Toyota was really strong yesterday, getting first, fourth and fifth in the afternoon practice session.

Couple more notes...Jordan will be supplied engines by Toyota next year, while Williams has signed with Cosworth.

Schumacher is obviously running light to be that far ahead of everyone but it is also pretty clear that for once the ferrari actually has some decent pace. Should be an interesting race especially with Kimi qualifying ahead of Alonso

Can anyone tell me if Ferrari have changed the sponsorship placement on the car... im sure something looks different but I can't figure out what.

Why do they keep coming back to this horrible track ? There's nowhere to overtake and the 'race' is always just one long procession from start to finish with positions only changing during the pitstops or because of mechanical failure.
It's even more boring than Monaco where you have at least the nice scenery and the sense of motoring history.

All other tracks in the calander have changed over the years, to not only make the racing safer, but add overtaking opportunities. For some reason, the Hungarian GP track has remained exactly the same for 20 years and I too wonder why they bother going there... it's the most pointless race of the season.

Typically I fell asleep during qualifying (it's on again at 2:30 am EST on Speed), but I think starting today new EU anti-smoking regulations go into effect where you're not allowed to show cigarette ads on TV in EU nations. Whatever the Ferrari cars had (I haven't seen 'em yet), that might've had something to do with it. Though there's all sorts of confusion regarding the regulations, which just shows how worthless the whole anti-smoking movement is.

Schumacher finally gets his first pole of the season...good for him. Car was probably running on fumes though. :lol Would be nice to see him break the record this year, and get a legit win under his belt as well. And Kimi was just sick...first car out on that dirt road, and manages to get on the second row ahead of Alonso. Gotta give that car credit as well...performance wise it's just incredible.

And yeah, this track fucking sucks...I can't believe they left the A1 in Austria, but keep returning to this nowhere-to-pass dust heap.

And once again Jenson Button's in the middle of a contract shit storm, allegedly even offering to pay Williams $3.5 million of his own coin to stay at BAR. :lol I never understood why he wanted to switch last year in the first place, so in some ways if he was forced to go, it'd be what he deserved. But I'd sooner see him stay at BAR then get wasted away at the mess that's currently making up Williams.

According to Bild (german magazine) , Rubnes is leaving Ferrari after this season (he will be driving with BAR next year) and Massa will take his seat.

Hmmmm, my prediction for the race...
Any mcLaren that manages to stay/get ahead of race-ruiner Trulli after the 1st lap will win. Kimi-Montoya, in that order if they both pull it off. Otherwise Schumi.

It'd be great if Schumacher laid the smackdown on these kids.


But...

Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn admitted that the team had opted for an “aggressive” fuel strategy, but insisted that was sensible given the importance of track position at the twisty Hungaroring.

So he's got 14-16 laps of fuel on board and the other front runners have 22-26 laps .

Another bitter sweet result for McLaren...they had a 1/2 in the bag, but this time Montoya was the one who felt the bite of fate. Fortunately Kimi's car stayed together the entire race, and cruised to victory. The battle between him and Michael for the first third of the race was fun to watch, as I think Michael was genuinely as quick as Kimi and even stayed out a few more laps. But the Bridgestones wore down a lot sooner, and once Kimi stayed out an extra lap on the second pit stop to get around Michael, it was game over. Renaults didn't score any points (Fisi was 9th, Alonso 11th which was partially due to a nose change after the first lap) which was surprising...figured those cars would clean up on this circuit. And a great run for Ralf, finishing third.

Ferrari confirm Barrichello exit

Ferrari have confirmed that Rubens Barrichello will leave the team at the end of the Formula One season.

Barrichello's place as number two driver to Michael Schumacher will be taken by fellow Brazilian Felipe Massa, the 24-year-old currently with Sauber.

Reports suggest Barrichello, who won nine Grands Prix in five years with Ferrari, has signed a deal with BAR.

They say Rubes is tipped to replace Sato, which makes sense...that guy hasn't done shit in about a year now. A Button/Barichello pairing would be pretty nice, but there isn't a chance they're gonna keep him...Williams has his ass on lock, whether he likes it or not.

First, congrats to Kimi on his win. But congrats to Schuey on a pole!!!

Sad to see Rubens go. I thought he was the best teammate Michael ever had, and he's one of the top drivers on the grid. He'll spank Button next year IMO. But Benson should be leaving too. Taku's sucked this season, so fuck 'em. Massa ain't that good either IMO. I'm not very pleased to see him in that #2...soon to be #6. I really wanted to see Kimi or Fonso getting groomed in that season. But neither has a reason to leave their teams now with the success they're having. But wait until either Ferrari moved to Michelin, or the BStones get back in gear. That seat will be coveted once more. I can't wait for September when I can buy a tv and get tivo. It sucks right now, even if the season hasn't exactly gone our way. As boring as the races are, I need my F1 fix...bad. PEACE.

I think it's pretty obvious Ferrari has Kimi on their radar to replace Michael the moment he retires. I don't think Kimi would go to Ferrari for a billion dollars so long as Michael is there, cause it means he's gonna be the number two. But if he's hired to fill Michael's seat, going to a team that's had one of the greatest relability records of the modern era, you'd better believe he'll jump.

Kimi I believe has one year left on his current deal, and McLaren has begun negotiations with his agent(s). It's obviously in McLaren's best interests to lock his ass up long term. It's also in their best interests to give Kimi a car that's as reliable as it's quick. The latter issue has been plauging Kimi for a few years now, and at some point it's gotta get a little tired for him.
