Jeremy Accardo for Shea Hillenbrand and Vinny Chulk.

Apparently Accardo is pretty good...

Accardo is basically League with better breaking stuff. I think JP hates Chulk and when Chulk couldn't stop the bleeding against Texas in that game a couple days ago he was done. Hopefully Frasor regains his confidence at AAA than I am liking our bullpen.

Downs and Taubenheim - long men
Tallet - mop up
Frasor, League, Accardo - middle relief and hopefully 1 of them steps up and can be the 7th inning guy
Schoeneweis - lefty specialist
Speier - set up
Ryan - closer

Well that's quite a shock.

I'm looking for information on Accardo.....From what I've seen of him he hasn't looked good, but you never know.

edit: his K's per inning are great and his walks are low...I'm tired! I'm glad we're getting a new bullpen arm...a fresh guy could be just the thing we need to help in the 6th-8th innings.

He's allowed 2 HRs in 40 IP, but both have come in the last 15 days. Were the Giants scared? On the boards I've checked people seem pretty high on him.

He went through a mini slump for a few appearances. His ERA is inflated due to the other Giant relievers not being able to hold the fort after him. Much like Schoeneweis'.

He is going from the weakest division in baseball to the strongest so that could be a problem.

The Giants needed a first baseman bad, but I think it is an even deal. Of course I am assuming Shea goes into his usual 2nd half slump and Chulk continues to choke in key situations.

I see that we don't have to eat Hillenbrands salary. That is good maybe we will use the extra salary to acquire some other type of help.

Not that the A-Rod stuff needs any more fuel, but I found this interesting:

How can anybody say Alex Rodriguez is having a shitty season? Here's his stat line:

(avg/obp/slg)
.284/.388/.504

"OK," you say, "but he's not 'clutch.' He can't take the heat."

Runners On: .294/.410/.559
RISP: ..302/.444/.547
RISP, 2 outs: .311/.516/.511
Bases Loaded: .500/.538/1.100 (albeit in only 10 AB)

Career Numbers: .306/.385/.573 (again, a power dropoff but an increase in OBP)

person2 said:
I'd like to address some points. First of all, a .003 increase in OBP does not excuse a -.069 decrease in slugging. Are you retarded?

Second of all, look at the double situational splits:

March and April RISP - .226/.375/.419
May RISP - .438/.550/.875
June RISP - .192/.382/.192
July RISP - .368/.478/.842

What does this tell you? It seems to me that A-Rod looks for walks and takes too many pitches, leading to an abnormally high OBP compared to avg and less power. In May he had a MONSTER month, but then went right back to shits ville in June. Notice he slugged his average.

In July I thought he had turned around, and the numbers seem to show it is true. However I would like to note that despite the scorching July, Arod has 0 hits with a man on 3rd, 0 hits with a man on second, and 0 hits with 2nd and 3rd. Small sample size, but those were game situations where he failed. He is still hitting for less power than previous years, and is waaaay to inconsistent.

I do not want to trade A-rod. I love A-rod. But right now he does stink something awful. His power is down, his strikeouts are up, he is failing in RISP. The yankees don't need a-rod to scorch for a month, they need him to be consistent all year if they want to stay in this.

And for the season he is batting .252 with 2 outs. Near 300 with no outs and 1 out. Also he continues to have one of the worst first innings ever, .157/.350/.350.

Vs Red Sox, .222/.317/.472
Vs Royals .421/.577/.842

so the braves trade a single-a prospect and get bob wickman...

the reds trade austin kearns AND felipe lopez for gary majewski?

reds got owned.

Majewski is a stud

Damn right. Jays got their 2. Now we take ours. Wang stops the bleeding today, we win a slugfest with Ponson out there tomorrow.

Not quite sure about tonight's game but Lilly has been pitching pretty well the last 6 games with the Jays. It will be a low scoring night for sure but I'll give the edge to the Jays. On Sunday the Yankees will be facing Marcum who played great in his first start but was mediocre in previous games he was in. However they'll be starting Ponson.....who the Jays have owned when he was with Balitmore iirc...

In Wang We Trust. He's been unbelievable for a pretty long stretch now. The only hiccup I see is that the hard turf may allow some ground balls to actually get through. And that A-Rod may make even more errors. I *think* we do pretty well against Lilly and especially against left-handers in general.

Sunday's a slugfest. We win those. *fingers crossed*

i think you have to worry more about Jeter letting ground balls through than the turf :P

(the turf isn't very hard any more, it's very comparable to grass in terms of the speed - Halladay is as much a groundball pitcher as Wang, and hasn't had trouble at the Rogers Centre)

I don't worry about Jeter. Nobody does. Except the haters. And thx for the vote of confidence for Wang! :D

We need Cano back badly...

Any predictions for the big AL East clash this afternoon?

My prediction -- Kid Wonderful tightens up his D and commits just one error, in the 3rd inning when he shanks a routine throw to first into the stands. For bonus points: the batter is Overbay and it does not lead to an unearned run.

