I went to the midnight sale at EB Games for Halo 2 thinking that there wouldn't be too much people, you know, it's just a game. The only time shit like this happens is when the PS2 came out or what not, but to my surprise... there were more people there waiting in line for Halo 2 then there were for anything else the store has ever seen or done. Not only did it set records, but it destroyed all other attempts with a big fucking punch to the face! The line up for Halo 2 in my city was incredible. What even made it more convincing of the fact that the system wars are indeed over, is that the tills at EB Games didn't work and were fucked up at 12 am. So everyone was waiting in line till like 12:30, getting restless, they finally came out and told us that it's the tills and they might just do it manually. So they had to let only 2 people into the store at a time... withint a lineup of well over 300 people. It was crazy. I had to wait until 2:30 to get my game, and I just stood there and waiting patiently, knowing that I was actually a part of history today.......

November 9th!

The Day the console wars came to a close... Xbox has defeated everything around it. It is the new Playstation, it's fucking over... it's fucking over! Your sales quotes may not proove that yet.... YET... but belive me, because of today, it's over!

Halo 2 is the greatest game of all time, the biggest game of all time!

Xbox won, Microsoft defeated Sony!

Anyways, my company's been kind enough to hold a Halo 2 party after work. Rented out a private club, food, booze, the chance to win free copies of the game, the works. First time ever we've done this for another developer's title. Maybe I won't have to rent it after all. :D

And with that, it's time to go...

Ha ha ha... what do you mean Bishop, I felt it nessecary to share my love of Halo 2. Glad you all enjoyed it at least, nice to spice things up once in awhile!

played a quick game online with some gaffers...

i was pwning and it was my first game online...lol

or maybe its cause some gaffers suck. (cause I know I suck without mouse and keyboard)

SEMPE and Cloudystrife = getting PWNED by me....whoever they are.

back to single player tho.

peace

ugh nevermind about the lvl 5 and 8 hours comment.

When I got to what seemed like lvl 6, I checked the level select screen and I was at 12....

This kind of sucks, there is only 15 selectable levels right?

Oh I just got to the Brutes too, holy shit, talk about a fight.

I want to lie to you, so when you over-run the ending and all of a sudden see credits you'll be thinking "this can't be it" cause that happened to me. But it is.

Halo 2 is all about the live multi.

On some points yes. First, it feels like there aren't almost too many weapons. I constantly pass up sniper rifles, etc. because I already have a great weapon (or two :) ) In the first Halo you rarely got the nice weapons.. they were just there to help you get through difficult area's.

I'm still early on, but the first level blew (no big deal.. training, etc.) Once you land on Earth it really opens up.. the more open environments are just so much better. I'm not sure who complained about this (maybe Kasavin from GS?) but it can be difficult telling which direction you are supposed to head.

It would help if Marines showed on my radar, but they don't seem to.

Now some pluses

+ Variety ( at least early on a lot of different events)
The tank on the bridge was just really satisfying :). The scarab is crazy cool and boarding it is very neat

+ Marine AI + 100% - What can ya say? The marines are just infinately more useful. It's really neat when you can get yourself driving a Ghost and the Marines runnin teh Hog.

+ A lot more dialogue and the Marines say some funny stuff at the right time

- Marine AI seems semi-scripted - Or dumb sometimes. Sometimes I can't get them to hop in the damn hog, or I'll go jump in a Ghost, and they will just dismount the hog and stand there. I can drive away and they will never move :\ You still can't really look at this as a complaint. It's still light years ahead of most other games I've played!

- Lock on Rockets. Nice addition, so far unless I'm doing something wrong it doesn't seem to work that well.

- Plasma Pistol. I don't like it now. It's not nearly as useful outside of the burst first.. which itself is still very useful, but outside of that the normal fire rate seems like crap. Maybe it's just tough to tell with Dual Wielding, but it seems like the Plasma Rifle is better to carry. In MP it may be worth it with the burst tho

This certainly isn't everything just a few items off the top of my head. As stated earlier I'm still pretty early on in the game, so my opinions on some things will probably change.

the only things i hate is

a) there is no assault rifle

b)
the flood are a pain in the ass to control (they're way harder than the original)

Can someone explain one thing for me. Why is it that in almost every scene when it cuts to Master Chief in 3rd person view, you see a 1 second graphic glitch or something where his suit looks really bland then all of a sudden get's all shiny up and looks betters. like the textures loaded too slowly or something... why would Bungie let something this huge slip? Well ok, it's not that big a deal sure, but it is annoying!

it's called predictive loading. it's how they are avoiding loading screens

oh...no wonder....

i kept wondering why there was never any loading screen like the first one....

so now i cant tell when a level starts..its a bit more seamless in that aspect.

Single player is no big deal. The bump-map texture pop in is beyond hideous and jarring.

Multiplayer, this game is everything I ever imagined it to be and more. My clan The Next Level is already kicking fat ass.

Just played a quick match on XBL, first Halo 2 LIVE experience for me.
It's incredible. It plays seamlessly. Lagless online code.

Yeah, 16 player matches all day long, very very very little problems. Even matches where players are lagged are still as playable as some of the best connections on other, lesser games (Battlefront, anyone?).

Just fantastic.

I've had 1 or 2 matches lag horribly, otherwise seemless. I think the lag happened for us when there was 4 people playing on our connection and we were hosting from New Zealand. Doubt that'll happen that much.

