Official Halo 2 Thread

Go into your clan, friends list and look for someone who you can join.

Haha, yup. This is exactly what I do when I want to join a game. I just join an existing game from the Clan menu. And then I procede to get beat down online!

Oh, and if one more of you create another damn game with just energy swords it'll be too soon! :lol

SMG and Needler...

Needler makes a good homing beacon on where to fire.

On a side note, anyone nothice just how freaking long it takes to get into an opimatch or quick match?

Just played the final level again and 343 GS definately says

After containing the flood, the forerunner activated the rings, kill themselves and all sentient life AS PLANNED.

hmm...

One thing I wish the story went into more detail on:

All the remarks towards the forerunners were very vague. Do one of the books go into more detail??

Not a big fan of the duel wielding - I love my grenades too much.

Same here.

I'm getting better though at chucking down my second weapon, tossing some grenades, and then picking it up back to dual wield with.

What I don't understand is why people are not having a problem with the way the game ends. All of the reviews were right. This isn't a cliffhanger; it's a brick wall of an ending.

Kill Bill Vol 1 is a cliffhanger. There is a crescendo in the story, and it brings a finale. Halo 2 was obviously supposed to be a longer game.

yes, cause its not about the gameplay these days, its about the Cumshot climax of the story.

they should have made a better story, if they would have did that, they could have just put no enemies in the game and let me just walk thru each stage just so i could progress the great story. cause who cares about....you know....the gameplay.

teh hamburglar, and i never said u said the game was crap, i was exagerrating what you were saying.

just give up, you should know by now that there are people out there who just look for "THE" excuse to not like it. it was the same way with part one. once the haters figure out what they can rally behind as a point to detur, they all amass behind it and scream it collectively at the top of their lungs. with halo it was "repetitive levels" despite only 2 of the lvel being "repetititive". but once they get gamers to accept something as a flaw, the haters use it to say "this is the reason i did not like the game"

with halo 2, it is now obvious the haters plan to rally behind "the ending sucks" point. this will be the catch all reason why halo 2 sucks.

its fucking pathetic actually. what makes it worse is they come back with "it's my opinion you can't touch it, i have a right" blah blah. but in reality, it is so transparent that its comical.

besides, since when did a fucking ENDING, all 2 minutes of a games experience, all a sudden become the main reason to like or love a fucking game? do we now drop gameplay, controls, fun factor, depth, adding functionality (xbox live), graphics, sound, music etc etc etc from the main criteria to a games greatness and turn to "the ending" as the main draw? how lame and shallow, and if someone honestly sits in here and tries to fucking lie to us and convince us the game is not great because they didn't enjoy the ending then they can take their fanboys asses back on out.

its times like these, seeing the worst of human kind's behaviors that just makes me sick to my stomach, literally. it's disgusting. when i start seeing this shit, i just take a couple months away from the forum to let these pukes get it all out of their system and the forums gets back to reason and the fuckwads get tired of arguing their retarded point on why halo 2 sucks (the ending - ya right) and defend themselves by citing "opinion".

i'm not one to argue about an opinion, but i can definately see through bullshit opinions that are contrived for a purpose. i was hoping we wouldn't see these asses, but i knew that it was just a matter of time before they could find "their reason" to hate it, then they would explode the forum with the hate vomit.

Speaking of the end, it looks like there is a mistranslation in the french version of the game. Can someone confirm
what's the last thing cortana says at the end of the game after the credits ?

I might have agreed with that, except for the fact that I'm somebody who thought the gameplay in the first Halo was 'meh', but love the sequel. Not everyone who dislikes something is 'teh hatarz'. Sure, there are people like that, but don't assume everyone who criticizes something is just doing it to 'hate on' a popular title for fanboyish reasons.

I can understand how people feel strongly about a game's ending. It's the payoff, the thing you've put in hours of time and effort to reach, and to fight hard only to be let down can be very disappointing.

That said, I liked the ending in Halo 2 (I'm a sucker for a good cliffhanger), so you won't hear me complaining. Just trying to keep things in perspective here. :)

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. They translated it
like it would only mean like shooting a weapon "tirez"
. Stupid translators.

Maybe poor choice of words. I meant mainly in terms of level design. I wanted to loadup my warthog and cruise around an open area and run over/shoot/maim Covenant and/or Flood.
Uh, how the hell would that be new?

Just finished the game! EXCELLENT!!! But was the only one who was like WTF no you guys didn't just do this to me at the end?
Yes, you are the only one. You are also the best person at reading threads on the entire internet.

Err, well trolling is a bad thing- but could you think for a moment someone actually didn't like the game's ending? People got pissed off at FFVII for its ending as well despite how much they may have enjoyed the game up until that point.

The difficulty is starting to really uptic towards the end of the game. I'm playing on Heroic and I just got to
Gravemind
and I'm fighting the
brutes
for the first time. Before this level, I was really crusing through the single player. On this last level, I've restarted on a few checkpoints 10-15 times. Still I'm progressing through it and the extra challenge is good.

I completed the campaign last night. Anyone knows what was OXM referring to when they said that the mp would be enhanced in some way after the campaign was completed?

You can unlock the
Arbiter
skin for multiplayer.

