I'm pretty sure Oswalt going on the DL ensures a mass suicide by the Astros fans. So we can cross them off of the list.

And as I post this an Astros fan shows up. And another! Okay, so maybe I was wrong.

It's only 2 starts. He's slated to make his next start on the 14th.

Does anyone else really care about the Yanks/Sox matchup outside of the respective markets? I'm not trying to stir shit up, I'm just curious to know.

What am I, chopped ma****ing liver? I just got back from cheering on my ATLANTA BRAVES, ma****as!!!

Had pimp ass seats four rows behind the dugout. Seats so good there's people to come take my order, and by God if I didn't order a beer an inning or thereabouts.

Wooo hooo!!! Our FIRST WIN OF JUNE!!!

Probably. Both teams have an enormous amount of "bandwagon fans."

Well, I cheer for whoever is playing against the Yanks, so yep.

Yes, Blue Jays fans. Seriously though, that's kind of a good question. I know it's a good rivalrly, but how much do fans outside of the AL east enjoy watching the matchup (regular season) I guess people do care about it, simply because they're two of the richest and most popular teams, so you're usually either for them or against them.

Sorry Triumph, my bad. Glad you enjoyed the game.

I swear, one of these days the schedulers are going to stop beating around the bush and just put the Red Sox and Yankees head to head for 162 games a year.

They're fun to watch. I love rivalries both in regular and inter league.

You're a good man, Triumph. I wish your team the best. :)

The national media's whoring of the Yanks/Sox rivalry has been thoroughly nauseating for quite awhile now.

I watch any amount of baseball I can(hell, I watched a good 15+ hours of NCAA softball this week), so yeah, I enjoy good rivalries more than a random Sunday Night Baseball match-up of say, Cleveland and Anaheim.

This may not be the most accurate example, but the constant Yankees/Sox matchups remind me of how NBC/ABC programmed the NHL. Every saturday it seemed like you were either watching Colorado/Detroit/Boston/Philly. My point is there are more than just those teams, just as there is more than the Sox/Yanks.

That being said, I'll root for whoever plays the Yanks. Boston, Tampa, Cleveland, it really doesn't matter.

Welp, all my Braves merchandise were spared the gasoline and lighter tonight.

They best part about it - Cox grew a brain and put Ken Ray in there to close out the ninth. Who would've thunk it? He had a 1-2-3 and actually had a strike out.

Back in first by June 21st.........

who am i kidding

I'll take the 25th. It's my birthday and hopefully a week before I leave town for good, would be a hell of a present for both events.

The only positive about Floyd being hurt is that he hasn't been producing much lately and now Nady can come back and we still have a spot for Milledge. Reyes being out really sucks, though.

Alex Rios is a God among men and the Blue Jay bullpen is full of scrubs, and 2 good relievers in Speier and Ryan. Burnett better hurry his ass up so Taubenheim can go to the bullpen.

Tommorrow Janssen will own the Orioles and avenge his 2 prior losses.

Actually, Floyd HAS been producing lately. He was on the way out of his massive slump. What a horrible night for the Mets for many reasons. And this was the second game in the last three days they just decided to give away with errors.

Go get 'em, Tommy!

Bring back Adams, I swear I will never yell at him again. After seeing how terrible Alfonzo and Figueroa are I will never ever complain about Adams again. He hasn't made an error in a while now down in triple A and he is hitting well. Plus with him back and Hill hitting well, we won't have anymore holes in this lineup.

Floyd has been hitting well (BTW, Floyd is out for tomorrow and hopefully will be back for the Arizona series). And Nady is WEEKS away from coming back. He has to do a rehab stint whenever he recovers. Beltran also hurt is ribs in the game... he said it hurts batting lefty (Perez pitches tomorrow so Betran can bat righty). This is what the Mets DON'T need now. With Valentin having a horrible game we may see Woody start tomorrow and Valentin at short is Reyes can't go.

Gagne and catcher Russell Martin became the first All-French-Canadian battery in the major leagues. Coincidentally, they both went to the same high school in Montreal, one of the few there that had a baseball program.

"It's huge. It's huge for the kids in Montreal and it's huge for baseball in Canada in general because right now we don't have a team in Montreal," Gagne said.