I've got a question for you Halo 2 people...

Is that thing that looks like Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors some kind of KING BROOD MONSTER THING or something?

It's the leader/brain/intelligence of the flood

Then two questions...

If the Halo is a weapon of intergalactic power used to destroy the Flood, why is the Flood inhabiting all the Halos and why is the superbrain mother Flood thingie LIVING on a Halo?

Replaced with Battle Rifle. I thought they look pretty similiar.

On another note: The strategy guide is great. 256 pages pact with facts, pictures of everything and of course strategy and maps for single and multiplayer.

I don;t know about a super brain flood being but the flood is an infestation and Halo was built to destory it. The infestation I believe came along like rats infested with the plague came to Europe. On ships.

As far as we are told, the flood are contained on the rings, apparently they can't be destroyed (or something) but they managed to contain them until the covenant show up and let them loose. pretty much I think that little 343 wanker doesn't have enough robots to beat them down. The forerunners set off the rings if they get loose to wipe out their food source, Okay this bit is a REALLY BIG SPOILER I SUPPOSE --

only one halo was ever set off by the forerunners who wiped themselves out with it. Oh and on the new halo, the flood is not contained, it's actually loose as that brain thing has the other guilty spark critter captive

man,
the flying bastard heretic and his flying bastard double
are nasty on heroic. eventually i got lucky, first with a sticky grenade, and then when i miraculously stumbled into cover. this is a frighteningly good game. as with the first, the higher difficulty levels force you to make much better use of your arsenal and your surroundings. sections of the game you'd hardly notice on normal become memorable setpieces. halo's often characterized as a dumb run and gun shooter by people who don't know any better. but on higher difficulties it becomes an engrossing test of on-the-fly problem solving. "well, that isn't working; what if i tried this." if you're dying, it isn't because your fingers aren't quick enough, it's because you're doing it wrong. it's smart and demanding as the best action games are.

The amount of time it takes to automatch a game is freaking insane. BOOOOOOOOO! How can this be?! Who allowed this nonsense?

battle rifle sucks. it's a pansy weapon.

I'm playing it on heroic and it's just so frustrating sometimes and just not fun, while other times it's fun.

Right now I'm stuck in
zanzibar because of 2 of those blue projectile shooting tanks that are impossible to destroy and a covenant ship comes from the sky and completely kicks my ass every time, while at the same time I have no idea where to go and it just doesn't look like there's many options. I've yet to play multiplayer but single player has been all that glaring. It's good, maybe even great, but not GOTY material for SP, imo

i'm finding the scoped weapons -- particularly the battle rifle -- deeply necessary on heroic. hardly used them at all on normal...preferred close-range weapons like the shotgun or various dual-wielded automatics. rushing into a crowd without first thinning it out is no longer a viable tactic.

It does suck, what's with the annoying burst? I searched for a way to turn that off but didnt find any. It comes in handy for some enemies, while completely useless for others.

I agree through the early levels at least. If it's a tough battle (on heroic) I use the B-Rifle to eliminate the grunts and then I charge the Elites with dual wielding.

Most of the time there aren't many elites 1-2 if there are more I hafta try to use nades or pick some off. This works for most parts of the beginning levels. The Battle Rifle seems really strong ( of course the Covie Beam Rifle is crazy powerful too :) but it runs out of ammo very quickly)

The marines are so retarded sometimes. I remember a checkpoint where I was the gunman on the Hog and that huge blue projectile those covenant tanks shoot was heading for us, but he ALWAYS hit this stupid peice of trash and the projectile kills us. This happened EVERYTIME. I had to desembark and let the idiot get blown up, which was a real bitch because I had to worry about 2 ghosts after that.

Just played multiplayer for about 5 hours+ and i would just like to say SMG + Pistol > * for close combat. :D

Well, you quoted me, and I agree a bit. They certainly are MUCH smarter than Halo 1..

and frankly thats miles ahead of most modern day FPS (even one's on top of the line PC's).. take CoD last year. A very fun game one play through.. the whole game was scripted and your fellow soldiers were absolute idiots set to do a routine. To be fair, what Bungie has done on the very limited Xbox hardware is pretty amazing.

I played a little bit today. So little, in fact, that I can only really comment on a few things:

- the enemy AI is great.
- i like how the environment is so destructable.
- odd that I actually wasn't as impressed by the graphics as I thought I would be. I was playing on an HDTV, too.

I know how hard it is to program good AI for FPSs and I see the effort put in on bungie's part.

Another thing that sort of bothers me is the whole attitude of the soldiers. I head out with a platoon of maybe 3-4 and they're all yelling "COME ON, BRING IT" and generally upbeat about the whole situation, even if 2 of them just got blown up and the 3rd guy is still screaming "LET'S KICK SOME ASS!"

Those are some brave soldiers.

I also dont like their americanized tones, I thought it was the United Government Forces, not the militia of Alabama. It gives out too much of a US Army feel.

From these two statements I can assume two things:

1) You obviously don't know any Marines. Though the enthusiasm of <a href="halo%202" onmouseover="window.status='Halo 2'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">Halo 2</a>'s Marines may be over the top( in a game about a "ring world" with talking dog-like aliens? Go figure) but their bad-assness in the face of danger is not.

2) You are hard of hearing. I heard Northeastern American, Southern American, Australian and New Zealand accents amongst the Marines so far in this game.