Oh, one more negative about the multiplayer. Bungie must have thought were gamers are retarded because they don't let us narrow down optimatch searches, it does game/map choices automatically. So very stupid, good thing that I play with my clan most of the time, so I can ask to or change these settings myself.

Given how long it took trying to get 16 people to make 4 equal teams of 4 people each, I don't blame them for thinking stat-whoring monkeys would be retarded about fighting over playing no radar, invisibility, with brute shots only on waterworks or something equally inane.

If you beat it on Heroic or Legendary, you unlock a mp map and skin.

WTF!?

The review mentioned on any difficulty (maybe I misread.) Will it work if I just beat the last level on Heroic. I am afraid of legendary. :p

My favorite, and most dangerous is the SMG and Pistol combo. But I also like to use two SMGs.

Two SMG's, really? I seem to easily lose control of those. Not good for long range either.

I'm on Level 13 now, I've decided to quit for the night but man oh man, it is AMAZING :D I was kind of worried about all these people bitching about the campaign, but I love it, it may be a continuation of the first and doesn't follow the story of "First Strike" but it's epic! I've got a couple more levels then I'm done, looking forward to this ending people keep talking about.

What I don't get is how people fault Halo 2 for not incorporating First Strike story elements, but don't fault Halo for failing incorporating The Fall of Reach story elements.

That's like faulting Lucas for not incorporating all of the EU stuff in Star Wars into his prequal trilogies.

The source material inspires background stories, not the other way around.

http://bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=1044114

Over the past few days, a number of players have been experiencing a few unexpected issues with Halo 2. The Bungie test team has been working to resolve and/or minimize these issues where possible. Here are the 3 most popular problems people are encountering along with the current status:

Halo 2 480p - HUD is clipped on either side of the screen
The test team is working on a potential fix for this problem and we hope to have more informaiton very soon. You can help us out by sharing your specs for your television in the post pinned in this forum.

Unusually long wait times while attemping to join a matchmade game
This is also is being worked on and a potential fix is going through additional testing.

"Dirty Disc" / "Failed to Load Map" errors
The core of this problem lies with bad or faulty DVD drives. In most cases, if you reset your box, there's a chance the map will load properly next time. While we can't create a fix that will alleviate what is ultimately a hardware related problem, we can hopefully make it so you won't have to reboot upon a map failure before you play another game. This issue is being investigated.

We wanted everyone to know that these issues have been heard and identified and we are working to find the best possible solutions as quickly as possible. As soon as we have additional information, I'll update this post.

We are also still evaluating our existing playlists and gametypes within each playlists based on activity so far and all the feedback we've been receiving. We will have some initial adjustments soon.

Apparently the ending isn't a popular problem </sarcasm>

True but, The Fall of Reach, if you think about it, makes sense in some ways as a prequel to the original, while Halo 2 just completely disregards most things from First Strike, the book may as well never have existed but you're right, you can't fault Bungie for that. The casual gamer probably hasn't read the Halo books, and they never will, so they just continued the story from Halo 1. Seems the best way to me.

I played the first level of the SP and I don't see myself getting much farther for a long long time. Playing with GAF peeps is just too much fun. It's literally about 30 seconds from time that I turn on my Xbox to when I'mplaying with people from GAF. SO MUCH FUN!

Question about unlockables:

What's Foundation a remake of?

Well its not a remake of anything as far as I know, but it does resemble the Marathon 2 multiplayer map Thunderdome... at least to me it does

It looks like the brute plasma rifle is a bit stronger, but it overheats faster.

So, am I wrong in thinking the forerunners were human? My guess is they were an ancient human race that destoryed themselves...

Yeah...

I think the ark is a take on Noah's ark. A few forerunners bailed out before Halo was used and went to Earth.

I believe they are ancestors to humans, since the reclaimer must be human to activate Halo's defense mechanism.

Halo 2 specific ending spoiler:

I actually believe the "Ark" they refer to (at the very end) in order to remotely activate the other Halos is located in Earth and is most likely an underground facility the Forerunners built in order to assure some part of them survived the 'cleansing' of the Halos. The "Ark" name would certainly make sense.

Man im having a fuckin blast with the single player. I really dont see how anyone could be disappointed with what Bungie has given us here.

I'd like to hereby retract all negative statements I have made about Halo 2 as a game. I'm playing through campaign by myself right now (first time through was in co-op) and I'm noticing more this time around. Plus for whatever reason, the game seems more fun. Can't explain it. The story still irks me (why'd they ignore the books?!) but I'm starting to warm up to that even.

That said, multiplayer on LIVE rocks my world. I just played with a bunch of friends from my Splinter Cell/Rainbow days and had the best time ever with a game. I racked up 25 kills in a row with the wraith tank in a 5 on 5 team deathmatch game. I got "Un-freakin'-believable!" from the announcer. What a riot! Anyway, I always thought the multiplayer would be fun, but I had no idea it would rock this much. We played ALL the modes. That's something I never did with Halo 1. We played Crazy King, CTF, Oddball, Ninjanaut, Team DM, I mean all of it. And it was all good. Real good.

So in closing, I take back all negative statements I've made about Halo 2 excluding my comments on the story and ending. I'd have to agree now that it is indeed a 10/10. I guess I just needed more sleep, and more time with the game by myself to fully realize how sweet it is. :D
