Ugh. I'm really NOT looking forward to the next couple of days. We're 3-7 in the last 10, Yankees are 7-3. Obviously it had to happen this way. Yanks are hot, Sox suck - tied for lead in the East. WAKEFIELD, BARD, THE TIME IS NOW.

Edit: Just saw that Byung-Hyun Kim got a win for the Rockies today - 1 run and 9 K's. What the FUCK is going on in this world?

I feel like shit. Apart from watching the Johnny Damon standing ovation (which the fans SHOULD do), I don't know how much I'll be able to withstand.

Not that I like to, you know, comfort you guys, but you have a nice shot in this series.

Wang...you guys have traditionally hit him well. It depends on whether or not Francona puts in the AAA lineup.

The Boston Red Sox have finalized a trade to obtain catcher Doug Mirabelli from the San Diego Padres in exchange for catcher Josh Bard, minor-league pitcher Clay Meredith and cash, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting.

:lol :lol :lol

YES!!!

DOUGIE THE STUD IS BACK.

No more Spoony Bard for the Red Sox. Thank the baseball Gods.

This is serious bullshit. The yankees would NEVER get that kind of trade.

Josh Bard and "cla" meredith for mark loretta. And cash!!! Cause nobody has any of that!!!

According to Buster Olney, the Yankees tried to get involved to block the deal, as they wanted Mirabelli. The Blue Jays were also involved.

Doug Mirabelli and Tim Wakefield. MEN OF STYLE.

Didn't the Yankees get Chacon for practically nothing? And what about Soriano for A-Rod? :lol

We gave up two prospects and one of them just pitched like a complete game shut out or something for Colorado. And Chacon was 1-6 last year with a huge ERA when we got him. It wasn't a steal.

And A-Rod for Soriano plus MAJOR wads of cash isn't that bad.

You got one of the top second basemen in the league for Josh Bard. Okay.

Well, Loretta was coming off a down year where he battled injuries and played at a considerably lower level than he did in previous years. Who knows if Loretta will even be able to return to his 2004 self? I don't think you can call him one of the top second basemen in the league at this point.

Texas is paying a fuckton of A-Rod's contract, actually...so in effect, we get A-Rod for around 15M a year. Yeah, that's big...but as certain fans of a particular nautical baseball franchise can tell you, the 3M gap between A-Rod and say...Adrian Beltre @ 3B is actually not so bad considering what you're getting. :lol

As for Chacon, that trade was so under the radar, it was a steal. What player did we give up that pitched well for CO?

As for the Mirabelli acquisition, it doesn't matter.

NO ONE IS SAFE FROM GIAMBEAST

It's only a steal in retrospect. Chacon was 1-6. It wasn't like we traded for a marquee pitcher with two shitty prospects. I can only remember one-- Ramon Ramirez. In 9.2 innings, he's struck out 13 and walked 1 and has a 0 ERA. Chacon has been amazing for us, but when we got him, nobody was slapping hands and going, "WE ROBBED THEM!!!" We literally just needed SOMEONE to pitch.

And A-Rod gave the Rangers some financial flexibility.

The point was that the trade looks a little lopsided.

OH ITS GO TIME BITCHES

i'll quote joe torre "it's going to be nuts".

october baseball in may, doesnt get any better than that.

If we don't give Damon a standing ovation for like 10 solid minutes i might shut my tv off and go to bed.

I hate to comfort Yankee fans but with the way we've been playing, and swinging our bats especially, you guys could put me on that mound and probably take both games.

Johnny definitely deserves a standing ovation for giving it his all while playing for the Sox... but after that, BOO THE FUCK OUT OF HIM.

it'll either be a great moment (standing O during first AB, then boo's every AB after that), or it'll be horrific (boo's every AB). should be interesting.

The Boston media has been telling fans to give him a standing ovation for weeks now. Hopefully the folks in attendance read the paper.

Sawx fans did at least give Clemens a farewell standing ovation back in 2003 when they thought that was his last appearance ever.

My predictions for tonight's main event.

Damon's standing O last's his whole first at bat (and he tips his fuckin helmet), followed by 7 strong inning's where the Yanks continue to be baffled by the knuckleball. They score, i'll say, three runs. The Sox pound Wang all night :lol for five runs or so. Foulke comes in in the 8th and gets hit hard but scrapes by without giving up a run. The 9th inning we ignite the Papelbonfire and watch him dominate and retire the side. Somewhere in there Ortiz and Ramirez go back to back (solo homers of course).

I don't know if that's what i honestly feel will happen or just what i hope will happen.

So we have the best record in the majors. That's pretty neat.

first of all, that's an awesome image. tool isn't the only one with The Pot! and second of all, holy shit at the Sox this year. I didn't think they'd start out so good honestly, just because last season seemed almost magical for them (clutch hits, pitching etc. when they needed it most). and I thought the Thome trade was actually a bad deal, even though it gave them an extra power bat. but damn, they've just picked up right where they left off. I know the baseball season's long, but the way they're playing they can easily make the playoffs again and repeat. great team this year, I just wish WGN would play more sox games and less cubs! (though it's always fun to see them go down 10-0 in the second inning to some no-name pitcher while they've got zambrano on the mound). people are gonna continue to overlook them because they aren't in the AL East so they don't get the big attention, but come October, it's gonna be like last year I think.

The Red Sox fans in attendance are stupid.

And yeah, I really didn't know what to make of the Rowand for Thome trade at first since I loved Aaron so much. But after seeing how well Thome is hitting, I miss him a lot less.

I hate knuckleballers.

Does he even have a windup? he just freaking throws it.

Edit: Damn. Close.

Wily Mo sure does take interesting routes. :lol

And now "traitor traitor" chants

Oh, that's what they're saying. They are really loud....I can't believe how loud it is.

Mmm yes shift works well.

i think he will, he seems to get 1 bad inning in then settles it down. but at least aaron small is back juts in case.

And now Aaron Boone shoves him on his way to 3rd base. Fuck these teams.

....and then promptly makes a 2 run error :lol :lol
Fucking dumbass. Serves you right.
