Official Metal Gear Solid 4 TGS Thread

Someone should inform these guys that downgrading the graphics to hit 1080p is ****ing retarded. I wonder if its Sony pushing for it.

We'll be sure to inform them that a guy who's not interested in the system or the game would like them to do certain things to the game. And the game isn't even running in 1080p.

Wow, the trailer was amazing! Love the young Snake cameo. I think you guys are analyzing too hard though...seems like a joke or whatever. It'll probably be a playable character in multiplayer

Trailer: sweetness. YOUNG SNAKE ZOMG

Pictures: unfogivably low low-res textures. wow... :|

1080p bitchz.

Dont fall for the young snake gag people.
Notice he is wearing the octocam mask, he turns into a statue then the camera pans up to his face after you hear the transformation but you never see him take off the mask...
My guess is the mask is always on and can appear transparent to make it look like he isn't wearing it.
Also notice at the very begining when the gears walk past him and he stands up, his face appears bruised and battered but changes to normal.

Did the trailer have low res textures like that though? I streamed it and am not waiting for it to buffer again, if so that is disappointing because those textures are horrible. Snake is the single most impressive character model I have ever seen though.

Tell me how does he smoke through the mask. :P

Official: AAAAAA games have low-res ground and wall textures.

TP and MGS4: fighting the "pretty ground" phenomenon one sale at a time.

But the question remains: why would he mask his face as a younger version of himself? It doesn't make sense unless he was doing it to actually fool someone who knew who he was.

The guards look so retarded, supposedly they have enhanced vision and sensory abilities but they cant see snake lying on the floor because he is vaguely the same colour and texture? Still looks awesome though and id take gameplay>realism any day.

For some reason, this makes sense to me. I retract my previous statement. Also, notice in this scene, before Young Snake appears, the hair sticking out underneath the mask is grey/white. I think this person might be on to something.

Perhaps he's really one of the only ones aware of his accelerated aging? Maybe it's a ruse so people won't know that his body is failing.

In motion, you don't even notice the low-rez textures...I'm sure that stuff, along with the framerate, will be cleaned up for the final release...which is over a year away. The potential here is unbelievable, though.

Ummmm... Because its KOJIMA! seriously, I'm guessing you didn't pick the "I Like MGS2" option at the start of Snake Eater.

Nah, I picked MGS1. But I did see the gag on the second playthrough. :lol

You're probably right that it's just a joke or part of a quick disguise, but I overanalyze MGS stuff like nobody's business.

WOW...just WOW
That image is all kinds of WOW

Also, Snake actually does have on the mask...notice how his hair is still visible

:lol :lol :lol

My guess is that's just the mask, and it's probably in the game so players that want to play as young snake can (kinda like the Raiden mask in 3). As for the cutscene, it might not even appear in the final game, like the joke cutscenes in past MGS trailers. Like featuring Snake talking about GTA, making the guard tell him the release date of MGS3, and Ravens shadow.

OHHH Crap
I just figured out what was "wrong" with these this.
It looks as if self shadowing is not put in yet.
And that the whole shadow system itself is still incomplete.
The models look like they have "mat_fullbright" set to 1.
They kind of stand out from the environment....
Cant wait to see the final version :D

If you pause the scene where the birds are shitting on the statue and snake has his hand over his eyes...you can see that he has grey hair in the back(unless that is his suit...but it doesn't look like it). He then stands up and you hear the mask turn on/off and he is young with brown hair.

My guess is Snake is really young and the old mask is just a scam...something you put on in the game. Or vice versa. Old Snake and Young Snake are the same person IMO...there isn't a new snake.

I really don't recall most (if not all) of these scenes in the trailer.
Oh man, I totally wet my pants.
This game is going to be so ****ing awesome. It's one reason why I'm going PS3 for my next-gen gaming needs. Wow. Just wow.

And a theory:
Could "old" Snake actually be the resurrected Big Boss that we play in MGS3? "Young" Snake would be the one we know and love from MGS and MGS2. Two different entities?

No. I'll bet anything my theory on the last page is right, its just a joke.

I don't care if I get flamed, but technically this game is disappointing. Nearly every other PS3 game shown today looks better than MGS4. WTF?

And sorry if this has been posted already, but I just noticed at the end of the video when he's hiding on the statue he is totally grabbing it's stone penis. :lol

And these graphics rule. It just looks so great for a Metal Gear Solid game. I think some decisions with how it looks were made for technical reasons but I'd bet most of it is due to art design.

And I think the only animation that stood out to me was the enemy quick run, that hunched over run they do where their feet run really quick but take short steps. That may be realistic, I don't know, but it looks silly IMO.
