same forums, my fictional, question formulating friend! In fact, the Ghost dialog has already been updated for Beta. It will be updated again for launch on September 9th, as well.

Funny thing about Alpha builds…they’re not done. Please pardon our Moon dust!

Agreed. I was talking about it earlier in the thread, this is one of the little flaws of Destiny and this need to be corrected.

I loved the Reach limited edition that came wit halsey's journal. Might even be the best LE i've ever owned. I really hope something in the vain of that with a lore journal or something.

Damn I already pre-ordered the game on psn, no ce with additional content pls :(
Like I suggested to someone else earlier, if there is a CE just buy the CE and then trade the physical copy in on release date for max credit/cash (if the CE comes with a copy of the game in a standard game case...)

Seems like a silly thing to do. I'd rather just keep the physical game instead of making a CE incomplete.

I'd say it's silly, but I've done it with every last gen CE I have.
Each has a valid reason, though. Either they got remade, ported to the Vita, went free on PS+, or, in Skyrim PS3's case, just wasn't worth having.

Digital collectors edition would be great but I'm buying both a collectors and a digital version if not. Maybe a 360 copy as well. Ridiculous. Nobody tell my lass.

I"m hoping Bungie decides to do seasonal festivals/holidays.

Is Christmas still a thing in Destiny's universe? Will we see some Christmas trees or snowmen in the Tower? Jack 'o lantern helmets during Halloween? I always enjoyed that stuff in WoW. I hope they aren't taking themselves too seriously.

They did that stuff in Halo. Would like to see it in Destiny.

Never really liked those seasonal events in MMO's, christmas and halloween and all that stuff just feels completely out of place in those worlds to me.

Here you have this medieval fantasy setting and suddenly the place is riddled with christmass trees and lights and whatnot, do not like it at all.

So for one of the achievement it says "complete a raid" does this language suggest that there are multiple raids to complete. You just have to complete one. (Rather than saying complete the raid, or conquer the glass cave--or whatever it is called)

There's only one Raid in the game at launch, and that's the Vault of Glass. It's a safe bet that there'll be more later down the line though

I think it's just called that way because you will get the achievement no matter which raid you complete, but it doesn't mean per se that there is more than one raid at launch.

I personally do hope that there are multiple raids available at launch though, if not that would be a bit disappointing.

And if there really is only one raid at launch then i hope they add more real quick or else the game will suffer from the same problem that alot of MMO's suffer from.. which is the lack of end game content or rather the lack of challenging end game content.

Dude, this discussion has already happened like 4 pages back. The Vault of Glass raid is ridiculously hard, and a top guild who Bungie got in to test it played it for 16hrs and failed to finish it.

It'll be very challenging.

You must have never been in a hardcore raiding guild, even hard raids will be overcome, often within weeks.

And once the strategies are known even the more casual players will be able to finish the raid.(This is pretty much the case in WoW.)
Once it reaches this stage, people will continue to have fun with the raid for a while but it never takes long before a raid gets boring especially if there aren't any other raids to switch between.

how do you apply and is there still a civil war among DestinyGAF ?
Sign into Bungie.net, find the DestinyGAF group and apply for entry, then post here with your Bungie.net ID so the mods know who you are and can accept you into the group.

And no more "civil war", DestinyGafPS4 has folded and it's members incorporated into DestinyGAF.

I've never had the attention span to play MMOs for long lengths of time, the longest one I played was DC Universe Online and that was for about a year because I played it from launch until Mass Effect 3 released. I'm thinking that Destiny may be different though.

Most MMO's don't have difficulty settings on their raids like Destiny thought right? (honest question I've only played the bigger MMORPGs)

If Bungie wants to make raids/strikes even more challenging they can make a higher difficult level with better drops but with no revives/restarts.

Harder difficulties for raids have been a thing for quite some time now, WoW does it aswell.
And it does help the longevity a bit but in the end it's still the same raid.

This doesn't surprise me :p else you would probably understand where i am coming from.
Personally i have never been in that hardcore of a raiding guild but i have been in a few normal raiding guilds and have once made a raiding guild in WoW with a group of RL friends of mine and i know that once a Hardcore raiding guild manages to beat a Raid and finds out which strategies work best that it doesn't take long for others to follow.

One raid is not enough to keep people happy with the endgame, especially not for those that do not like to pvp.

Is that short for strategies or something?

I am looking forward to beta. I know I like the titan. In beta I am going to give hunter and warlock a go.
I went Hunter in the alpha and really loved it, but I'm not sure what I'm gonna roll in the beta. I'm gonna wait and see what skill trees will be available. I really want to try out a support class with team health regeneration skills, etc.