"So it's a special thing for me and Russell to go out be the first French-Canadian battery ever. I was looking forward to that."

WOOO! What a game, Dodger stadium was packed from beginning to end. We didn't even get drunk in the parking lot before the game started. Lots of people turned out to see the Dodgers beat Pedro Martinez! Good to see Gagne's 1st save of the season, stadium wents nuts when he came in. Dont like the fact that every day a different relief pitcher absolutely loses it on the mound loading the bases without recording an out. Nice to see NOMAH and rookie stud Matt Kemp go yard off Pedro. All i can do is hope for a decent 5-6 innings from Odalis Perez tommorow.

Preston Mattingly of Evansville Central High School, the son of former New York Yankees star Don Mattingly, was the 31st player taken Tuesday in the major league baseball draft.
The 6-3 shortstop was the first player from Indiana selected, going to the Los Angeles Dodgers as the first compensation pick between the first and second rounds.

Mattingly, who previously signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Tennessee, told the Evansville Courier & Press after his high draft selection Tuesday that he'll turn pro right away rather than go to college.

"This is just the first step," said Mattingly, who will turn 19 in August. "Now I've got to go out and prove myself and keep working hard to get better so I can work my way up to the major leagues."

Mattingly, who is hitting .475 and has 38 RBI this season, said the Dodgers called him during a break after the first round was completed.

"It's awesome," he said.

"They asked if I'd be comfortable not being a Yankee. I told them, 'Yeah, that would be all right.'"

Mattingly's older brother, Taylor Mattingly, was picked by the Yankees on the 42nd round in 2003. Preston Mattingly said he's not concerned about comparisons with his famous father, now the Yankees hitting coach.

"I'm kind of my own person," Preston said. "I'm not worried about my dad. It helps a little bit, but they're not going to throw a bunch of money at me because of my dad."

So says Torre. Something's going on, that's for sure. *shakes head* What a wonderfully odd Yankee season so far. I will say this: these 2 teams, right now, and despite the score last night, look as far apart as I can remember. Hopefully the standings will begin to reflect this.

You do realize that everyone outside of NYC wishes the Yankees would die in a hideously painful wild boar stampede, right?

I threw up a little bit in my mouth thinking about the prospect of these undeserving Yankees winning four of the next five World Series.

4 of 5?? I'd settle for one, preferably this year. Our lack of pitching depth, both starters and the bullpen, doesn't bode well in the long run *but* there is something to the way we are winning these games that makes me a believer. There is fight in this team. And passion. Those can go a long way. In the back of my mind I wonder though: what happens when all the injured come back?

What in the hell is Crisp doing batting #1, and Youkilis #8 (8!!!) with Varitek 6?

I have been bitching about this already in this thread. It's unbelievably stupid. Youkilis gets on base seemingly 50% of the time, and that's huge with the big bats hitting behind him. The leadoff man does not have to be the speed guy. Crisp's OBP is something like .317 right now, and that is not cutting it for the leadoff spot. Like I said, it does Youk no good hitting 8th. There's nobody to drive him in.

As for Varitek, he is absolutely killing us batting 6th. He looks completely lost at the plate, and I'm not so sure right now that this is just a slump. Once Francona stops being an idiot (unlikely), and sets the batting order to give our offense the best chance to win, we will be playing much better. Until then, we will continue to have even more ridiculous amounts of LOB.

And he just got released. The fact that MLB's drug testing policy doesn't include HGH is a joke.

Jason Giambi is on HGH.

I don't believe the NFL tests for HGH either.

Lidge in in the top of the 9th, Stros up 1-0 against the Cubs.

easy 1-2-3 inning. What a wasted performance by Sean Marshall. 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, and he gets the loss.

*folds hands and pets cat* Just a number of years now until Lidge becomes a Yankee.

Exxxxxcellent.

I really like Buster Olney's suggestion:

'What the Players Association and Major League Baseball could do is to draw blood samples and urine samples from players and store them indefinitely, and tell the players: 'Look, we don't have a test for HGH yet, but when we do, whether it's in six months or six years, we are going to test your blood and your urine, and you will be held accountable for what we find.'