How sad is it that the BlueJays have owned the Yankees and RedSox this year, yet they're still sitting 2, and 5.5 games back from both of them respectively?

They've played like shit against the bottom feeders of the american league, and that's going to cost them in the end.

Wang = ground ball pitcher
Rogers Centre = turf
Yankees = shit defense

I like the Jays in this one. Lilly has been impressive this year, and not just against the Red Sox. Nt bad for a soft tossing lefty. Though I have to say, Wang has been pretty good. One would think his style of pitching wouldn't work with a defense as weak as the Yankees have in the infield.

bububu intangible range

Yeah, I'm not even bothered by the Blue Jays beating us right now because you guys are honestly doing a good job. I was upset by Mariano, but he seems shakey at best lately...but yesterday I was not. Jaret Wrong ****ing sucks and so does Shawn Chacon.

I'm only pissed at A-Rod because his struggles are mental. It's like having a million dollars and being afraid to move it from under your mattress because it could get stolen or something. Jeter...I really have never been a big Jeter fan and that error pissed me off to no end. He's got to be one of the most overrated defensive players in the game.

We take care of him it seems, though last time he pitched we were lucky I'll admit. Still, I lay the mantle of shit defense all on A-Rod and his 18 errors (how many this week now? 5?)

Derek Jeter is pretty weak defensively. His defense gets overrated because has a good bat. The reason why Jeter doesn't commit a ton of errors is because he has no range. You can't make errors on balls you don't get to. Mark Loretta is the same way.

All of us Sawx/Yanks fans should rejoice that we both only play the Jays 19 times apiece per season. Otherwise, we might be in some real trouble. :)

The Jays and the Yanks close out the season in a 3 game series at The Toilet. That could be huge.

Godamnit. They gave me the A's game due to the rain delay with the Mets game. Now they won't change over to the Mets. I already hated the A's before, this just sucks alot right now.

California and you're a Met fan? Transplanted?

I have him at 85 pitches thru 6 IP. He has reversed his philosophy and is throwing fastballs to finish people off, Houston is expecting junk.

58....58....who the hell is 58?

And why is his name so long?

*squints*

I need glasses. :(

Edit: Borkowski. Why did I think he was like #52?

Frankman,I grew sorta liking the Dodgers - mainly Steve Garvey was the shit when I was a kid. My whole family pretty much made me a Giants hater and to this day I can't stand that team. After Garvey left for SanDiego I gave up on the Dodgers, though I was more a fan of that player than the actual team. It was neat to see him take the Pads to the world series but it wasn't the same. I finally found my team in 1988 though-the Mets. Once again I was attracted to a team because of a special player -Darryl StrawBerry. I was disgusted with the Dodgers after they booted the Amazins out of the playoffs in 1988,it was crazy irony because I use to like them as a kid. Then years later seeing Straw leave for LA just pissed me off all the more. So yeah its odd,I live in Cali and am a transplant(sort of anyways) I do lean towards the Dodgers more than the Giants out here ,I hate the Giants alot really. But both teams I really don't care much for to be honest, other than the fact that this is where the Mets have their roots. But overall Mets all the way, orange and blue to the very end.

Does anyone know of any place that offers FREE streams of games? It's impossible to find a Braves away game televised here in CT.

Holy crap, 8 K's thru 7 IP, 107 pitches. Great comeback by him.

Oh yeah some more Anna Benson hate: (found this)

And as for Kris Benson, I wish him well. He's been a class act in his limited time here. But it's going to be hard and almost unfair to assess this deal from Baltimore's side because Benson is a pitcher that is going to be swallowed up by not only Oriole Park at Camden Yards, but the expectation of being the only pitcher the Orioles managed to get this offseason (what a drop off from Mark Prior, eh?) The good part is that the Orioles don't have to worry about Benson's propensity for physically fading in September, since the Orioles haven't played meaningful games in September since Robby Alomar was motivated. It will be hard for Benson to be known in Baltimore as the bone thrown to Miguel Tejada.

And speaking of bone, you know as well as I do that the only reason Benson made it to New York in the first place is because his wife wanted to be a star. Why do you think Anna raised such a ruckus about being traded to Baltimore in the first place? Think about it...and think about every husband of every spotlight-hungry woman you know. Does the word subserviant come to mind? Does he look and act like Kris Benson does? He does...doesn't he? (Brad Pitt is starting to head to that category if you ask me...but that's another story for another blog.) And now, Anna gets to whine her way all the way to Baltimore because her contract negotiating ability does not match her modeling portfolio and she didn't think enough to suggest a no-trade clause. Oh well.

If that's not Benson in the Santa outfit, who is it and WHY is his hand heading down south?

The MLB task force will be knocking down your door any moment for asking about free streams. Buying Extra Innings or MLB.tv are your only options.

Since when? I could have sworn there were plenty of streams a year or two ago.

Wooo Detroit lost. Great news, because this means once the White Sox lose again tonight I will be even more enraged!

Eleven days after appearing in the All-Star Game, Brewers right-hander Derrick Turnbow has been reassigned from the closer's role and will be replaced, at least temporarily, by Dan Kolb.
